Andor: The Movie Omnibus (Nothing Cut!) [Season Two in progress with NFBisms]

So long as we’re talking about taking more liberties with Rogue One, no Vader hallway scene. Instead, after the Death Star evaporates Jyn & Cassian, fade to white on Mina-Rau, with Bix holding her & Cassian’s baby. Then cut to Leia on the Tantive IV.

Honestly removing the hallway scene would be a mistake.
not to mention that there is maybe minutes to hours between rogue one and a new hope, the bridging scenes smooth that already rough transition.

That one’s not a trim I’d make, I’m afraid. I’m still pro-bridging-content in as many cases as possible. “All of Star Wars is better than any of Star Wars” remains my mantra - no one show, not even Andor, should trump the franchise continuity.

It’s so interesting to me how frequently “cut Vader out of Rogue One” has become the conclusion people are coming to after Andor S2. I can’t see it actually working, especially not since the hallway sequence is one of the most singularly acclaimed bits of Star Wars anything since it came back in 2015

Plus, thematically, (and there is no way Gilroy didn’t do this intentionally in S2 of Andor) anyone who has anything to do with those plans getting out, who touches them, basically gets got. Lonni, Luthen, Melshi, Cass, Jyn… Kleya is the exception but she really does try like hell to die on Coruscant, and is pretty hollowed out when she wakes up on Yavin. Anyway, to even KNOW there are plans, to have the words Death Star inside your head is death (Dedra is going to die in that jail - maybe Kleya only lives because those are the only words she forgot?) - at some point the rebels know this and touch them ANYWAY.

and the Hallway Scene, even though Gilroy had nothing to do with it, still fits that. You boil it down, the iconography, the score, and whaddya got: Rebels, who know that they cannot survive what they’re about to do, but if they do it, the people after them will have a chance, so they do it anyway. It’s a microcosm of the larger themes of both the movie that preceded it, and the prequel Gilroy wrote specifically to lead into that prequel.

ANYWAY: If you need 5.1 audio for both “Fuck the Empire” and the re-voiced Vader/Krennic scene lemme know, I can shoot that over to you no problem

I don’t think the point is to cut the hallway scene. At least when ive expressed cutting vader its been the scene with krennic on mustifar.

Rewatching R1, and i have some thoughts on how to improve it as an Andor story

  • Remove/move the opening scene with Krennic and the family. Open immediately to the Tivix plotline
  • Move the scene introducing Bodhi to the end of Andor, just before the scene where the informant asks to speak to Cassian
  • Add a “I’ve got friends everywhere” to the scene on Jedha
  • Remove the scene with Krennic and Vader on Mustafar
  • Remove the clip of R2D2 and C3PO complaining about going to Scarif

  • I might also release two additional versions of two of my movies, for age appropriateness in different directions. The first, for adults, would be the “fuck the empire” version of the last movie of season one. The second, for children and those for whom it would be a step too far, is a version of the first movie of season two which removes any references to the attempted assault on Bix. I don’t want to deny the horrors or reality of sexual assault or its genuine association with authoritarian regimes, but I can understand people not wanting to have to face that in their Star Wars and would like to give them the option.

I like the idea of a version that removes the SA related scenes, but not as a children’s edit, but as an edit that is accessible to people who might find such content to be distressing.
An actual “children’s” edit might be something that makes Andor flow in with Rebels more closely in tone and style, perhaps revoicing mon mothma’s speech to be that as seen in rebels.

This latter idea might be, however something better suited for a different project.

Hello! I began working closer with PixelJoker95 on his edit when I was starting this project, and he could do a lot more on the VFX side of things than I could so I put a pause on this. We collaborated on some ideas and I helped on the writing of some in-person scenes he was filming, so I didn’t want to rush my release when he was bringing so much to life on his end. His edit has been delayed for the past 6+ months, but it’s still going to be released this year so I’m keeping this on hold until his is out. Mine might not even be necessary after his, but I’ll see if I want to make any storytelling changes after that. Thanks for your interest, it was a fun project so I’d like to pick mine up again some day.

As someone who has been following PixelJoker’s project, this is a very exciting piece of information, I look very much forward to seeing what you come up with.
May the force be with you.
