I may be wrong, but changing the Weirding Module story line may be able to be done.

With a bit of sound and film editing, all reference to the weapons being related to the Bene Gesserit Voice can be altered. They can just become Sound Weapons of some type. They did this kind of trick with Highlander 2's Directors Cut. In a way, I am glad the film did not have laser blast type weapons. By 1984 so many films and T.V. shows had jumped on the Star Wars bandwagon, and had some type laser effect weapons. LYNCH came up with something new and different. All and all, I do agree that it just did not work having the Weirding Module weapons being part of the Bene Gesserit lore.

Originally coming in May (now on hold) is a dvd set of the theatrical release, the 'Alan Smithee' version, and extras of including a bunch additional deleted scenes.
Anamorphic, Dolby Digital.

If anything is begging a fan edit by jamming all 3 of the above together, yanking out all references to "Weirding Modules", and a few other touch ups (CG fix of missing blue eyes? Re-edited prologue?).

OK, so this will not be "Perfect", and due to the sources available, this re-edit will have to be (forgive me for saying this guys) Pan & Scan. Now a re-edit may improve the flow of the extended T.V. version some and I can restore the homoerotic heart plug scene (PURE LYNCH). There are some overly used (and misplaced) effects shots that beg to be removed from the T.V. version. I will fix the "blue eyes" missing in some shots. I was thinking of Re-Pan & Scanning some scenes so they make more sense.

As for the prolog, I have no idea what to do. The T.V. prolog is way to long, and the Irulan prolog is way to confusing for people who don't know the book. I may need to do a combo of the two. There is not much to work with, but hey...

David Lynch's big issue with the extended version was that it had to be re-cut (and with that softend) for telvision broadcast.

DVD is a much better format for him to work with I'm sure. This is just great and welcome news!

My Wish List for the new DUNE Re-Edit

1) Restore the Complete and original prolog delivered by the Reverend Mother Ramailo as found in the 7th Draft December 9th Shooting Script, and Get rid of Irulan's!

The scripted scene below was to open the film.

1A. INT. ROCK LEDGE - SIETCH TABR - NIGHT

BLACK

FADE IN to the dark eyes of the mysterious face of
the REVEREND MOTHER RAMALLO, who sits against smooth
black rock. Her eyes are deep blue-within-blue and
her skin is a haunting translucent white. Her voice
ECHOES as if in a great cavern.

REVEREND MOTHER RAMALLO
We are the secret of the Universe.

RESPONSE OF TWENTY THOUSAND VOICES
Bi-la kaifa.

REVEREND MOTHER RAMALLO
We are the secret of the Universe. We know
of spice...the spice called melange...the
greatest treasure in the Universe. It
exists on only one planet - ours Arrakis,
Dune. We know of spice and the Bene
Gesserit sisterhood's selective breeding

2) Fix the Lady Jessica / Mapes scene

Only part of the scripted scene is shown in the T.V. version, and it makes no sense how it was put together by the producers of that version.

92. INT. JESSICA'S CHAMBER - ARRAKEEN PALACE - DAY

Jessica HEARS this and looks up just as the Shadout
Mapes silently enters her room.

JESSICA
(staring at the blue-eyed woman --
waiting for possible danger.)
Yes?

SHADOUT MAPES
I am the Shadout Mapes, your housekeeper,
Noble Born. What are your orders.

JESSICA
You may refer to me as "my lady." I am not
noble born. I'm the bound concubine of
Duke Leto -- mother of the heir

MAPES
(strangely asked)

I know the Bhotani Jib and Chakobsa, all
the hunting languages.

MAPES
As the legend says.

JESSICA
(inner voice)
That's it! The Missionaria Protectiva has
been here planting protective legends
against a day of Bene Gesserit need. And
that day has come. I must play out this
sham.
(out loud)
I know the Dark things and the way of the
Great Mother. Miseces prejin.

Mapes takes a step backward to flee.

JESSICA (CONT'D)

prepared for violence with a weapon in
your bodice.

JESSICA

otherwise.
(inner voice)
Now we will see which way the decision

Slowly Mapes reaches into her dress and brings out a

JESSICA

It could only be one thing....

MAPES

JESSICA

Mapes SCREAMS with elation and grief.

mysteries of the Great Mother, would not

MAPES
My lady, when one has lived with prophecy
for so long, the moment of revelation is a
shock.

Mapes sheathes the blade... slowly

(inner voice)
There's more here... yes!

Mapes, you've sheathed that blade
unblooded.

With a GASP Mapes drops the knife into Jessica's
hands and opens her blouse.

MAPES
Take the water of my life!

Jessica withdraws the knife from the sheath and,
with the blade, scratches a line just above Mapes'
right breast.

MAPES (CONT'D)
You are ours.... You are the one.

Jessica's eyes stare ahead. She knows these words
ring with truth.

3) Extend the Paul vs. Jamis Fight Scene

The Jamis Fight Scenes are not in the December 9th Script, but you can tell by the way they play out in the T.V. version that they are most definitely not complete.

4) Restore the missing scene with Paul and Duncan Idaho with the Bulls Head (The Bull that killed Paul's Grandfather)

5) Restore the Full Ending!!!

FEDAYKIN #2
Usul no longer needs the weirding module.

Everyone stares in disbelief. Paul looks to the
Emperor.

PAUL
Now, I will tell you how it will be.
Irulan shall be my wife, opening the way
for an Atreides to take the throne.

EMPEROR
I sit on the throne!!

PAUL
You will sit on a throne on Selusa
Secundus, your prison planet. Either that

The Emperor is still. Paul moves to Chani.

Paul turns back to the others.

Jessica turns to Chani and whispers to her.

Alia enters with two monks. She signals and one of
them places a cloak over Paul's shoulders.

PAUL
The Fremen have the word of Muad'dib.
They will have their Holy War to cleanse
the Universe... they will have Arrakis...
Dune... their planet. There will be
flowing water here open to the sky and
rich green oases. For the spice there
will always be some desert. There will be
fierce winds and trials to toughen men.
We Fremen have a saying...
(he stares at the Reverend Mother)
"God created Arrakis to train the
faithful."
One cannot go against the word of God.

Everyone in the room stares at him soundlessly.

ALIA
And how can this be?

There are three powerful drum hits.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I will finish this project up for the experience if nothing else.

You guys are talking about the "Making Magic" CD-ROM working with XP and not the "Behind the magic" CD-ROM right?

I was able to get "Behind the Magic" Working with XP, but "Making Magic" is still no go. It says it needs DOS to run.

Hi,

Just wanted to fill you all in on a little project I have been working on. It was very frustrating for me that I have not been able to use my CD-ROM “Making Magic” on my Windows XP system. “Making Magic” was included as a bonus CD-ROM in one of the Lucasarts re-issue game bundles a few years ago, and does not work with newer operating systems.

What I have done is make a high quality VGA to S-Video capture of all the CD-ROM content, and I am now in the final stages of re-assembling it all using Adobe Premiere Pro 6.0, Adobe Encore-DVD and TMPGEnc encoder. The format of my “Re-Making Magic DVD" will almost exactly match the one on the original CD-ROM, and the video quality is very close to the original. The hard part of this project so far has been re-constructing the menus and the menu buttons. It has been slow going as I am also learning the Encore DVD software at the same time.

I know that most of the content on this title is in the realm of the Special Editions, but there is some out-take footage of the original Han & Jabba scene from Star Wars that cannot be found anyplace else. I also placed the Star Wars lost scenes from the “Behind the Magic” CD-ROM as a little Easter Egg off one of the menus. So with that content included, this title should fall into the Original Trilogy Preservation category.

Any Comments?

Hi,

I'm new here and wanted to jump in and add my name to this list of people who own the LFL Star Wars DVD Set (and Hate It).

So I Went to ebay one night and found it for under $20 used. (Looked like new when it got here).

Like a few other people here, I got the set for the Bonus Disc. Only thing that was on my mind was to canibilize that disc for the behind the scenes and out-take footage.

The only movie I looked at all the way through was "A New Hope", and it was a night of me and my friend making very rude comments to the screen. Also I took a quick look at the ESB sceen with Vadar speaking with the Emporer and was mortified. I will not even consider exposing myself to the final sceens in RotJ after reading so much about it around this forum.

It may be returning to Ebay soon...

In the mov file Deleted Magic Part 1 ( at http://www.starwarz.com/deletedmagic/ ) there is some behind the scenes footage of the attack on the Rebel Blockade Runner at the start of Episode IV I have never seen before. This out-take footage starts with the THX logo watermark and then cuts after a few seconds to the finished shots. Also you can here off camera direction overdubbed onto the finished film in some parts. My question is where did this Behind The Scenes footage with the THX logo come from, and what about that off camera production soundtrack?
