Info Wanted: Should I put my name on my fan edit?
Time

Lots of great suggestions here!
I think I’m going to play it safe and just release it anonymously. I put a lot of work into it and I just want to see what people think of it.
I got rid of the things people have been complaining most about, and the film no longer stops every 5 minutes for a misplaced joke. It’s too bad I can’t discuss the project in greater detail here, but… rules.

Info Wanted: Should I put my name on my fan edit?

I’m not really worried about legal trouble, I’m more concerned with how it might impact my future employment as a video editor. A lot of people in the industry are cool with fan edits, but then there are those who are not. I would hate to lose a potential job because of a fan edit I did 2 years ago, or worse yet, get blacklisted in the industry.

So the more I think about it, as much as I would like to use my real name, I think I will just use a fictitious name. I think I will get a website to post my fan edits on. That way I don’t have to worry about YouTube removing the videos.
I was just shopping for domain names and “DarkEdit.com” is available. That might be a good name for a fan edit site. What do you think?

Info Wanted: Should I put my name on my fan edit?

I’ve completed a fan edit and I’m wondering if I should put my info on it.
“Re-edited by…”
“www…”
“etc…”
Just wondering what the repercussions might be since this is copyrighted material. Also, I would like to edit professionally one day and would hate to lose a job over a fan edit. Then again, if the right person sees it, it might actually lead to a job. I don’t know.

What do you think?
