STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

Ady, are you happy with the original look of the binary sunset? I’m actually talking about the suns in general. Latter films seem to change the look as if to make them look more epic or maybe, more realistic? Lucas spaced them further apart in ROTS, for example.

Just my $0.02.

The shot of the X-wings approaching the Death Star before everyone checks in is easily the worst SE update to the sequence. The extended shot of the ship models gliding across the screen looks less convincing than other, more dynamic shots elsewhere, and the R2 units look incorrect.
I wonder if it’d be feasible or desirable to create two more subtle shots using CG to approximate the two in the original version.

Way I’m thinking right now is maybe the shot could begin with the X-Wings approaching as we see them from the front, and then Red Leader begins conducting his roll call. Once all have responded could we follow up with the squadron as we see the second original shot from behind. How could that work without affecting the soundtrack?!

Shortland Street 😃 A refreshing change from the main awful Aussie soaps on UK tv at the time - well in the Kiwis / Vowel Manglers 😉

I remember seeing Tem for the first time on a short-lived TV series in NZ called Gloss. Another Kiwi in this forum (living in Australia, funnily enough)… 😉

And I still get a laugh out of Tem sounding like a Pakistani in the Martin Campbell directed Vertical Limit which starred Chris O’Donnell, Scott Glenn and the late Bill Paxton. Also recall the Harrison Ford and Anne Heche film Six Days, Seven Nights set in Tahiti where Tem, Cliff Curtis and Danny Trejo were playing pirates and seeing Tem and Cliff speaking Maori to each other had me wondering did Machete even understand what they were saying?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Adam, may I congratulate you (and also Hal9000 for some of the heavy liftings) on such an amazing achievement!! Watching over this movie again (despite the haters), it’s really not as bad as what they say. I enjoyed it the first time I saw it and in light of the problems, trimming down so many unnecessary moments really made this a stronger offering. I’ll get round to Hal’s “Legendary” edit too someday but for now, I’ll be watching this over and over. Bravo, sir!

P.S. - I actually have no issues with Luke’s smirk drinking scene but it’s no biggie really. Well done!! 😃

So now that Solo is out, is there anything from it that may influence this edit?

Just watching ESBR at the moment and it does irk me a little that Leia said his name like Lando always does not to mention Threepio on one occasion. Maybe an audio snippet of how she normally pronounces his name should have been spliced over her odd pronunciation…

P.S. - is it still too early for spoilers?

Yes - far too early mate.

No spoilers in here, or anywhere outside the 3 ‘Solo spoiler threads’, linked to here:-

You really want to see the ghost in return of the Jedi? Well, pause this frame:

Be happy.

I’m down for a Rogue One-esque cameo during the Battle of Endor and I actually wouldn’t mind Ady hiring an extra dressed up as Hera for the Home One briefing. Now if only Dodonna and Riekkan could have been present in some capacity. Lucas really dropped the ball there.

So I’m currently reading The Princess, the Scoundrel and the Farm Boy and it got me thinking of a couple things that could be introduced into the movie. During the chapter where Alderaan has just been disintegrated, there was a description of planetary debris drifting past the Death Star, but in a molten form. I’ll go back into the book and get the exact description.

And atm I’m reading through Han’s arc and at that moment where the Falcon comes out of hyperspace, there was a mention of them avoiding the remains of Alderaan’s demise - as if we could actually see the Falcon weaving around a few fragments.

I’m sure the book has been referred to as canon now.

Regarding the Bunker on Endor…

After watching the scene where Han and Chewie were setting thermal charges in Starkiller Base, I’m beginning to wonder if the Bunker interior on Endor should be larger but obviously not as big as Starkiller Base. Just thinking of the huge explosion shot along with the dish that maybe the interior ‘could’ be more expansive?! Just my $0.02. 😃

The Obi-Wan scene is needless, all he does is tell Luke that Leia is his sister. Cut that. Cut it cut it cut it - do it. Now.
Cut this scene and leave the one where Yoda says “there is another Skywalker.” Trim the scene where Luke and Leia talk on Endor to reflect this
NOW
During the end battle Vader says “you have a twin sister” do a flash of Leia via the Force. Yads did this in one of his edits but if my memory is correct I don’t think he scrubbed all the earlier stuff. Now it was Darth Vader who told Luke that he was his father and now it is Darth Vader telling Luke that he has sister, who is now fair play as a target. The scene makes the Skywalker family tree a revelation to Luke, Vader and the Emperor. Luke losing his cool makes even more sense when you cut it this way. I’ve done an edit of RotJ using the Yads edit as a base (the Boba Fett less one) and it works very, very well.

I disagree. I think Ben needs to answer for out and out lying to Luke. If one half of that interlude needs to go it’s Yoda’s death scene. It’s awful and says less.
Particularly positioned where it is in the movie. He hangs around for the whole gap between Luke leaving for Cloud City and coming back from Jabba just to get a bit ill, tired and then die within a space of a few moments and without finishing his final sentence. The whole sequence is comically awful. George is practically screaming at the audience (I DONT WANT TO DO ANY MORE STAR WARS MOVIES). Like Boba Fett its a thing that we don’t even need to see. Luke could be on Tatooine and sense Yoda’s passing if he is a fully trained Jedi Knight. Ben however has to finish telling Luke the story of his father. I would prefer him to do that where he started on Tatooine where there is some actual resonance rather than resting his ghost butt on a tree stump on Dagobah but it’s not my show.

How would it work if Ben revealed his story to Luke on Endor after the Battle had been won? Of course, some dialogue will need to be edited out such as Luke discovering that Leia is his sister. Which would also include having to possibly bring Luke and Leia’s conversation later in the film as well like before or during the celebrations, but it would be difficult with Luke leaving to face Vader in the scene originally. It would be quite an undertaking and could it really disrupt the flow of the ending that much?!

Exposition when necessary should be a springboard. The only way you could have ghost Ben do this on Endor would be as a prelude to a prequel edit. You won, this is where you have come to, now I will tell to a tale of where you came from.

I guess in a way you’re right. This is a concluding part of a trilogy after all, unlike Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix where Dumbledore had been avoiding Harry for most of the novel, then began to tell everything to him at the end of the story. Luke discovering Vader as his father was hard enough, but to learn that Leia being his twin sister while facing his father during the final battle? Now I’m beginning to think it not being a good idea after all, but I do think the Luke Ben conversation on Dagobah could be touched on a little.

I honestly think he can’t make the deleted scenes work YET, but by the time he’s done he’ll have figured it out.

Spicediver’s Dune Alternate Redux simply inserted selected deleted scenes despite the quality, but I know Ady wouldn’t stoop to such a low. 😉

I love that image of the Rebel Briefing Room looking at the ceiling to see Sullust and other Rebel fleet outside. Love the camouflaged Stormtroopers as well. That would be a mammoth task though, wouldn’t it?

Another suggestion: wouldn’t it be cool to show establishing footage of the Forest Moon as the shuttle Tydirium enters its atmosphere. Maybe hire a helicopter and shoot some footage of the Redwood Forest in California then simply insert all the necessary props etc. Sounds expensive what with hiring a helicopter and pilot though, huh?

I really do like the idea of Luke actually returning to Dagobah before going to Tattooine to rescue Han. And while it looks as though Luke is dabbling in the Dark Side in Jabba’s Palace, I would actually like to see Luke following Obi-Wan’s example but I suppose at the end of the day, he ‘is’ Anakin’s son. Just think of all the unorthodox things Anakin did in the Clone Wars.

The movie should still begin with the Executor being dwarfed by the to be revealed incomplete Death Star and then if that little deleted scene of Vader telepathically communicating with his son could be re-filmed somehow with a little trickery - and then it would be revealed that Luke is in Dagobah in the process of completing his training. How cool would it be if Yoda was there to observe Luke constructing his lightsaber too? If Ady had access to an authentic Yoda muppet, how cool would that be? He built a Wampa from scratch. I suppose building Yoda would be a stretch though.

Thing is though, can Luke fly his X-Wing without R2 as support? He’d have to be on Dagobah too I suppose so sending Threepio to Jabba alone just doesn’t feel right either. He could have accompanied Leia to Tattooine perhaps. Yes, that could work, but how to get him in there? Obviously, Leia met up with Lando and Chewie so maybe it could be established that Threepio was already in the Palace with Lando. So when Boussh (Leia) arrives with Chewie, Threepio can make his appearance at last translating for Jabba.

More food for thought. 😉

I was a big fan of the work done on ANH:R and ESB:R (except for reverting Bobbas voice, and I will fight to the death over that 😄)

One could make the argument that Boba wanted to form his own persona, and not live in the shadow of the clones that were in his “father”'s image, so he adopted a different voice.

That would work if not for the fact he uses his own voice in TCW.

Reverting Boba’s voice to the new version wouldn’t be that hard to do if you want to “personalize” your own ESB:R (both interpretations are good but the original one is far more sinister).
Since Ady is no longer willing to do PT:R I guess we won’t see Temuera Morrison’s face when Boba is seducing the cute dancers.

A) Accents being genetically determined is silly.

But yeah better Fett voice is here to stay so if you want to change it back do your own versions.

It’s not genetically determined though, he uses Logans voice in AoTC and TCW and sounds similar to Morrison (because it was him) when he ages in the same way Rex sounds different when younger (Baker isn’t very good to start with, affecting an Australian accent in TCW) but sounds far more like Morrison by Rebels. None of those are American accents.

I’m just a massive fan of how Morrison sounds (I played Republic Commando) but I don’t feel like making a custom version of TESB:R for the simple reason the recording of the lines isn’t very good in the SE.

I guess I was unclear originally, I meant ‘I prefer Bobba having a Kiwi accent over a generic cowboy one’ rather than ‘I prefer the takes of the dialogue used in the SEs over the original’.

Australian?! Oh, phew - then you bring up Kiwi accent on Logan lol. If you want an ex-pat Kiwi speaking an Australian accent (and I don’t mean Russell Crowe), look no further than Manu Bennett.

No, both Morrison and Logan use their native New Zealand accents but Baker uses what he thinks is a New Zealand accent that sounds Australian through much of TCW. It only starts to sound more Kiwi into Rebels.

I think when Logan moved to LA, he was beginning to adopt an American accent, much like Martin Henderson years ago. As Dee Baker, yeah, maybe he should have researched the Kiwi (or specifically Maori) accent better. Heck, Sir Anthony Hopkins pulled off a convincing accent for The World’s Fastest Indian. There’s more to our accent than Aussies perceiving us saying fush and chups, lol.

Anyway, back on topic. Love that comprehensive list of early ideas. Looking forward to Ady’s official list, whenever it shall come…

Should he really be making a videocall? He is a bounty hunter I think that a little more stealth would be appropriate. How long would he be staying? Will he be eaten like in the OT? But blast himself out in time to see the rebels leaving the planet?

Maybe Boba can send some kind of subspace transmission or something.
