I have made a full twitter thread talking about the difference between the disc 2 blu-ray (2 Entertain) and the new 4k release: https://x.com/HjRobins/status/1862583451062284758.
Super disappointed, especially A Matter of Loaf and Death which looks so horribly AI upscaled. But it has really made me want to do my own AI 4K upscale version which is mainly just to remove compression, and to upgrade it to HDR, because that’s the real kicker, these 4K blu-rays aren’t HDR. They’re just the old sources with filters on them, no hdr, and while larger in filesize actually look more compressed. Also they are all 24fps.
So do we know for a fact that A Grand Day Out is definitely 25 originally? It’s just it was made as a student so I could imagine it being 24. Also there’s a lot of flickering lights in the opening of it, especially in the fridge, would it be blasphemy to sort that out? I’m thinking of averaging the two identical frames.
And are there released 4:3 versions of A Close Shave out there?
