That'd be Leonard Nimoy, sir.

Is it really? As in, his narration of it at the end of Khan? I mean, the thought had crossed my mind, but I had dismissed it for some reason. I guess I'll have to go back and check it out and figure out why I decided it wasn't Nimoy.

Really, now? I'd always read that it was not supposed to be a reboot at all and fit into the continuity already established. If it was a reboot, I wouldn't mind this modified Enterprise at all. But since I was under the impression it was supposed to be compatible with the original, it does kinda bug me, although I do admit it looks cool.

The Vaultbreakers Collection - Disney Preservations

The first DVD is the OTV. My desire for preservation is limited in scope here - I'm just keeping the original DVD from vanishing into the ether. (Nothing else; I'll leave my discussion of it at that, unless someone finds something wrong with THAT version.) It is the second, remastered DVD which is censored.

There were? How do you know which one is which? I got the Platinum Edition the day it came out, so is that the original? Or do you mean that an earlier DVD release totally separate from the Platinum Edition is the original while all Platinum Editions are altered versions? And if so, what is altered in The Little Mermaid?

By the way, I rarely make my way over to the Preservation Forums, but this thread is making me wish I did. This sounds like a really great project.

I agree with MoveAlong that I don't think they should have changed in. In the first couple of pictures, it just looked like a higher-detailed model than had been used before, which was cool. But in the last couple of pictures, it looks like several details have been changed, and I just don't know if I'm on board with that. I mean, this is supposed to be THE NCC-1701, right, not a prototype or some other earlier ship, right?

Heath Ledger dead at 28
Time
Geez, what a bunch of nutjobs. Even considering for a second that they're actually right, and Heath Ledger is burning in hell right now, what good would picketing his funeral do?! What's the point? Whatever Heath's fate is, it's in God's hands, and no amount of hate from a bunch of crazy fundamentalists is going to sway anything. All this is going to do is cause pain to the family and friends who are already grieving. Yeah, nice job...

Yeah, I've actually seen entire walkthroughs for games on YouTube before, divided up into about 80 or 90 different videos. Of course, it's not really telling you what to do... you just see someone else do it. But that can be much more helpful sometimes than just reading about it. I can't tell you how many times I've read dozens of strategy guides in both print and online to do some super secret obscure sidequest and having no idea what they were talking about because it just wasn't described as well as it needed to be. Being able to see it really does help, although if you consider strategy guides to be cheating, this is probably on an even more advanced level of cheating.

Oh, and thanks for the pic, sean. I haven't played Pokemon since Yellow, so all these new ones escape me.

What else can I say but... who exactly is that?

And going back to paper guides vs. internet guides, YouTube blows them both out of the water. I came home for the weekend and was bored out of my mind, so I'd been playing Mario Kart 64 all weekend. Eventually, I'd done all I could do with that and switched over to a game I hadn't played in nearly a decade: Diddy Kong Racing. I stopped playing it because I could never beat Wizpig, and it just got too frustrating. I tried several times and was about to give up when I went to YouTube and found a video of a guy beating it. After that, it was easy, and I managed to finally beat that game!

Fall to the Dark Side?
Time
Gotta disagree with you there. From what I've observed, most people here (myself included) seem to think that the biggest problem with "the turn" is that it happened too suddenly, that there wasn't enough setup, incentive, etc. Whatever the case, it just happened too fast. So I have to give Lucas credit for not having Anakin follow Palpatine as soon as he revealed himself to be a Sith. At least there was some internal debate going on. Not nearly as much as most would like, but at least it was something.

Aw, that's sad, because it's well worth playing. I keep pretty much all my consoles close by for easy playing for just that reason. Oh, and by the way, Luigi's only appearance wasn't in the instruction manual. He had a wish at Star Hill: "I wish I could be a famous plumber like my brother Mario." And a very tiny Luigi sprite leads the parade at the end of the game. It took me years to figure it out. I always assumed it was Mario not thinking about the fact that he appears at the end. Plus, I'm color-blind, so, you know...

Yeah, it was great. It had a character profile for every major character you'd meet scattered through the walkthrough accompanied by the CG rendered picture. Sadly, Luigi does not narrate the guide like he does the instruction booklet. Yeah, I loved that instruction booklet so much that I tried to order a copy of it before I even got the game (my first introduction to the game was playing a friend's copy).

Heh, yeah, again, that would be me. I have no wireless Internet access. At my apartment at school, though, my Wii is only a few feet from the computer, so it's pretty easy to get there. The communal PS2 is a bit farther away, though. And at my parents' house, the computer is on the opposite side of the house. I also have the SF64 guide. It does give a lot of details on characters and plot that weren't in the game.

Oh, and I just thought of another purpose they served. Especially when I was younger, say in middle school or high school, I'd usually take a game guide with me to pass the time when the class got boring, or we had some free time. Since they are walkthroughs, it is something like reliving the game in narrative form, especially in games that are more story-based, again, like RPGs. I remember I used to take my Super Mario RPG strategy guide with me everywhere when I was in 5th grade. I even took it to water parks for some inane reason. I'm amazed it hasn't disintegrated.

Well, I'll try not to take that personally, C3PX, as I have a history of buying guides for most of my games, particularly RPGs. It's just nice to have it in an official book for some reason, be it for the artwork, or simply the ease of not having to constantly go to the computer. And since I am pretty anal about finding every little piece of nothing in a game, it is nice to have an official source.

That said, I haven't actually bought one since Final Fantasy XII over a year ago. I did Galaxy completely on my own, only checking the internet for a single star that I couldn't find.

But speaking of which, the only strategy guide that was completely useless was the one for Final Fantasy IX seven years ago. Pretty much half the book told you to go online to find the answers to all of your questions. It was supposed to be this amazing new high tech way of integrating paper strategy guides with online connectivity, but all it did was piss off everybody who'd bought the book only to find that it basically told you nothing except to go to the computer.

EDIT: I have to admit, though, that I had a similar experience in GameStop yesterday when I encountered a hardcover strategy guide for Super Mario Galaxy. I'd previously seen one (imitation leather-bound) for Phantom Hourglass. Now say what you will about strategy guides in general, but that is certainly a waste of money. Or for people who mistake gaming guides for actual literature.

Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD?
Time
Well, I consider myself a fence sitter, and it's not because I'm stubborn. I'm just not ready to dive into HD formats. I have no HDTV. My DVD collection is still going strong. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure I will eventually. I just really have no desire to at the moment, especially with two formats still out there. It's not likely things will change, but anything could happen.

That's that stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I know. That's why I pointed it out. But, yes, you're right. If it turns out he's innocent, he could be released. But you were the one who was championing for him to "rot in jail for the rest of his life." It's not that I don't agree with you on that point, either. He should either be killed or rot... it's just that the statement wasn't doing much for your argument.
