I agree. I'm beginning to realize more and more that my stance is shifting to TPM being my favorite prequel. It has a lot of crap in it, too, and by crap I mean things that conflict with the real trilogy, especially the whole Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan thing. But like you said, looking at it by itself and ignoring its place in the saga, their relationship is handled pretty well. I don't really mind Jar-Jar. There were certainly worse things in the prequels than him. A lot of scenes were on location. It felt more real. In terms of the production, it was handled like a real movie. Things that needed to be on bluescreen were on bluescreen. The rest used locations and sets. Some of the sets had CG enhancements as needed. The lightsaber battle was really good and was slightly reminiscent of the ESB battle (which will always be my favorite). The battle droids are always annoying, and the Gungan/droid battle wasn't the best, but it is a prequel, so you have to take your lumps. But there's nothing really standout bad for it. It's not fine cinema, but it flows well enough as a standalone movie, I'm beginning to realize. The DVD podrace scenes are a disaster, but I don't count that as part of the actual movie since it was crap added in later (why, I couldn't tell you). I'm not by any means saying it's great, and there's a lot of stuff in there that could be better, but compared to a lot of stuff in ROTS, it shines.

Yeah, and that's a cool angle, but the old comics and TV cartoons and stuff didn't focus on that, they focussed on him being a big, strong, square jawed all American hero. I can't realate to that, can you?

Yeah, that's why I liked the Lois and Clark series so much. When Dean Cain explained their take on Superman, it actually reminded me of the opposite of Batman. With Batman, they always say that Batman is actually the real person, and the outward Bruce Wayne is the disguise. Dean said that Clark was the real guy, and that Superman was the disguise. I actually think the character said it best when he said, "Superman is what I can do. Clark is who I am." So it focuses more on the human side, which I like.

Three hundred dollars?! For sunglasses?! Surely you jest!

We sell Oakleys at my store. Some customers came in today who freaked out over the $200 price tag. I admitted I thought it was pretty stupid that they're so expensive, especially when we have sunglasses that are just as good three yards away that we sell for only $7.99!

Yeah. In the other thread, I said I'd love to get a Super Famicom. But I'd love to get a Famicom too. I love the look of the US NES, but the Famicom just looks so unique. And I'd love to get a disk system so I could possibly play the original version of the real Super Mario Bros. 2. I guess Wii could possibly do that, but I somehow doubt they'd release it in America. It got passed over for GBA's Classic NES series, which really pissed me off, although I can understand why. Every other port is different in some way. The All-Stars version is different for obvious reasons. The GBC version (the bonus on Super Mario Bros. Deluxe) just uses the same sprites from the original SMB.

I don't know. I was named after my father, but so I wouldn't be called the same name as my father, my mom gave me the nickname Lance when I was born, so it's essentially my true name in the fact that that's what I've always been called. Several people throughout my life have tried to incorporate parts of my real name, be it first, middle, or last to replace Lance, but none of them have ever really caught on.

I don't know. I carefully thought about the wording before I made this poll and even changed it around a few times before posting it. I made sure to clarify CG enhancements for a couple of reasons. If I had simply put real sets, it probably would have been winning more overwhelemingly than it is now simply because the prequels have trained us to avoid CG at all costs. But the fact is that CG is a widely-used tool nowadays. When used properly, it aids the movie a lot. And in fantasy films, especially Star Wars, it's almost unavoidable. So I was just being realistic.

Excellent point, CO. That's what I've been trying to say since it came out. In a lot of ways, I consider it to be the worst of the prequels. I enjoyed watching its predecessors immensely when they first came out in theatres (even though their values have diminished over time), but ROTS was the only one I actually groaned and laughed at on first viewing. Everyone complains about the turn scene, but compared with some of the other crap in that movie, it was one of the best scenes. The only thing that really interests me is Anakin's story. Despite its flaws, it contains some compelling moments. Everything else was just total crap. Let's review:

The first half hour could have been okay even though it dragged, but R2's craaaazy wild and super cool antics just made me want to vomit. For all of you who hate the Ewoks, R2 in this movie was ten times worse than any Ewok!

Any scene with Grievous automatically made my skin crawl. The whole subplot with Obi-Wan and Grievous was just so torturous and boring. That stupid lizard's howl gave me a headache. Grievous crawling like a bug to his stupid vehicle was just embarrassing. The only thing I liked was the end when Grievous died (because he was finally dead), and Obi-Wan was disgusted at using a blaster. Pointless and annoying minor character.

The Wookie battle. What Wookie battle? I swear, and I know I've said this before, but I left the theatre the first time and about half an hour later I realized there were supposed to be Wookies fighting in this movie... and I had absolutely no memory of it ever happening! When I came back the second time, I prepped myself upon going in to watch out for the Wookie battle. Halfway through it, I realized I hadn't been paying attention to the scene I had told myself to watch out for. To this day, I don't really recall what was going on. It was boring and pointless.

And then a series of scenes that would have been heartwrenching and powerful if not for one, idiotic word: Younglings. I let it slide when Yoda said it in AOTC. I figured it was just some pet name. But, no, this is the official name for Jedi children. When that realization hit me, I was appalled. And then I was amused. And every time the word was mentioned, I would laugh. And I don't think I'm supposed to laugh at a scene where the main characters are agonizing over the slaughter of children. I blame George for turning me into a cold-hearted bastard.

So what are we left with? Anakin's stuff. That's about half an hour to an hour's worth of footage left. Throw back in the Padme and Mon Mothma scenes, and you might have a decent movie.

But what's left contains some really good moments, better than any scenes in the rest of the prequels. But like someone else said, good scenes does not a good movie make. The good stuff is heavily weighed down by the crap, and it's impossible to think of it as a good film. Nothing in the other two prequels managed to match up to the level of crap in Sith.

Lance Rumowicz: At age 63, you will be trampled by a mob of rabid people at the opening of X-Men 17.

Damn, that's lame! Why the hell would I be at the opening of X-Men 17, anyway?!

EDIT USING MY REAL FIRST NAME: Edmund Rumowicz: At age 87, while playing Tekken 23, a burgler will break into your house. A fight will ensue and you will lose.

What?! I don't play Tekken either! At least I get an extra 24 years this way...

Wii package: what would you pay?
Time
Well, I still have both my NES and SNES in prime condition with nearly all the games I've ever really wanted to play. Besides, I don't plan on ever utilizing online gaming, so I wouldn't be able to download the old games anyway, so it's not really a draw for me. I'm very glad they're doing it (tired of ignorant children not knowing their roots), but I'm more interested in the new system.

Well, Bossk, it looks like both Wikipedia and I were wrong. According to my book High Score! The Illustrated History of Electronic Games, it was released in 1983!

The Chronology of How My love for Lucas has fallen
Time
Yeah, I hate how they seem to forget that characters with longevity would most likely age proportionately. Yoda looked like a young... er, man, in TPM when there really shouldn't have been that much change to him. And I hated in the Sith documentaries how George would give his stupid chuckle and say that Chewbacca was the junior league. He was 200 years old in the original movies! Nineteen years for a lifespan like that wouldn't make that much of a difference! It just shows how little thought George puts into his own characters.

I know I have a tendency, if I'm in a long conversation with someone who has a very distinct or different (from me) dialect to begin to emulate how they speak. But even though I've been in Mississippi for 12 years, I have yet to actually incorporate a Southernisms into my everyday speech. So I don't think you have too much to worry about. Just keep it in check. ^_~
