Thanks for the trust :-)
I finished marking the despecialized shots. It comes to about 280 shots.

We'll see about that, I hope so anyway :-)
Here's WP3 reel 6:
http://uloz.to/xBr9hR7/deed-wp3r6-mp4
I cut the credits off early so as to shorten the rendering time and reduce filesize but you'll get the idea of what they'll look like (I recreated them based on Mike's samples).
This is of course the reel that could benefit the most from a source better than the GOUT but I think it looks pretty damn good considering that the source is GOUT.
I'm still gonna try and make some of the shots look better though. Like the three shots when Wedge saves Luke.
I'll definitely want those German tracks, thanks Laserschwert :-)
@Jan: But what program should I use? X264 is a codec, so I assume that I'll need some software to run it, right?
There will be a range of mixes to choose from. All three original mixes plus probably the 1993 mix and more.
Thanks guys. I am a total avisynth analphabet but I really want to do it right, so if avisynth is the way to go, I'll need a lot of help with that.
Also, I added a comment saying v2.0 DESPECIALIZED to all the shots in doubleofive's comparisons that I fixed in v2.0. It comes to around 280 shots.
Really? I never expected them to fix anything.
Thank you guys for the kind words.
If everything goes well, I should have the last reel workprint up tomorrow.
Then I'll probably make another WP of the whole film to make sure everything is the way it's supposed to be and then I'll try to free up some disc space to be able to encode the whole film in lossless AVI, which I will then use for encoding the MKV, the AVCHD and an NTSC DVD5. I could use help with that - what do you guys think is the best way to encode these?
Maybe it's Boba Ffet when he was 23, while he was still one of the elite imperial stormtroopers. Then he escaped just before the Death Star blew up and because he would be considered dead by the Empire, he could take on a new identity and slightly change the spelling of his name and become a bounty hunter. ;-)
Now, I don't think this qualifies as a change (at least not because of the "star"), since the "star" only appears in the first frame of the shot and it's probably just a speck of dirt on the negative, so it's just basic cleanup.
"Large star, middle left lower third, got removed. (2004 Change)"
And 005, would you mind if I put a comment "V2.0 DESPECIALIZED" to all the changes I reverted for v2.0?
In all pre 2004 versions of this shot, the stormtrooper passing near the camera seems to have been affected by some composition error where something was scribbled over one of the composite elements. Check it out, there's clearly a sign saying something like B FFET 23 over his path:

005, since you included this shot:

You should probably include these two as well, as they were also shortened to accommodate the CGI shot between them:
Furthermore, the second shot seems to have been altered in 2004, where in the older versions, the stormtrooper passing near the camera seems to have been affected by some composition error where something was scribbled over one of the composite elements. Check it out, there's clearly a sign saying something like B FFET 23 over his path:

It's also present in Puggo Grande (as seen on the left) and the 97 SE but it was fixed in 2004.
So, looking at the new trash compactor scene, I still wasn't quite happy, because while I kinda fixed the black crush, the whites were still severely clipped and the over all image appeared too contrasty, so I gave it another overhaul:

Here are some screenshots to show what I mean. It's still not perfect and there are some aspects of the previous version (top pictures) that I actually like better but given the source and the tools at my disposal, it's unfortunately always gonna be a bit of a compromise:

Pretty effing confusing...
^This
I noticed that pink stuff in the WP and tried to fix it - it's still not perfect but it should be much better.
Yeah, don't copy the link the download button on uloz.to leads to, just copy the link I posted. If it doesn't load automatically, go to JDownloader's linkgrabber pannel and click "Add URLs" in the bottom left corner and insert the link into the popup window.
Thanks guys :-)
Here's a fresh version of the trash compactor scene:
http://uloz.to/x3gKcWM/trash-compactor-test-mp4
I used curves to uncrush the blacks and I think it looks better now.
It's actually caused by a combination of several factors. My main source is You Too's colour correction script encode of the BD, which brilliantly solves some of the BD's most gruesome colour issues such as the ever present magenta tone. Unfortunately in this particular scene, You Too's correction took it even further away from the way it looked on the technicolor print and when I tried squeezing more colour out of it, the black got crushed, so I tried using the original BD footage but my feeble attempts at getting rid of the magenta colouring resulted in the mess that is the first part of the scene in WP3R5, so I asked You Too for advice and he told me to use curves and I managed to fix it; I'll probably render and upload the compactor scene tomorrow.
Again, yes you may. OK, I'm just teasing :-) I posted a link on the previous page.
Yes you can, or in other words, it is well within your ability to get it. I hope that answers your question ;-)
Welcome to the forum!
Get used to uloz.to, it is one of the last filesharing services that still work well even for free (they didn't delete any of my older stuff I upped there and upload's pretty fast and free download speed is OK and they have fairly cheap pay for DL) so I'll probably be using it for sharing the final film.
It almost always goes at least 300kbps for me. Sometimes it goes 10mbps; when I'm at the school dorm downloading a whole season of some series at once using JDownloader.
OK, here it is :-)
