Whats the best way to watch the original trilogy?
Time

The 4K77/80/83 scans are popular because they’re the closest you can get to what actually played in theaters, grain and all. There’s something about watching them the way audiences originally did that no remaster can replicate.

No, they’re popular because until next year, they’re the highest quality way to watch the original theatrical cuts.

Most people would prefer a high-res scan of the original negatives, not the theatrical prints which are a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy (at least)

There’s a reason why studios always scan the negatives for HD/4K re-masters, it just looks far better. Theatrical prints don’t have 4K worth of detail, it’s several generations away from the negatives.

They’d only scan a theatrical print if all the other film was lost.

90%+ of people will stop watching 4K77 once these are released officially.

Some people do prefer the grainy print look, but most don’t.

Do you think the special editions will get the same remastering as the 50th anniversary?

No, they’ve already been rejected as useable sources for the restoration.

Not what the person was asking lol

They were asking if the Special Editions would be re-released using these new 6K/8K film scans, with all of the VFX re-rendered at 4K.

I think the likely answer is no, they’re just going to leave them as the current 4K releases, since those are the final versions that George worked on.

Kathleen Kennedy already said they wouldn’t be touching those versions of the movies, or doing any further edits to them.

Over on the The Star Wars Trilogy Discord, someone got the special privilege of touring Disney/Lucasfilm and included a pic which confirms that the original trilogy has in fact been restored to its original state.

I mean… duh. They already issued a press release months ago saying the original theatrical version will be released in theaters in February 😂

There isn’t a thread about those anymore, however you can still see the compilations of all the leaked clips on YouTube pretty easily. Last time I checked, simply searching “Star Wars Restoration Leak” will not only autofill that phrase, but return minimum 3 different channels at minimum, on top of others simply talking about the restoration but using clips in their video.

What happened to the thread that was here?

It was removed due to legal reasons. I recommend you stop asking about it.

Could put a FAQ up or something. People aren’t mind readers. No need to be rude.

What’s wrong with this forum lately? Why is everyone so sensitive all of a sudden?

I wasn’t being “rude” I’m just saying that we received a serious request to cease conversation from the rights holders… I’m just trying to help you here. I don’t run this thread so I can’t “put up” anything. Also this thread isn’t even about the leaks anyway.

Why do you “recommend I stop asking about it”? lmao

Disney isn’t going to sue me for asking about it. Clearly they don’t care very much, because the leaked clips are still all over YouTube with no takedown requests.

When threads disappear with no information, people are going to ask questions.

And I highly doubt they told you to “cease conversation” about it lmao, that’s not even legal. Can’t censor free speech.

They likely just had an issue with posting all of the leaked clips.

Listen, I’m not in the mood to argue about this with you, yes we did receive a warning to stop talking about this, and no it’s not protected under free speech, if you want to be sued, be my guest. You just have to make every conversation a battle don’t you?

Also, hello RM, welcome back! How was the ban?

Yes, it’s 100% protected under free speech. You’re clearly not an attorney. Go talk to one.

A company can’t sue you for talking about something unless you signed an NDA with them.

Discussing leaks is 100% protected under free speech, posting videos and images of copyrighted material is not, but discussing it is very much fair game.

All of r/StarWarsLeaks on Reddit would be shut down if discussing leaks was illegal lol

I don’t need the 14 year olds on here pretending to be legal experts to me.

Hey RM, long time no see. Is this how you get off? Just being an asshole contrarian? I feel so sorry for you.
You’re a joke. Wonder what your next sock’s name will be.

You shouldn’t be giving out legal advice unless you’re a lawyer. Do you have one? I suggest getting one.

Discussing leaks is 100% legal and protected under free speech.

The mods can remove anything they want here, but that doesn’t make discussing it illegal.

Assuming the site received a cease and desist letter, that’s just a threat, it’s not a lawsuit or legal demand.

They can ask you to stop talking about it, but that’s not legally enforceable, since that’s free speech.

I could get a lawyer to send you a letter demanding you stop insulting me on the internet, but that’s not legally enforceable, since that’s free speech. It’s just a request.

Their real issue is the posting of the leaked images and video clips, since that’s a copyright violation. Just like if I posted a link to download the entire movie for free here, they’d want that link taken down.
