Rank your favourite Pixar movies
Time

1.  The Incredibles

2.  Wall-E

3.  Ratatouille

4.  Finding Nemo

5.  Toy Story 2

It's been a long while since I've seen either of the Toy Story films, and I've only seen Toy Story 2 once, but I remember that I liked it quite a bit.  The Incredibles grabbed me the first time I saw it, and it's actually the only Pixar film I own on DVD.  I've never seen A Bug's Life, and I thought Cars was good, but it didn't really stand out to me.

New 'The Clone Wars' movie trailer
Time
Yeesh, how did I get so far behind the times? I had no idea this was coming to theatres! My girlfriend and I happened to catch the trailer at Kung-Fu Panda the other day, and I nearly choked on my popcorn. How ridiculous. How embarrassing! There's really nothing new for me to say that hasn't already been said in this thread over the past month and a half, except that I laughed my ass off at the text in the trailer that says, "See Star Wars Like You've Never Seen It Before!" I replied, "A CG animated cartoon? This is exactly like we've seen Star Wars for the past ten years except that they finally got rid of the last three or four actors!"

Universal Studios (literally) on fire!
Time
I actually almost laughed when I first saw the news report today and asked myself, "Gee, I wonder if Back to the Future's courthouse square got burned down again?" And, sure enough, I was right. It was burned down by a security guard back in 1990, and the 1885 courthouse square also burned to the ground a few years later. And now the rebuilt courthouse square burned down!

Okay, so I finally got to see the end of this movie, and I agree with what most people complained about it. Well, actually, the wedding didn't bother me. When Mutt was about to put on Indy's hat, I think I held my breath because I felt that could have pissed off a lot of the "hardcore" fans, especially those that have heard rumors of the torch passing to him for vague future films. So I thought they handled that well to have Indy himself quell that at the last second. But the concept of Indy and Marion getting married didn't bother me at all. What did bother me, like others have mentioned, was the ease in Indy getting his job back. Personally, I would have liked for it to have ended with Indy winding in Europe, where he was initially going to go when he got fired.

But I still don't see all the hate for this movie. I enjoyed it immensely and actually agree point-by-point with LordJedi's assessment of it. I also didn't know that the '80s sequels were so looked down upon here. I could understand Temple of Doom (even though I like it) for straying so far from the elements that made Raiders special, but what's the deal with Last Crusade? I sometimes consider it to be my favorite of the three.

What should be bannable offenses on Originaltrilogy forums?

Dayv's use of caps has never really bothered me, although I have to admit Moth3r's Forrest Gump comment made me laugh. But anyway, every other "intarweb" typist who uses caps exclusively seems to be some moron who can't spell or form a coherent sentence. Dayv never has that problem, which redeems what could be an annoying habit. Nearly all his posts are relatively well-written, so I hardly even notice the caps unless I'm just quickly scrolling through a thread, in which case his posts become easily identifiable, for better of for worse. ^_~

The things that really ruined it for me were things like the stupid hot rod race at the beginning... what was that? it served no purpose but to look cool. ok, that happens sometimes in adventure films, but usually the "looking cool" sequences at least involve key characters or have SOME sort of relation to the story at large. This HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING ELSE IN THE MOVIE. It was just there b/c Lucas likes hotrod racing.

I have to disagree with you on that since it was just the teaser for the opening credits and pretty much follows suit with the style done with the other Indy films. In Raiders, the opening credits was simply shots of shadowy people walking through the jungle, and it was only after the credits finished rolling that the story actually started. Same for Crusade: just shots of the desert and really wide shots of people on horseback. And then there's Temple of Doom that started out with a musical number from Anything Goes that had nothing to do with the plot. It was simply there because something had to go over the credits, and Spielberg always wanted to direct a big musical sequence.

My point is is that you're not supposed to expect a huge amount of story while the credits are rolling. Most movies do it this way. And this sequence is no more distracting than others. It sets up the time period and it also introduces the military men, who become agents of action as soon as the credits finish rolling and they enter the base.

But as for the rest of your arguments, I did agree with most of them. The seemingly random prevalence of the gophers especially left me scratching my head.

Hey guys. Been away for a while. But that's enough introduction.

My girlfriend and I went to see it last night, and what we saw was really good. I just have no idea how it ends because just as Cate Blanchet's character is vaporized, the movie screwed up. They restarted it two more times, but the picture always cut off and went to a pink screen at that exact same moment. So they sent us away and told us we could use our stubs to come back for free.

I'm trying to gauge public opinion while avoiding any spoilers about the last however many minutes were left in the film. As for me, I liked it. I, too, was a bit dubious over the whole Tarzan thing. How many George Lucas movies can have Tarzan moments in them anyway? Now we have Jedi, Sith, and Crystal Skull with Tarzan bits in them. I also agree that the music wasn't too terribly impressive. The whole college town chase sounded just like the storming of Naboo at the end of Phantom Menace. But those "big damn ants" creeped me the hell out, and it's great to see Indy back in action. I didn't even think the whole alien plotline was bad, and that was what worried me the most going into it.

Post Count and Rankings
Time
Well, my first post on the new software! Congratulations, Jay, and I have to say I'm pleased that there's an "Old Skool" color scheme for the new software. Definitely using it. Since it's been brought up before in the past, I wasn't too surprised to see the post count and rankings gone (unless I haven't looked closely enough, and it's just hiding). If saying goodbye to such trivial things is part of your plan, then I guess I'll have to say goodbye to it. I was, however, under the impression that post counts would be retained, if not in the threads themselves, then at least in the users' profiles. Like I said, I suppose it's not that big of a deal overall, but it is always something I've had a bit of affection for, at the very least for my own personal knowledge, and it doesn't help that I was only about 100 or so posts away from finally breaking into the top 10. ^_~

Oh, and as long as I'm here, I might as well ask. Are the old avatars going to be brought over? Or are they already and I missed them?

EDIT: I see upon reading my post that Rankings still exist since mine is visible, but of course that makes me wonder now what they mean if post count is gone. Or is the existing ranking just a changeable title now? Or does it mean that somewhere in the system it's still kept up with? Bleh, I'll shut up now.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

I just wanted to share what is, hopefully, the end of my story. So on Monday, I'd had a really bad day. Nothing really bad happened, but I was just really tired. Turns out I was about to get really sick, but I didn't know that at the time. And all day on campus all I could think about was playing video games. I got a text message from one of my roommates saying that I had mail, and I hoped that maybe C3PX's memory card had finally come in, because he was generous enough to send me one he doesn't use anymore. So I hurried home, and I saw the envelope on the kitchen bar, and I picked it up... and there was another one under it! It was another memory card from the eBay guy! See, I had received my replacement before I had sent the old one back, but I sent it back anyway, specifically saying not to send another one because I'd already received it. Apparently, he didn't notice. So now I have three memory cards: the second one that doesn't work, C3PX's, and this new one. But anyway, I started using C3PX's, making sure only to use the second memory card slot. I don't know how I've had this kind of time this week, but I've been flying through the game, already about 18 hours into it, just starting Disc 3. I guess I've been making up for all the lost time from having to repeatedly restart it. So thanks to C3PX for the memory card, and thanks to everyone else for listening and giving advice!

EDIT: And I've noticed that I've said the word 'memory card' enough times that I'm seeing an eBay banner offering PS2 memory cards. No thanks. ^_~

So thanks for all the comments and help, guys, but I think (and hope) the mystery has finally been solved. Last night, one of my roommates came home and decided to unwind with a game of Guitar Hero II. I wasn't paying much attention, but the conversation at some point shifted to my most recent memory card death, which I hadn't had a chance to tell him yet. I was just starting to tell him that I thought it might be Carl's (my other roommate's) PS2 that was causing the problem. Just as I got that sentence out of my mouth, he attempted to load his game data, and it came back corrupted. I jumped up and yelled with glee, "Yes! Yes! I knew it! It is the PS2!" Then I realized what I had just said, sat down and said, "Boy... I'm really sorry. That sucks." But it was just so nice to finally see an answer.

Denoument: Carl doesn't seem to see the reason why he should pay my roommate back for the memory card it ate, but he agreed to anyway. Since C3PX was kind enough to send me his old memory card for free, I decided not to try to get any money out of Carl. However, I'm still convinced the first memory card I got off eBay was a dud simply because it didn't work from the moment I put it in the PS2.

If the exact same thing happened with two different memory cards, either the guy you bought them from is knowingly selling you defective cards, or more likely the card reader interface on the playstation is defective and it's damaging your cards. Are you sure they don't sell PS2 memory cards in the stores anymore? You could buy one and do the old switcheroo...

I'm really not sure what the problem is. Obviously my first thought was the memory card itself since it wouldn't format from the minute I started using it and then dumped the data not long after and refused to format after. When I got the second memory card, and it worked only to not function in that slot and then lose data and not be able to format, my mind moved to the PS2. But the thing is, my roommates and I use that PS2 all the time, and it's never malfunctioned with memory cards before. Unless it only eats PS1 cards, because my roommates only play PS2. And my original (lost) memory card never had any problems in that slot. So I'm not sure. I'm not quite sure what you're saying, though, about PS2 memory cards. I have a PS2 memory card, but I was under the impression it could only save PS2 data. Old switcheroo...? I'd be interested in hearing more...
