The future of OT.com - UPDATE: Please donate!
Time

Glad to hear the site is ok for a couple more months - hope my donation helps!

I can see why the donation to the site for help suggestion I made might not be a good idea - it was based around the fact that I have little expertise or equipment and when I first came on here someone suggested “X person might do that for you and if you are lucky they wont ask for their costs to be covered” and at that point I would have been so grateful for anyone to do anything for me!

But yes, not such a great idea of mine - sorry.

The future of OT.com - UPDATE: Please donate!
Time

What? No, this site has to carry on! Last summer I came on here as a complete idiot and got chatting to a couple of people who through either gentle or blunt means got me to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and discovered my own copy of despecialised movies…

Haven’t been on here in ages, I don’t have accounts to access stuff that is seeded etc sadly or the ability/or even the content to upload for others - but…I’ve donated as a thank you to the community who helped me out (I was actually quite poorly last summer and the distraction of Star Wars was welcome).

I’m sure there are many of us on here who are complete novices and can only just about manage to click on a link and keep their fingers crossed - so, be gentle with us.

It might be useful/helpful if we had a running total of how much money/how many months in advance the site is paid for? It might encourage people to know if they send $5 each a month then a core group will keep the site going? Additionally, if we know it’s struggling to get over the $75 line most months more of us might chuck some cash into the pot realising we need to?

Finally, and I know this might be a bit “naughty” but for those of us not technically minded - help from the experts should result in a donation to the site - so if anyone asks someone on here for a link or access or a disc to be burned I think the reply back should be “donate to the site and I will”.

just my thoughts - hope the lights stay on for a long time!

Despecialised help required for IT idiot
Time

Hey hey - come on guys - don’t insult…I’m trying my best will zero experience. Being told that I would work it out if I want it bad enough or that I remind them of someone’s mother isn’t nice.

Yesterday I spent a few hours just trying to get the free rapid download thing - I couldn’t work out how to get it from the dropbox account to my laptop and in the end tried to find it online and was met with a barrage of Norton warnings about threats prevented and being directed to german websites with green “download” buttons that were going to make me download “other software” I didn’t want.

It’s been quite stressful this end - and I’m scared of getting a virus on the laptop or doing something to my computer I can’t undo.

Well, part of the problem is I don’t really know how my computer works!! For example, in the instructions to download the rapid downloader it says not to save it under program files because this might affect other plug ins or updates… so…could I save it to desktop? Would that be “safe”?

See, I haven’t even got to downloading a film and I’m stuck! I told you I was IT useless!

But, ni, pittrek, I don’t “need” the discs…I would be quite happy watching them via a USB (I have a portable 1TB HDD actually with some avchd files on it from my camera which I can plug into my blu ray player or tv via a usb port).

Again, I suspect I could just download the avchd versions of despecialized (?) as I have read on here on the forums they are smaller files but little loss in quality?

Any help would be fab!

Despecialised help required for IT idiot

Hi…

For years I have suffered watching Star Wars the way George Lucas wants me to see it…now on blu ray too…and then I found this little corner of the internet and it’s exactly what I wanted…the films as I saw them as a boy!

Except, I can’t really because my IT skills stretch to just about using Microsoft Office and figuring out an itunes account.

Reading the instructions on downloading, and searching online for this or that version of Star Wars/Empire/Jedi is utterly baffling to me…and then how on earth I would be able to watch them on my tv after?

I suspect, at the age of 45, I am beyond the capabilities of learning what a lot of you on this forum seem to be able to take for granted.

Which is a shame, because the spirit of this site is to make the despecialised films available to all…it just seema my awful IT knowledge would stop me.

I own the blu rays, the dvds, the VHS (!) and even the dvds with the awful “special feature” of the original cuts of the films that are about as poor as they could possibly be.

I object, and refuse to pay money to the scum and villany on places like ebay charging stupid prices for (no doubt) the hard work of some people on this forum.

But, what is a UK Star Wars fan who cannot work out his torrent from his download to do?

Is there a kind soul out there who would be prepared to PM me with the ability to burn some discs, and in return I would gladly cover their costs or sort out some other form of “thank you”?

I want to see what Harmy has done…and I want to see Han shoot first, I don’t want comedy Jawas in Mos Eisley, I want to see the original Emperor again and I definately want to see Sebastian Shaw take his rightful place at the end of Jedi…all in HD glory.

If you can help, I promise you will be met with a wave of love from this end.

Thanks
Ed
