Maybe no cell phone coverage exists in New Hampshire, so they just let it slide?

Really? No cell phones there? Kinda odd...

I was just making a joke. I would assume they would, but that was the only explanation I could come up with.

EDIT: And, Number 20, that story was even more horrible than the Vincent one. Talk about heartless and stupid.

Why the PT fans love the PT so much, not as diehard as we think
Time
I'm going to do something I never thought I'd do, but I'm going to debate against CO on this one. Don't take it personally, man. You know I think you're awesome.

The amount of "creepiness" you take from a PT fan being able to relate to events in those movies is how specific you cause those events to be. I mean, you could do the same thing with the OT as well. I agree that everybody could relate to it because it contains those primal chords that resonate with all of us. Good vs. evil. The longing to do something important with your life. Moving forward after the loss of loved ones. But if you start getting specific, then it makes the OT fans seem a little bit "creepy" as well. I mean, how can anyone in the U.S. today possibly relate to their adoptive guardians being blown to cinders by a military regime looking for their robots? Are we really normal if we can relate to being sheltered by an old man in a cult-like religion who convinces us to sell off our worldly possessions and use the money to pay for us to go on a crusade to save the universe? And I doubt very many of us have had to choose between suicide and joining our homicidal, fascist father.

Making more general points, I can certainly understand how some people can relate to the plot points in the prequels. I've certainly never had to hide my lady love from the general eye because I'm a warrior whose code doesn't allow me to marry, and she's a political figure, but I have had the pain of an unrequitted love, and, I'm almost ashamed to admit this, but at 16 I was able to relate to Anakin when Padme was fighting off his advances. Maybe I'm just a whiny loser, but there it is.

So it all depends on how specifically you want to make these comparisons. I doubt any of the PT fans are looking to kill *teehee* Younglings to save their dying wives.

Well, like I said, it was relatively suitable (no pun intended) for the very few scenes it was used in. I can understand Hayden's excitement in wanting to wear the suit, and I'm sure I would have wanted to do the same thing. But if it had had any more exposure than it did, a larger actor would have been necessary, yes.

And, yes, CO's post is in total accord with mine. How was Sith marketed? As the final installment in Star Wars! Personal feelings aside of how well it did its job, its job was to tie up loose ends and provide closure. It wasn't marketed as "Part III of the six part Star Wars saga!" It was marketed as the end. The very end. That's how almost everyone who saw it in theatres saw it as, and that's simply the way it should be viewed, when viewed at all.

I must say I don't agree. What we have here is a conflict of interests. I, and it seems most of us here, believe that the movies shouldn't be watched in chronological order. The prequels exist solely to explain everything in the OT. While it doesn't always do a good job of that, it's impossible for the prequels to spoil anything in the OT because you would have seen the OT already. Now, this is consistent with the way that George wrote and directed the prequels. He uncovers all the secrets, reveals all the spoilers, and throws in about as many nods and ripoffs of the OT as humanly possible. The conflict of interest is that George claims we're supposed to watch them in chronological order. It makes no sense to me that he would say that, since every action he took in making them suggests otherwise. If he'd really wanted us to watch them this way (which I still wouldn't), he would have made them to flow that way. But the truth of the matter is, they're just not supposed to be viewed that way. He'd have to be an idiot not to see that.

P.S. And I'm still glad they called him Vader before the suit, something that wouldn't have been possible if the not-really-that-much-of-a-surprise-to-anyone was supposed to be maintained.

Yeah, at least only having him attached to the table and then walking about a couple of steps was believable. If he did actually have action to do, it would have become very apparent that this new suited Vader, Jr. was about half the carbs of the original suited Vader... and he doesn't even come with fries or a drink. Even with the little footage there is, I can't help but think that he still looks a lot like a little boy trying on his father's work clothes. It just looks pretty roomy.

Oh, ric, that is genius! Fake flirting with the annoying phone bitches! I've had more than my share of those too. Well, actually, I haven't had that much of a share, because, until recently, I could just say I wasn't an adult (the only time I ever bragged about kids not having the rights to order things over the phone), and they'd usually hang right up without saying anything, those rude assholes. But for a few years, I've sounded too old to get away with that anymore. The thing with me is that I'm usually too polite. I just have a hard time telling people to get off my back. I'm pretty passive-aggressive unless someone really hits that trigger (which my mom does all the time) that causes me to go berserk. I remember this lady with a very affected Asian accent called me one morning last summer. I don't even remember what she was offering. I told her I wasn't interested, but she just wouldn't let me go. I must have told her fifteen times I wasn't interested, but she acted like it didn't really matter, and it almost seemed like her boss was standing over her with a gun, and if she didn't make this sale, she'd be shot. That's the kind of fervor she had. And she seemed so nice and timid (aside from refusing to let me off the phone) that I just couldn't be mean to her, so I started getting roped into it. After about half an hour of me putting it off, she finally started to break down my spirit and my sanity. She kept on asking for my social security number, which I told her I didn't feel comfortable giving her. But she kept on pestering me for it, so I acted like I was about to give it to her, and then just quietly hung up. About fifteen seconds later, the phone rang again. I thought it was her again, and like some bad horror movie sequel, she just refused to leave me alone. So I ran into the bathroom, locked the door, and plugged my ears with my fingers while humming. I later found out it was my girlfriend, who made fun of me for being such a wuss in that situation. Since then, I've realized that politeness only gets you so far, and I've taken a firmer stance. But then again, I've never since encountered one as sneaky, dangerous, and pushy as her. I'm tempted to use your idea, ric, but I wouldn't use it if the person would just go away when I said I wasn't interested. I'd have to save it for someone pushy, like the one I just described.

I'm embarrassed to tell that story, because I can't believe what a pushover I was.

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time
Yeah, that's always puzzled me, too. With all the continuity errors Lucas has written in the modern era, why is he trying to cover up something that isn't continuity-threatening in any way?

EDIT: I just thought of my own answer. At the time that was re-edited back into the SEs, George probably hadn't decided whether or not Vader was supposed to be well-known as the same person as Anakin Skywalker... even though no one seems to know it at any point in the OT. But going back further, when that scene was written and filmed, Vader and Anakin probably weren't the same person at all. Trying to think like Lucas makes my head hurt.

I guess I'm the only person in the world who actually applauded (not literally, but in my mind) the one piece of consistency that this movie contained: that the suit doesn't make Vader. My biggest concern was that he'd still be going by the name Anakin after he turned to the dark side until Obi-Wan kicked his ass, and that, as fan service or because Lucas forgot his own back story (it generally happens), and have him christened as Darth Vader when he got the suit put on. That was the only thing I was pleased with. When Palpatine christened him with his new name, I was like, "Yes, they actually got something right." But apparently all anybody wants to see is suited Vader kicking ass and still call him Ani until he breathes like a scuba diver.
