By the way, I just saw the trailer, and it looks really awesome. But who is doing the narrating of "Space, the final frontier"? It sounds very familiar to me, but I can't place it.

Is it really? As in, his narration of it at the end of Khan? I mean, the thought had crossed my mind, but I had dismissed it for some reason. I guess I'll have to go back and check it out and figure out why I decided it wasn't Nimoy.

The first DVD is the OTV. My desire for preservation is limited in scope here - I'm just keeping the original DVD from vanishing into the ether. (Nothing else; I'll leave my discussion of it at that, unless someone finds something wrong with THAT version.) It is the second, remastered DVD which is censored.

There were? How do you know which one is which? I got the Platinum Edition the day it came out, so is that the original? Or do you mean that an earlier DVD release totally separate from the Platinum Edition is the original while all Platinum Editions are altered versions? And if so, what is altered in The Little Mermaid?
By the way, I rarely make my way over to the Preservation Forums, but this thread is making me wish I did. This sounds like a really great project.

Oh, and thanks for the pic, sean. I haven't played Pokemon since Yellow, so all these new ones escape me.

And going back to paper guides vs. internet guides, YouTube blows them both out of the water. I came home for the weekend and was bored out of my mind, so I'd been playing Mario Kart 64 all weekend. Eventually, I'd done all I could do with that and switched over to a game I hadn't played in nearly a decade: Diddy Kong Racing. I stopped playing it because I could never beat Wizpig, and it just got too frustrating. I tried several times and was about to give up when I went to YouTube and found a video of a guy beating it. After that, it was easy, and I managed to finally beat that game!

Oh, and I just thought of another purpose they served. Especially when I was younger, say in middle school or high school, I'd usually take a game guide with me to pass the time when the class got boring, or we had some free time. Since they are walkthroughs, it is something like reliving the game in narrative form, especially in games that are more story-based, again, like RPGs. I remember I used to take my Super Mario RPG strategy guide with me everywhere when I was in 5th grade. I even took it to water parks for some inane reason. I'm amazed it hasn't disintegrated.

That said, I haven't actually bought one since Final Fantasy XII over a year ago. I did Galaxy completely on my own, only checking the internet for a single star that I couldn't find.
But speaking of which, the only strategy guide that was completely useless was the one for Final Fantasy IX seven years ago. Pretty much half the book told you to go online to find the answers to all of your questions. It was supposed to be this amazing new high tech way of integrating paper strategy guides with online connectivity, but all it did was piss off everybody who'd bought the book only to find that it basically told you nothing except to go to the computer.
EDIT: I have to admit, though, that I had a similar experience in GameStop yesterday when I encountered a hardcover strategy guide for Super Mario Galaxy. I'd previously seen one (imitation leather-bound) for Phantom Hourglass. Now say what you will about strategy guides in general, but that is certainly a waste of money. Or for people who mistake gaming guides for actual literature.

I know. That's why I pointed it out. But, yes, you're right. If it turns out he's innocent, he could be released. But you were the one who was championing for him to "rot in jail for the rest of his life." It's not that I don't agree with you on that point, either. He should either be killed or rot... it's just that the statement wasn't doing much for your argument.
