Days of Wine and Roses (1962) - Perhaps Hollywood’s best depiction of alcoholism, with great performances from Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick. It goes a bit far out there that it sometimes loses its effectiveness for me, particularly in the second act, but it’s very strong material. Especially that ending!

In what way? Should I watch it or should I absolutely not watch it?

I’m not sure. Do you like other films of the period like The Apartment? Lemmon was an alcoholic, playing an alcoholic, and the third act is pretty hard to swallow when you think back on the first. I leave it up to you to decide.

Here’s the trailer.

I’d go with Ghostbusters or Mask of the Phantasm.

I think I’ll go with the latter. Thanks. Although, I’m not sure which version to show them: the (correct) 1.33:1 or the 1.85:1 version that’s included so I don’t have to answer the “why are there black bars on the sides of the screen?” question to people who don’t understand aspect ratios and framing and stuff.

But the 1.85:1 version is the correct version! It was framed for theatrical release and I noticed a few more animation errors watching it the other way.

This is getting worse. Everyone is fucking ignoring me and won’t respond to any of my messages. I don’t get it and I am so isolated from everybody.

Where do you find these friends of yours?

I inherited them from other friends I’ve since lost contact with. I need new ones because all the ones I’ve got either don’t give a shit about me or live hundreds of miles away.
