Really? You talked about it so much and posted so many pre-release screenshots that I simply assumed you'd already long since gotten it and beaten it. But, yeah, it doesn't disappoint, so hurry up and get it!

Wow, I can't believe I just spent the past hour combing through three years of the Rankings thread. So many memories. My personal favorite has to be mine and YIYF's competition to reach Jedi Master status first, and we ended up getting it one right after the other (with a Shimraa post in between). Man, this thread isn't posted in nearly as much as it used to. 2007 was not a good year for the Rankings thread, which, as I just noticed, used to get dozens of posts a day.

Heh, as lame as it sounds, I was just checking on that myself. I know I've been threatening him for, like, a year, but now that it seems to be somewhat in my grasp, I know I'll feel bad when I finally do knock TheSessler off. I'm also a little bit sad to know that I only have one more rank change to undergo, and, after that, nothing. Then again, I'll have to again make as many posts as I've made in the past two and a half years, so it's really nothing to worry about. By 2010 I'll be a Jedi Spirit! ^_^

But it's so nice seeing how clean 5000 looks! But I gotta do this!

5,001! I'm on the Jedi Council... Still not in the Top Ten! How can I be on the Council and not be in the Top Ten?! It's outrageous! It's never happened before in the history of the forums! (You can check... it hasn't)

By the way, I've been waiting to use that line for years probably. So glad to finally be able to do so. But, yeah, I'm the first and only Jedi Council Member to not be in the Top Ten. Gotta work on that. ^_~

Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD?

Hmm, I'd never heard of those before so, thanks to you guys bringing it up, I did a little Wikipedia research. Interesting. Honestly, I wouldn't want to give up special features for higher bitrate. Static menus I could deal with, though. But the Superbit Deluxe seemed perfect with the two-disc sets. Oh, well. Not a big deal. Gone the way of the dodo.

Yeah, the camera's about the only thing in that game that's not perfect. It could be downright obnoxious sometimes, especially when it wouldn't allow you to move it, even into first person view. You'd never see the SM64 camera not let you go into first-person. It seems somewhat controlling in this game rather than letting you control it. But that's really my only gripe about that game, and it usually does a good job of being where it needs to be.

Yeah, I didn't figure that out until late. I would just always use long jumps. But even they can benefit by a spin in order to get some extra length or just a split second to realign yourself, which helped immensely in the Luigi's Purple Coins stage.

Another word of advice, especially if you're looking to complete everything, is to collect star bits like mad! You will need large amounts of them. And by large amounts I mean thousands.

And maybe it's just that I can't draw a straight line in my head, but when using those damned sling pods, I always had to pull it back slightly more to the left than what looked to me like the right trajectory. Maybe it's just me...

And now... back to Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels), my first download on the Virtual Console!

Wow, so when you say Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels) I take that to mean they released to virtual console the original Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 that was never released in North America other than as part of Super Mario All Stars as The Lost Levels. It has the old Famicom/NES graphics and not the 16bit SMAS graphics right? That is really cool. I wouldn't have imagined Luigi's jump to have been different back then, I thougt the only time his jump and traction were changed was in the North America version of Super Mario Bros. 2. Dave said they were different in Super Mario World too, out of all my years playing that game I really never noticed any difference between Mario and Luigi other than in their appearance. That is interesting.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. I put that in parentheses just so people wouldn't get confused. But it's sold on the Wii Shop (as SMB:TLL, although no graphical changes are in the game so it says Super Mario Bros. 2 on the title screen) for 600 Wii points. I'm not sure about this Super Mario World thing, though. I think maybe Dayv is thinking about the American SMB2 because they really don't have any differences in any game where Luigi is player 2. Except in the All-Stars release that contains Mario World, even the sprite is exactly the same.

Oh, and funny comic, sean.

Yeah, just like Super Mario Bros. 2 (or Lost Levels), Luigi jumps higher but has worse traction making him harder to control. It might just be me, but I think his throw is slightly weaker than Mario's.

But I just finished! 242 stars down! Zero to go! What a blast! I can't believe I played for seven hours today! Should be doing my homework instead... Damned intersession course.

So anybody still playing Galaxy? I'm coming down to the final stretch now. I've gotten 120 with Mario, and I've gotten 100 now with Luigi. Hope to finish it today or tomorrow. But, man, I guess I've just gotten better because I've flown through this with Luigi. Even Luigi's Purple Coins, which was giving me so much trouble when I played through the first time, I managed to beat in less than 20 minutes today.

Well, I managed to somehow beat Luigi's coins before I got to read this post, but I did it similarly. I never thought to use the spin move, though. The long jump was my best friend, although I can't tell you how many times I died doing a ground pound instead. When I finally managed to get 100 coins, I was, of course, on the opposite side of the world from the star and desperately tried to make my way back. I got right near Luigi's shoe and did a huge long jump, and it wasn't until I was in midair that I realized that I'd already stepped on all the platforms in that area. Luckily, there was a single, solitary platform I'd jumped over at the beginning and, somehow, through God's grace, I happened to land on that exact platform. From there, it was just one more long jump to victory. Phew. I hate the thought of having to do that again...

Yeah, and I also did the trash blowing up in Dreadnought. It was frustrating, yeah, and it took me a lot of tries and a lot of cries of anguish, but I didn't think it was that much harder than the one in Battlerock had been. At least they don't kill you when you lose. It was the purple coin challenge in that level that killed me. I remember one time I actually got there, but I missed the last four coins without knowing it. That nearly crushed me.

Well, I'm at 113 now, trying to catch those three damned space bunnies...

Well, to update, I now have 91 stars, and my speculations was sadly correct. I guess I should put up a spoiler alert. So I just did. There you go. There are 100-coin stars. Except they are purple coins. It's the last kind of Trickster Comet, called the Purple Comet, and I don't believe they appear until you've beaten the game, so, Zion, it looks like you will have to go ahead and beat it before you get all 120 stars. In the early galaxies, they were deceptively simple. The one in Good Egg Galaxy was so easy that I temporarily pegged Purple Comets my favorite kinds of stars. But they get much worse as the game goes on. I'm stuck on one in the Toy Thing Galaxy, called Luigi's Purple Coins where you have to traverse a huge SMB-era sprite of Luigi (although not being at all similar to Luigi's color scheme from that game) made entirely of three different types of ground: platforms that disappear when you step on, platforms that start rotating when you step on them, and the rest is lethal dark matter. Oh, and you have a 3:00 time limit. Grr. I hate it. I hope they don't get any harder than that because it's just tear your hair out frustrating. If anybody's gotten this far... any advice?

Heh, yeah, I did figure that out. But, damn, I figured I'd have to save him more often than I did. I think he only got me three stars before I came back to him in the garage, and he said he was done searching. It made me disappointed. Yeah, I've collected 75 stars myself so far, and I went ahead and beat Koopa and saw the ending just for the hell of it. I remember in M64 Koopa had a slightly different end speech based on whether or not you had all 120 stars, so I wanted to beat it before I got them all to see if the ending would be different when I got all 120 stars. I'm amazed how quickly this game went by, though.

Zion, since you have about 20 more stars than I do, do you know what the seventh star in some stages are? I know I haven't finished some of the bigger galaxies because I don't have a crown on them. And I've gotten the Trickster Comet and the Hidden Star, but apparently I'm still missing at least one star for a lot of these. Please don't tell me there are 100 coin stars like in M64... don't think 100 coins even exist in any of these levels...

EDIT: And, just for fun, does the whole "journey to the center of the universe" thing remind anybody of Sha Ka Re from Star Trek V?
