PSA for anyone interested in this cut of the film! It is finally getting a widescreen, 4K, official release, along with the new 4K Director’s Edition. There are several options to get the Director’s Edition (standalone, the new 6 movie box set, and the limited edition “The Complete Adventure” box set containing the three different cuts of the film). Please note that the ONLY way to get the SLV is to get the “Complete Adventure” box set, which it up for pre-order right now on Amazon. Release date is September 6th. Don’t sleep on this, because it is a limited edition.

I think the Ewoks are great. I loved them as a kid, and I still love them. Yeah, they’re cute, but they’re also dangerous. They were going to eat Han and Luke, and I’m pretty sure they ate a bunch of stormtroopers. I think the idea of these short, primitive creatures rising up to help overthrow the technologically superior Empire fits perfectly with a lot of the themes George was working with. The fact that they “seem so unrealistic as warriors” is kind of the whole point.

Edit: I’m glad they didn’t end up being wookiees, as was the original plan. It’s much more interesting if these small, non-threatening looking creatures turn the tide of battle against the Galactic Empire than it is for an army of basically sasquatches who we know use blasters and can dismember a human with relative ease.

Slaynmage, I just want to say thank you so much for your hard work on this project. This is the version of the film I grew up watching, and it’s great to finally have it available in widescreen and in hi-def. Not to mention the completed matte painting!
