It hasn't been too long, so I assume you remember my previous memory card woes. So... after having resent the payment, the dispute against me was closed, and I addressed the issue of my broken memory card. The guy immediately sends me another one (even before I sent back the old one), and to my delight, it worked perfectly. So I've been playing FFIX again, albeit at not as fast a pace as previously. However, when I started playing it (on my roommate's PS2, which is the communal PS2), I did find it strange that the first memory card slot wouldn't read it. It didn't read it poorly, it just didn't recognize that anything was in there at all. I thought that was weird, but it worked perfectly fine in the second slot, so I didn't worry about it. For the past week or so I've been playing, and now I've just gotten to exactly where I was when the previous memory card refused to recall my data. I got home from school today, popped in the game, and forgot that the first memory card slot wasn't reading the data and put the memory card in there. When it did recognize that it was there, I noticed where I had accidentally placed it. That's cool, I thought, the first slot is reading it now. It pulled up my saved game, and I chose to load it. At that moment, I thought, maybe I should have switched it to the second port, just in case. But it was too late. I got the loading screen, and when it reached the end of the time bar, a message popped up that said, "DATA CORRUPTED" and my saved game suddenly disappeared! I quickly returned to the PS2 browser only to find the same message that the previous card had given me, telling me that the card was unformatted and asking if I'd like to. And of course, when I tried, it always failed. Anybody heard of this happening before?
And how many times am I going to have to play through the same 7-8 hours of this damned game?!!!!?!

As for the second video, I'm not entire sure. Having watched some of those cop chase videos on television, I have learned that cops get really pissed when people try to run away, so I don't blame him for getting touchy about that. That was just a stupid thing to do. And if they were going to run away, they should have done a better job of it (not that I condone running away). But they had skateboards, and he was on foot, and they couldn't get away? Eh, I should probably stop this train of thought. However, the latter part of the first video in that series was rather vague to me. The camera angles were such that I couldn't tell what was going on. But, for the moment, I can't get it to load again. But from that one viewing, it did seem like the camera operator got taken down a bit too harshly. But then again, I'm not entirely sure what his role was. Eh.

So I'd been playing Final Fantasy IX for the past couple of months. During the Christmas holidays, I'd gotten all the way to Disc 3 pretty quickly. Once Christmas came, and I got Galaxy among other games, it went by the wayside, but I made sure to pack it all up when I returned to school in January. Once my new games were done, I decided to break out FFIX again and finish it. Only I couldn't find my memory card. It baffled me to be sure because I had made the trip with it between home and school constantly over nearly four years with no problem whatsoever. But after turning my room upside down and even going home to check there, I finally had to conclude that my memory card was MIA permanently, which made me really sad because I'd had it for six years or so, and it had end of game files for nearly every Final Fantasy game.
So of course my problem lay in finding a replacement. Video game stores don't carry PlayStation memory cards anymore, not even used, so I had to go to eBay. I quickly won a brand-new Sony brand memory card, receiving it only a few days after winning the auction. That weekend, I celebrated by having the longest FFIX marathon I've ever had before. In one day, I nearly made it through the entire first disc. An odd thing happened, though. The first time I tried to save, it said my card was unformatted and asked me if I wanted to format it. Not having had a new memory card in over half a decade, this prompt was unfamiliar to me, but I said yes. After waiting a few seconds, it told me the formatting failed, but it let my save my game anyway. I took a break and came back later that night, only when I tried to retrieve my data, it claimed there was no FFIX data! I was about to have a fit, but after a few tries, it suddenly retrieved my data no problem, and I continued on.
The next day, however, the same thing happened, only I never could get my data to come back. I assumed the lack of formatting thing is the culprit and have tried repeatedly to get the damn thing formatted. I have tried three different PS2s, but it always fails. I've gotten in touch with the seller to try and get it replaced, but I am curious, especially if it happens again in the future: has anybody else had something like this happen? Is anybody more familiar with the PlayStation memory card system who can tell me what exactly this is all about and why it even needs to be formatted in the first place? I'd really appreciate it if somebody could give me some kind of answer or even speculation. It may help heal my wounds after having lost eight hours of saved game data.
Sorry that was so long (and my post at the PlayStation boards wasn't like this at all), but since you all know me here, I figured you could put up with my story. ^_^

The first dvd release of II was the original theatrical version and it was an anamorphic transfer.
etc.

Not sure how that would be a much better camp as far as this discussion goes. It's impossible to get the original theatrical versions of Star Treks I, II, and VI in an anamorphic DVD either.

Well, we'll have to accept the laerdisc ports for the next 20-30 years; maybe someday well get a remastered OOT, but probably not in the first half of this century. Unfortunately, they'll have to try to recreate what it was in 1977 from the GOUT. But until hell freezes over Im jumping over to the star trek crowd until then.

Heh, well thanks for cutting me some slack. Honestly, except for VI and the Next Gen. era movies, I have not seen anything but the 2-Disc collector edition of any of the movies available in any store I've gone to. But thanks for pointing out that an anamorphic version of the orignal Wrath of Khan did/does exist. However, I still don't seem to wrong about VI. In fact, based on the information I've read, the theatrical version of VI has never seen the light of day on home video.
EDIT: I concede you're also right about the deleted scenes and things being included with The Motion Picture. I have never seen them because I only rented that movie once and never had time to check out the bonus features, but I was aware of that. Still, I don't consider having the orignal elements scattered elsewhere to be the equivalent of having the original cut of the movie. Plus, and I'm just asking because I don't know, are versions of included scenes before director's cut effects enhancements were added on the DVD's deleted material as well?

This was back before the existence of a single prequel and before DVD had taken off enough for it to matter that the OOT was no longer available. All was well with SW fandom and the SW universe in those days, the biggest complaint from anybody was the then already ridiculous quantity of SW novels filling the bookstore shelves (little did we know...). In other words, it was a time of peace, and there was nothing to be ashamed about with the current state of things, other than the fact that SW fans were considered nerds back in those days (now a days I think "pre-teen" is the concept that comes to mind when the common person thinks of SW fans. Phew, thank God we shook the nerd stigma!). Anyway, reading this thread I have just realized that through out my entire home you cannot find that word displayed anywhere other than on three different books on my bookshelf, my original trilogy DVDs on my DVD rack, and last but not least, my NES cartrige or Star Wars sitting proudly on the shelf next to my other cartridges.
You'd think I'd still have at least a figurine or something displayed on my desk, a model ship, or some sort of reference somewhere in my home to remind me of my childhood obsession. That is how far it has fallen for me I guess. I went from the kid with Ewoks on his bed, three different sets of Star Wars sheets, posters and ship blueprints on my walls, and SW figures and models displayed on every possible surface, to the point of having all that stuff boxed up in storage where I have not seen it for years and would do little more than shrug if it were all burned up or stolen.
However, at the end of the day I can honestly say I have not had one single fight with my wife or any other girl over Star Wars. Though I am not quite so sure how she will feel when I insist that our first babies first toy be a plush Yoda... but if it comes to a fight over that, it will be a fight worth having!

Interesting, because I never had any specific room-related Star Wars memorabilia growing up, except for, of course, the movie as well as my giant tub of Star Wars figures. But just now, in my last year of college, I've added two Star Wars related things to the walls of my room. When my girlfriend and I were in Disney World back in May, we had a picture of us taken as Han Solo and Princess Leia (spliced into that classic photo of the three main characters in the Death Star), so I put that on my wall. And then, at a poster sale, I found the classic Empire Strikes Back Gone with the Wind poster that I love, so I bought that and put it on my wall.
Doh! What am I thinking about? For the past year and a half I've also had the life-sized slave Leia cardboard cutout in my room that my girlfriend bought me. She's about as big a nerd as I am, so I doubt we'll be going on Dr. Phil any time soon.
