Great! Downloading now. How did you create this?
Harmy, I just want to say thanks for everything you’ve done. I briefly checked out ROTJ 2.5 last night, and it’s amazing. Lapti Nek has finally been fully restored. And the work you did to replace the blurry reel puts the official Blu Ray to shame. Thanks!
I’ve tried to look through this whole thread as much as possible, but haven’t seen anyone with similar issues to mine. Playing several different ways (Local drive on Kodi or VLC, Network share on Kodi or Plex on 3-4 different networked devices) I can get perfectly solid playback, but FF/RW/skipping to a location (or resuming from a location) is IMPOSSIBLE. With high bitrate encodes I of course expect a delay while the stream catches up, but at best I’m seeing like 30-60 seconds frozen, followed by a brief restart at the location, followed by playback terminating. I’ve found that on my desktop machine IF the file is on my Samsung 850 SSD I can get it to skip forward and resume playback with only a 20-30 second delay, but everything else just fails outright. Is it possible I downloaded a bad encode or is this just the nature of the beast?
It’s a shame because it is truly BEAUTIFUL and both the video and the DTS-MA audio tracks are to die for. But I’ve played a number of files with equally high density video and audio content without this kind of trouble. Just curious if this is a common issue. If I need to re-encode or strip audio tracks I’m not using or anything like that I’d be happy to put some effort into this, I just want to know if it’s possible to make it better.
My wife got so upset when we couldn’t resume playback that we had to finish watching on the official Blu-Ray release. Which I hope doesn’t happen again.
Thanks to everyone who has had a part in making this happen!
FYI, I’ve had similar MKV playback issues on my WD TV Player. I can skip forward, but fast forward is very laggy and imprecise. If I try to rewind, the whole movie pauses and starts over.
What scenes were shot in IMAX?
Not sure if this has been brought up, but has anyone else noticed that an extra bed has been added to the Falcon in the main hold?
I met David Prowse back at a comic convention in New Orleans in the mid 90s.
I’ve been slowly consuming the movie mentally. At first the nitpicks were really in the forefront, but the more I think about it, I’m captivated by the characters, especially Rey and Ren. Thinking about these characters is what makes me want to see the movie again.
As for my nitpicks, the only real weakness for me is the whole Starkiller subplot. I’m still not sure what the weapon was destroying with its multiple beams. Was that one system with multiple planets? Was it supposed to be planets from different systems? How, HOW, are the explosions of these multiple planets visible by looking up in the sky from Takodana, which is in another system? I was immediately reminded of the awful scene in JJ’s Star Trek where Spock looks up in the sky and sees Vulcan imploding.
To be honest, I was expecting Starkiller base to have a completely different primary power based on its name: destroying a sun. In the trailers you heard Ren talking about “showing them the darkness”. I figured the First Order would bring about a different kind of terror - the terror of a world and its inhabitants freezing to death in the dark, or maybe the sun exploding and taking out its whole system.
But despite this flaw, I think the movie still works, and it’s filled with plenty of wonderful moments. My personal favorite was the Falcon’s introduction as “garbage”.
The rebel pilot helmet that Rey put on while she was eating- I’m pretty sure it had the red rebel insignia that was on Luke’s helmet, but I don’t remember any other details. Do you think it’s supposed to be Luke’s, or just a generic rebel helmet?
It’s a generic helmet - one not seen in the original films. You can tell because it had Aurebesh on the side, which none of the OT helmets did.
I have began adding textures to Death Star 3d model, and i discovered something really interesting… there are no good textures, seriously, go search on google, the texture is too small to properly fit on a huge model like the Death Star. So now i have to rebuild the texture… but dont worry, it will look good in the end.
Some fracturing tests have also been made, is looking pretty good 😃
If you’re looking for Death Star textures, the closest you might come are the pics in this thread:
I'm happy to hear about the reduction in the floating grain blobs. So does this mean you might do another pass on the entire movie with SRV13?
An interesting video essay on Abrams visual style and how that might relate to Star Wars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=980&v=7tx5z1kAFwQ
Hmm... This video makes me feel less optimistic about Abrams helming TFA.
I'm in the same boat. This video has me pretty worried about the shaky-cam and zooms.
I would. Just keep in mind the DVD is not anamorphic. It will look iffy on a big HD TV.
Patrick Read Johnson is now saying this will be released soon (again):
This project looks very interesting. Are you looking into doing anything about the anti-aliasing? The jaggies are one of the biggest flaws of the GOUT for me.
I don't see how any preservation would have a legal standing against Disney/LFL if it were "stolen".
And why would they even seek a legal resolution? I'd imagine the preservationists would be thrilled to have their projects stolen.
I know several people here have already put some of these together. There was a UK version in particular that I remember. It had movie mostly movie trailers and a few commercials.
Team Negative One also released a collection of restored trailers for movies from the 80s with their Grindhouse ESB release.
In the end, I think it will come down to personal preference, as I'm not sure there's any real documentation to back this sort of thing up.
Congratulations, Harmy! Very well deserved - you've earned it.
I can continue seeding tonight.
I thought Adywan or his associates had bought this, since he was planning on using some footage for his Revisited version of ROTJ.
Thanks, Erik. Now, the question is, should I drop the megaupload file and help seed Erik's torrent? I think I'm going to finish uploading the dual-layer, because someone will probably want it at some point.
I say finish the DVD9 upload on Megaupload first. Feel free to help reseed the DVD5 later if you want.
I think I fixed the torrent on myspleen. Those interested might want to check. You might need to delete and re-add.
Sorry guys. This is the first time I've tried to upload a torrent :(
