oh man, that bluray looks so terrible, and your regrades so wonderful!

Just to nitpick, haven’t we clarified that the blu-ray always looks much more purple and terrible once the frames have been processed in any way? I mean, they still have crappy blue-ish grading, and Dre’s is a million times better. But it doesn’t look as bad as the frame grabs often suggest.

I forget who finally worked this out. Williarob or Neverar maybe? It unfortunately gives a little bit of credit to the pro-SE/PT trolls who have claimed, in the past, that our comparisons exaggerate the BD’s flaws.

Gonna test your theory and pop in the blu ray tonight on the plasma, and find this frame of Owen and see how it looks.

The Fox logo and title cards suffer from very low bitrate. It’s as low as 2Mbps at some moments, causing some macroblocking artifacts. The picture does get much much better, especially when it gets to Hoth. Is there a reason the video bitrate is much lower than version 1?

V2 has all the Despecialized audio tracks, plus fitted for a 25gb blu ray. So the video encode is quite a bit smaller than version 1. Side by side I didn’t notice much of a difference though.

I already know how those posts turn out.

only if you have one of those fancy time machines with extra memory retention. otherwise you travel back in time, but don’t remember anything from the future. basically, time travel is real, we all already traveled back in time, that is why we are the only sentient beings around. but we all made a huge mistake and traveled economy - so no memory retention. we don’t even know that we are from the future.

OMG! **Spoiler alert: Most homeless people on the street are time travelers from the future. And the sad irony is, all of them went back and prevented major catastrophes before their memory faded.

I’m seriously considering finishing this regrade, once project-X is done. Would there be an interest in yet another regrade?

On another note, the various technicolor print scans, and the frames themselves show slight, but consistent color imbalances between shots. Should these be kept for a regrade? What are your opinions on the subject?

My vote: FIX THEM, PLEASE. Especially for the blu ray release which is after all “modern special edition with extra graphix”. 😃 (I can handle the Episode 4 additions… at least it doesn’t have Vader going “NOOOOOO… NOOO!” D&SF(SD&(&(!)

The red pannels in the Death Star control room seem to be less orange than what we often see in other technicolor corrections.

Indeed, and considering the green shift in the print it’s even less orange when corrected.

It’s partially a saturation difference. Pulling those dark greens a bit and bumping the sat:
(I think this is a bit too hot, but just showing how the red panels change a lot)
