Possible last chapter for Harry Potter Book 7 (POTENTIAL SPOILERS)
Time
Thinking this was speculation before I opened it, I was shocked to find actual pictures. I only read a few words, but even that was far too much for my taste. Sean, would you mind linking to the pictures instead of just having them displayed? Not having spoilers is important for a lot of people, and it's only for a few more days. Or at least put a prominent (POTENTIAL SPOILERS) tag in the title of the thread or something. In the meantime, I'm going to try and purge my brain of the few words I did manage to glance at while scrolling through.

Yeah, you just graduated from high school, didn't you? So I'd assume this girl would be about the same age (17 or 18), so this father would have to be really crazy if he's that overprotective. However, if she's young enough where a father might understandably still be wary of boys (say 11 or 12 at the most), then there's a problem.

EDIT: Well, you just barely beat me to the punch. At that age, two years can be considered something of a big difference. Still seems pretty old to have her father screening her calls, though. Despite rob's joke, though, that information is somewhat relevant to the topic.

Last week, I bought the issue of Secret Wars where Spider-Man first encounters the symbiote and gets his black costume. Of course, even though it's touted on the cover, like all good cliffhanger-media, the actual plot of the story has nothing to do with that, and the cover image is only fulfilled on the very last page. But it was still a very good issue and made me go back and try to find out what the Secret Wars were all about.

Paris Goes To Jail....LOL!!!!!!!!

Actually, it's funny you should mention that because my girlfriend and I were talking about The Simple Life a couple of days ago. We agreed that the concept of a rich girl stepping into normal life was a good idea in theory, but that the FX show 30 Days actually pulls off the walking in somebody else's shoes scenario with much more dignity and entertainment than The Simple Life, which is just two stupid girls acting retarded and played up for laughs... to the lowest common denominator.

I wish they'd just keep her in jail this time. If she somehow manages to weasel out again, it's going to become a media frenzy, and you won't be able to flip through any "news" channels without seeing all kinds of Paris Hilton footage, just like a few days ago. The best part about her being in jail is that there shouldn't be any "news" about her at all. Good Lord, how do they even consider this news? Girl goes to jail for violating probation. Big deal. Make some blurb about it and let her die.

Plus, I have to wonder. How does she have fans? What exactly does she do that attracts fans? Who likes her? I have yet to ever talk to anybody who does considers her nothing more than a joke.

But she did call an intelligent biped a 'walking carpet'. So the only reason she didn't have slaves was probably because she'd get arrested, and not through some respect for her fellow life-forms!!

Heh, yeah. Good point. While we're here, I'd like to point out that it, well, first of all, that was a pretty harsh thing to say about Chewie, especially since he hadn't done anything wrong. But after that, I've always found it really weird when they enthusiastically hug after fighting off the TIEs. I'm sure that Leia was just angry and didn't mean the walking carpet comment, but she seems so warm and friendly after that... well, come to think of it, that's really the only time in the entire trilogy you see her warm and friendly, isn't it? ^_~

Hoo, boy, this debate again. I believe this was the first debate I ever got onto on these boards.

First of all, aside from the fact that Luke was told that Leia was his sister, how would he possibly know that Leia was adopted if she didn't know? Secondly, if Luke put such emphasis on the word real, would that not have garnered some kind of response from Leia if she had no idea what he was talking about? If she was under the impression she had only one mother, wouldn't the need to specify real (as opposed to not real) confuse her just a little bit?

Did Leia know she was adopted? Is it possible she was talking about Mrs. Organa?

Luke: Do you remember your mother. Your real mother?

No, she wasn't talking about her adoptive mother.

Maybe Leah has slaves? Ever think of that? Kind of takes some of the sweetness out of this princess thing.

Doubt it. Padme refers to Republic anti-slavery laws back in Phantom Menace. Tatooine only had slavery because the Republic was unable to enforce it there. It seems rather unlikely that a senator and public figure at the core of the Empire would be able to own slaves... unless, of course, the Empire revoked those old slavery laws, but we don't really see any slavery in the original movies. There's the whole Wookiee thing, but whether or not that extends to humans as well, or if that even makes any difference... Anyway, I think it's safe to say that Leia didn't have slaves.

Ricarleite is not a racist, you are just an enormous faggot.

Heh, that's is an awesome picture. May be going a little bit too far, but I laughed out loud at seeing that.

But anyway, jeez louise! Ric a racist? Ric banned?! Man, I wish he was still posting here just so I could see what his response would be to that. He complained about bad animation in a film. Must hate the nationality of the people who made it. Hasn't posted since January? Must be because he was banned for aforementioned airtight accusations of racism. Glad to see your detective kit paid off there, Columbo.

And... I wish I had a picture of a dog in a wig to contribute to this conversation, but I don't.

IGN Star Wars movie poll.
Time
Good for ESB at least to still reign supreme, but only 8.5% for Star Wars? I can only hope that that's because everyone who voted for ESB held Star Wars as a very close second but couldn't vote for both. But ROTJ higher than Star Wars? That's just weird. I'm more surprised by that than I am by ROTS having second place, honestly, as much as I disagree with that standing.

So, um... no new DVD's announced this year?

If anyone watched the History Channel Documentary on the SW saga Monday Night, (Which was sponsored by Lucasfilm), this was a clear attempt to get everyone in line to look at the movies 1-6, not OOT, not SW 77, the days of 2 trilogies are over, Lucas wants EVERY SW fan to see it his way, and I heavily doubt we will see the OOT ever again.

Actually, I felt amazed that it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. Hell, the first half hour or so was just about Luke, and just about the original Star Wars. I expected the first half of the entire documentary to be about Anakin, the true tragic hero of Star Wars. Because, you know, he comes first in the true order of things. And after the original movie abruptly shifted to the next one, it still kept a pretty trilogy-oriented feel until then they shifted over to Anakin. But if you have to cover all six movies, at least they're putting the original trilogy before the prequel trilogy, like it should be.

And, yeah, I snickered and pointed out to my girlfriend all the BS about the mythological connections. But at the same time it was kinda cool, because I think about it as a really neat coincidence that it encompassed so many archetypes, even if the word on the street is that Lucas planned it all, which we all know is hilariously untrue.

As for the main topic, I've been hoping against a Saga 30th anniversary boxset for the past year, and it seems like my wish came true. I've bought these movies enough times, and if he ever does release a good version of the original trilogy to replace my GOUT (which is holding up well enough for me right now), I don't want to have to buy another set of the prequels in some bloated boxset to get it. For once, they made a good marketing move. You can still find all three DVD versions in every single store you go to.

First Look: The Clone Wars Celebration IV Poster With looks at the character design!
Time
I still don't quite get it, though. I mean... why? There's already been a Clone Wars series, so why are they doing the exact same thing again with a different style of animation? What's the deal? Is this going to continue where the previous series left off or is this going to completely retcon out the previous series? Or is it supposed to make any sense in the least?

Heath Ledger as The Joker (new pic)
Time
I'm really not sure what I think about this approach. Obviously, they're going for something totally different than anything that's ever been done with The Joker before, so I really can't say what I think. As I'm writing this, I'm suddenly reminded of Danny DeVito's The Penguin from Batman Returns. That character was waaaay different than any interpretation of the character before, but I still really like it. And it was also taken in a more grotesque, slightly quasi more realistic direction than the comic book character, so if they can pull a similar move with The Joker, I might be interested.

Will the original 'Star Wars' ever be properly presented on DVD?
Time
Well, I'm glad it got some press, but I agree with the earlier statement that it was something of a pointless article and just came out of nowhere. Plus, that part about Yoda being less "puppety"? That's, like, the one thing he hasn't changed. For right now, my GOUTs are satisfying my need for Star Wars, and I suspect they will as long as I have a standard defintion 4:3 TV. It's just the future that worries me because they do look pretty bad on my computer screen by comparison.

The Now-Released Spider-Man 3 Thread
Time
Hmm, I guess I was too busy thinking how weird it was that the Stacy family was there to notice Flash Thompson, which makes even less sense.

But now that I think about it, if Harry's cause of death was made publicly known (that he was the one assisting Spider-Man to save the city), then I guess it would make sense that the police chief and his family would be there to honor him.

The Now-Released Spider-Man 3 Thread
Time
Hmm, crazyrabbits, interesting review. Hope you don't mind if I question a few of your points:

-Emo Peter telling Mr. Ditkovich to "FIX THE DAMN DOOR!!!"

Like Chaltab, I thought that was the best of the "evil" Peter.

-the Saturday Night Fever-esque montage scene (because, really, everyone needs a montage)

That got a little cheesy, but I'm a big fan of montages. Like I said before, the "Raindrops" montage was my favorite part of the second movie.

-dodgy FX in most parts (not the Sandman forming sequence, because that was great)

I agree to a certain extent. Harry flying away from the giant Sandman looked horrible. But the Sandman forming sequence was great. His musical theme was great too, and I nearly teared up when he tried to pick up the locket and couldn't.

-unintentional laughs (How's the pie? SOOOO good!)

Was that supposed to be unintentional? I thought it was funny, and I thought it was supposed to be funny.

-useless supporting characters (Gwen Stacy? Pawn for Peter to get back at MJ. Captain Stacy? Glorified cameo. Flash Thompson? Are you kidding me?)

I agree with all of those... but Flash Thompson?! Where the hell was he?! I saw his name in the credits the second time I saw it and was left scratching my head. I thought maybe there was a shot of him in the opening credits montage. Where does he show up if not there?

--the butler conveniently neglecting to tell Harry something about his father until the right moment, and even that's stretching it (how does the butler know what the glider knife pattern looks like? Cleaning a dead man's wound????)

Yeah, I've already weighed in on this. That seemed rather contrived and silly.

But, yeah, in case you didn't bother to wade through all of that, where the hell was Flash Thompson in this movie?!
