I quite liked the droid rights subplot. It’s a massive injustice in the galaxy that’s been strangely glossed over by our heroes, and to have a droid be an advocate for the cause is totally earned for me. Also, this is no protocol droid, so it probably doesn’t care what people think of it or if it’s grating. I found it refreshing that it wasn’t quiet or tactful.
But the whole thing in the movie was that this character was played for laughs. Like they’re making fun of the ‘social justice warriors’ that people talk about. Either that or they just wanted to see how far the people who think those people are infiltrating the deepest levels of Lucasfilm or whatever would go.
