Oh well, I never use VLC (I'm a MPC-HC user), I only downloaded VLC to see if MPC-HC was buggy. But nope, both freezes or give problems in the same scenarios. I could try other media player but I guess the problem resides in the iso.
Nevertheless, it's good to know that's a usual problem with VLC.
I would try re-encoding the ISO using handbrake to either a mkv or mp4. Probably won't solve the problem, but I'm not sure what else you can do at this point.
That's awesome. How long did ImgBurn take to create the ISO? Did it run fairly smooth? I haven't used WINE before so I have no idea how well it works. What version of OSX are you using and is your Mac a quad core or dual core? I have a late 2009 iMac dual core, so I have my doubts that WINE would work well for me.

Cool, hope it works for me... Does anyone actually have a ROTJ burned disc they can check for the existence of a CERTIFICATE folder, and whether their disc plays on a PS3? If not, that's fine. Just curious what works for people.
Mine includes the certificate folder and plays on the PS3 without a hitch. It also works on a Panasonic blu-ray player. Inside the certificate folder is a folder named "BACKUP" with nothing in it. It probably doesn't matter, but my permissions for the certificate folder are read only. My disc is a Verbatim DVD+R DL.
Best of Luck, Brade. If it works, please let us know what you did. Just thought I'd mention this to you in case you're not aware, Harmy is working on Return of the Jedi Despecialized V 2.0 right now. Might want to save your discs for that instead. No word yet when it will be complete, but some of the "de-specialized" parts will be using a much better source (35mm film scans). Should be a significant improvement.

I did all the burns in the same day w/ the same type of disc. These: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GHWRIK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So I don't think there's a problem w/ the disc itself. But I guess the way I burned ROTJ doesn't quite match up w/ the way the first two movies are. Again, it would've been great if tehparadox had an ISO for episode 6 just like it had for episodes 4 and 5. Then I probably wouldn't have any issues. But with only a BDMV folder, it seems like I have to figure out filesystem types before I can get it working =/
It's unfortunate that there's not a Mac version of ImgBurn. At this point if I was you, I'd ask a friend or family member if you could use their Windows computer to convert the folders to an ISO. I wasted a lot of time & discs trying to create a playable AVCHD DL DVD on my Mac when I didn't have an ISO. Not worth it, IMO.

Yeah, I've already tried that a couple times--I've heard the PS3 is pretty picky on file format though, so it hasn't worked yet. I did find an app called "SimplyBurns" that might work--it gives 4 different options for file format to use for the burn:
ISO9660+Joliet and HFS+ (hybrid)
ISO9660+Joliet
HFS+ (Mac only)
DVD-ROM (UDF+ISO9660)Any ideas which I should choose? I would think the last one, but I'm not sure.
I'd try ISO9660+Joliet. The PS3 should have no problem with that, but I ultimately don't know. It's been a few years since I tried that on a Mac.
Edit: You would use ISO9660+Joliet for a "data disc" DVD. If you're burning the folders to a blu-ray or AVCHD DL DVD, I'm not sure. It's possible that none of those would work.

Thanks, but alas, I'm on a Mac. With the ISO's it was easy b/c I can automatically mount and burn a disc from those. With ROTJ, I found this app "Burn" which seemed to be the right thing, but I guess not. (And BTW, the movie plays fine on the Mac itself--I'm just having issues getting it on a playable disc for PS3.)
Anyone burned a straight BDMV on a Mac?
I've had too many issues burning DVD's on a mac, let alone a blu-ray. Unless it was a direct burn for an ISO, I had problems. I finally gave up on the Mac and just stick to my Windows 7 laptop for that kind of stuff.
The data disc idea for the PS3 will probably work as long as the file is encoded as a mp4 and has either AAC or AC3 audio tracks.

It was very easy for me to make a blu-ray, once I got the MKV. Use tsMuxer to make a BDMV folder, and ImgBurn to burn a single layer blu-ray. That's it. The second I was done burning, PowerDVD started playing it. My Oppo player recognizes it like any other blu-ray, and plays it without a hitch. It looks and sounds fantastic, even projected on a large screen.
Thanks for posting that. When V2.5 first came out, I tried to create a blu-ray ISO using tsMuxer and it didn't work after many tries so I gave up. Just downloaded the most recent version of tsMuxer and it worked great.
I saw Return of the Jedi in the theater when I was five. I remember loving it since it was my first Star Wars film. Later, I caught The Empire Strikes Back on HBO. My parents recorded ESB and ROTJ Off HBO and I watched those VHS tapes growing up. For some odd reason, I didn't see Star Wars ANH until much later. I think I was in junior high and watched it on some cable movie channel. The first official trilogy release that I owned is the faces VHS set. I went to all three SE's in the theater in '97.

You who prefer the 97 SE are in the extreme minority. There's no reason for Disney to release it because no one will buy it. Hell, they probably don't even know about it.
I am aware of that. It would be for the sake of completeness.
However making that kind of argument also goes against the release of theatrical versions. Yes there are more people who want the theatrical versions, but still not that many. Looking purely from a financial benefit, it would be more profitable for Disney to spend the money required for restoration into making some stand-alone film or series and get way more money out of it.
Also, aren't the negatives the '97 versions? This means that if anything, the '97 versions would be the easiest to release. Furthermore, unlike with the OOT, there's no variations within the '97 versions.
It'd be fantastic if Disney would scan the negative as is (maybe with some cleaning first) and then go about restoring the OUT. With that in mind, they can sell us both the OUT and '97 versions in a Star Wars trilogy mega set with new & old extras (Empire of Dreams in HD please) and make a ton of money.

I also wonder if we'll get the OPT (original prequel trilogy).
Are you referring to the original creepy Yoda puppet in Episode 1 and Natalie's nips in Episode 2? Not sure of any changes to Episode 3.
I think it's doubtful that we'd get anything different than what was included in the 2011 blu-rays. Maybe a 4K scan of Episode 1 for preservation purposes.

It would be ironic and somehow fitting if the originals were fully restored from the O-neg in glorious 4K and brought back into the spotlight, while the "superior" Special Editions were stuck at 2K resolution because of the limitations of the technology used at the time.
I'd love to the the SE's 20 year reign of terror end as it fades away into just a curious footnote in film history.
The only release labelled as Special Edition was the 1997. That release got pretty much the least care of all releases. The Special Edition is not stuck at 2K but rather in LD format.
It may not be technically accurate, but it seems like most folks refer to the '04 and '11 editions as the SE's.

Agreed. That sounds like sweet sweet justice for the OUT fans.
If that's the case, I'd be tempted to burn my complete saga set (save the OT bonus disc of course) and then do a happy dance around the fire as the prequels & awful SE's go up in smoke.
I suspect that the rumors are true, especially with this 4K restoration. It's too bad that it appears there won't be time for a theatrical re-release of the OUT before episode 7. That would be so much fun, leading into the new trilogy.
Also makes me wonder what will happen to the other SE's if this is true. Are they stuck in their current quality or would Disney go through the trouble of recreating it using their new scans? Not that I really care. I'd like to just have the OUT and '97 versions.
Watched the TESB 2.0 MKV this weekend and was blown away. Thanks Harmy for all of your hard work on this! Looks fantastic and I love the HD audio track of the 1980 mix. When I show my son Star Wars for the first time, the despecialized editions will be the ones that he sees.
