Darth Plagueis: The Canon Edit - A novel fanedit (Released)
Time

As a last reminder, make sure to support authors by purchasing the original works. This edit now includes the following original books.

Darth Plagueis by James Luceno
Cloak of Deception by James Luceno
Shadow Hunter by Michael Reeves
The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks

Quick question, any plan to include the short stories Darth Maul: Saboteur ( it is a prequel to shadow hunter but ties in with cloak of deception) and End Game ( it is point of vue elements from Maul when he was sent to Naboo and ties in with the plagueis novel) both from James Luceno ?

1997 Special Edition Audio Mixes, GOUT-Synced (Released)

Member LardBladder pointed something out to me over PM that I wasn’t aware of. In ANH, when the fighters engage their S-foils into attack position, the SE and onward has a sound not present in the older mixes. However, it actually is present in the mono mix! Given this, I have reinstated it and reexported the ANH portion of this project. (I had originally mistook it for a SE change corresponding to the new visuals, but it was there in the mono mix with the original visual FX.)

I also fixed that loud pop when we meet Ben Kenobi.

It’s on the Google Drive, same as ever. (Only ANH is affected.) Thanks as usual to ChainsawAsh for the DTS encode.

First, thanks for doing this.

I wanted to use this audio with D+77 but this project is not GOUT sync anymore, it has 1 additional frame. Will it be very noticeable do you think ?

This looks very promising, i will be interested in a link when your v3 is finished ( semi authentic.)

The 3 things i don’t like with the 2020 version are the digital rock, the extra greedo line and the color grade so your project is exactly what i was looking for without knowing it could be a thing.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

I made a 1080p upscale in Topaz from the PAL video source. It’s nothing fancy, and there are definitely some upscaling artifacts, but it’s available by PM if anyone wants to check it out.

I would like to thank Octorox for this upscale, it looks great. Nice to have this option until Adywan’s new version is ready.

I’m wondering if there is a version of the Emperor scene with Adywan’s revisited image of the hologram and 2011 blu-ray dialogue?

I don’t think so.

You know, I don’t think it’s even necessary to have that extended bit of dialogue anymore, and I don’t know why it was kept in versions that came out after Revenge of the Sith. I am not sure what the intentions were to have Vader ask “How is that possible?”. In a 2015 canon comic that takes place between Episodes IV and V, Vader asks Boba to investigate more about the pilot who destroyed the Death Star. Boba comes back with the information that his name is “Skywalker.” Vader naturally got VERY angry after hearing it, because Palpatine lied to him about him killing Padmé in his anger on Mustafar, while she was still pregnant, and he had been going on for 20 years with that thought in mind.

I think it is a nice touch, Vador kinda trying to see what the Emperor knows on the subject with that question and he certainly never reported that he knows about Luke to Sidious so it is also a way to cover that he already has tried to get a hold of him.

Oof, just spotted something else to amend what I’d just said-

Queen Amidala (the figurehead) is the macguffin, Padmé (revealed in the third act as the true Queen) is a character with real agency. This way you don’t reveal that Padmé is Queen until the right moment.

Perhaps-

The GALACTIC REPUBLIC is failing. As
its Senate becomes more complacent,
QUEEN AMIDALA, elected ruler of the
Naboo system, stands as a vocal champion
against corruption.

With the Republic’s ability to protect
its worlds diminished, the greedy TRADE
FEDERATION have invaded her home planet,
in an attempt to force her compliance.

The Jedi Order, mystical wielders of
THE FORCE and defenders of the Republic,
have dispatched Jedi Knight QUI-GON JINN
and his apprentice to bring the Queen to
safety on the capital planet of Coruscant.

The key factions are the Galactic Republic (complacent, corrupt, unable to act), the Trade Federation (greedy, opportunistic), and the Jedi Order (protectors, mystical, act semi-independently of the Senate). The key characters are Queen Amidala (champion of democracy) and Qui-Gon (a Jedi Knight). The plot is escape from invasion.

Compare to the original crawl: The key factions are the Galactic Republic (in turmoil, bureaucratic), and the Trade Federation (objecting, greedy), and Jedi Knights (protectors, mediators, act on behalf of the Supreme Chancellor). The characters are the Supreme Chancellor (leader) and two Jedi Knights. The plot is taxation leading to blockade leading to negotiation.

With my suggestion you could perhaps do more to explain how getting the Queen to Coruscant might actually help (beyond just escape), but I think early dialogue captures some of that. It doesn’t explain what the force actually IS, nor does it hint at the dark power behind these events.

Amidala is only queen of Naboo, not of the system. The senator is for the whole system but it is a different role.

Thanks for this, I needed both points clarified too. Is it actually made explicit in the movie that Palpatine is from Naboo? It’s implied in the dialogue, but I don’t think it’s spelt out. Shame that the Amidala persona thing isn’t in the movie though.

He is the senator from the Chommel Sector, witch include Naboo and a number of other planets. He is from a noble family of Naboo. It is not explicit in the movie although his wardrobe make it pretty clear for the second point.

I personally think leaving this being ambiguous in the movie works in its favor, but it’s cool to know there is actually a point where they switch and I’m going to see if I can spot it next time I watch it.

That is one of the strongest aspect of the movie. Still it is not hard to call when you have watch the movie a lot. Sabe as the queen has two outfits. The other ones are Padmé.

Two things I’d never realised until reading Eddie’s plot summary:

  • Why does Sidious want to invade Naboo? Why the fixation on recapturing Padme?
  • When exactly do Padme and the decoy switch places? She introduces herself to everyone as “Padme” when she’s pretending to be a handmaiden; do people not know that’s Queen Amidala’s first name?

1- Because the original plan was to get her to sign the treaty ( Palp thought she was young so easy to scare) to legitimize the occupation and create sympathy for him in the Senate so he could use it to win the next election ( Valorum had less than a year left on his mandate.) He never expected that Amidala would find her way to Coruscant. He just adapted after that and he got what he wanted even quicker. The old EU cover that story pretty well ( Cloak of Deception )

2- Amidala is a persona. Every queen of Naboo get one. Nobody knows Padme Naberrie is the queen of Naboo apart from a few selected people. Padme is just one of the handmaiden for the casual personnel. Canon book Queen’s Peril cover that in details. The first switch with Sabe in TPM as the decoy is just before they get captured (black dress.)

I personally would like to see the inclusion or even mention of Dooku in The Phantom Menance to better connect Episode I and Episode II. I believe this would really help sell his history with Qui Gon Jinn and make a larger impact on Attack of the Clones when we see he has left the Jedi Order and is working in opposition of the Republic.

Perhaps digitally add him to the council scenes (does not need to talk) or even have him look on as an attendant at Qui Gon’s funeral. It latter could also be a subtle hint at him be Maul’s successor as apprentice to Palpatine and the camera could now linger on both Dooku and Palpatine during Yoda and Mace Windu’s discussion at the end about who was killed, master or apprentice.

I don’t mind the idea but that would clash with canon, Dooku left the order in 42BBY.

So I know I just released this edit, but I’m already thinking about the possibility of more changes. Quick question: Does anyone feel the second seeds of rebellion scene really adds anything? It’s really unclear whether the Jedi she’s talking about is Anakin or Obi-Wan, and I think the first and third scene would work just fine without the middle one. I’m just trying to find moments where I can speed up the flow of the edit. Any feedback?

I think that is the point we don’t know who she is talking about at that moment, i think it gives a little more credibility to Anakin line you are with him before he choke her out on Mustafar. Yes he is completely gone at that moment, but she was talking to Obi Wan behind his back still. ( and multiple times in the script, the Obi Wan came by this morning that anakin sense in the Force was actually filmed but never release as a deleted scene.)

Star Wars Episodes I & II Extended Edition (v2.0) Teaser Trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGFLVHhxsOY

Using newly upscaled deleted scenes for the PT (with help from forum user bryantmh), I have revised my existing 4K HDR (and 1080p) Extended Episode I and II edits to newer versions with several small tweaks and refinements.

The scene order of the cuts is identical to their previous releases, and the run time is very close (1 frame shorter in Episode I, 18 frames shorter in Episode II), but several quality of life improvements were made.

  1. New color timing in Episode I that handles the overly bright official HDR transfer and tweaks it to be more in line with what’s seen in the Episode III Supercut. All levels have been tweaked, but Tatooine has the most changes, being revised on a shot by shot basis for the best balance overall. Highlights will still pop and be vibrant, but overly bright desert scenes are much better balanced now. Episode I receives a much more subtle treatment, with most of the changes being in deleted scene lighting levels.

  2. Most of the DVD deleted scenes were replaced with the upgraded AI Upscales. The cropping is slightly different from these and I still have minor niggling issues with the artificial detail that’s produced in some shots, but I can’t deny the clear benefits in all of the Episode II scenes and some of the Episode I scenes. (I don’t think they are actually necessary in the Episode III edit, for example). AI upscales were already used in my previous v1.0 cuts (for all but the Waterfall Scene and some shots of the second Podrace Lap where only an inferior source was available for use), but I think most people will find the new ones to be a nice improvement.

  3. Like the v2.0 and 3.0 revisions for the Episodes III and IV cuts, each transition and audio bridge was manually reviewed and tweaked by a few frames where necessary. The changes will be subtle and unnoticeable to some, but they are there, and they make the final product feel just a tad more authentic.

The google drive releases for Eps I and II are already out now, and the torrents/other releases will show up in later days. Please replace and use the new versions wherever possible, as there is virtually no reason to keep the old ones over these.

I’ll be uploading new video versions of all the deleted scenes in both films over the weekend, replacing the older videos I had up so people can see the new updates for themselves.

Thank you for doing these updates. The new color corrections on Episode 1 are so good, the previous version was too bright for my liking. You really hit the right balance.

I have one comment about your Episode III cut, i agree the deleted scenes are fine currently but i would summit one exception if you ever do a update one day. The extended Palpatine/Anakin conversation about anakin becoming his representative is very grainy/blocky. I wonder if another source (the upscale source maybe) could help.

And which is the extra line from Wattothe during the pre-podrace grid sequence from the Theatrical Cut?

When Sebulba is presented to the crowd by the annoncer, there was a cut to Watoo yelling Sebulba in the theatrical cut. It was cut for the DVD release when the pre race was extended with other parts. It is not in any blu ray, 4K or disney + version.

Star Wars: The Last Skywalker Awakens - A sequel trilogy &quot;mega-edit&quot; (<em>RELEASED</em>)
Time

You wanted feedback so here it is.

Like every fan edit, we can debate the details here and here but overall your work show great respect to the source material, reinforcing the strength of the sequels while eliminating the rough edges. I certainly will recommend your edit for star wars fans who have a hard time enjoying the sequels but want to watch them anyway for whatever reason.

If i have to point one thing, i would move the some time later before Kylo go to Mustafar get the way finder. I understand what you went for but his face scar almost healed and his conversation with the First Order generals are two elements that make the time jump more logical in its original place IMO.

But it is not that important, i enjoy this a lot as a pretty big fan of the sequels ( even with their shortcomings.) Good job and thank you.
