Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)
Time

I'm soooo late to the party, but I managed to get the Grindhouse edition in both 720 and 1080. I'm unable to play the feature film files on anything but VLC. Neither my bluray player or my WD can play the files. The thing looks fantastic on my monitor, but I'm trying everything I can to get this on my television, but to no avail. The Seasons Greetings and Previews files work, but the main feature is a no go. Does anyone have any suggestions as to get this going?

By the way, I'm over the moon for those previews. Great work!

Help: looking for... 'Addicted To Star Wars' - could someone throw a lifeline?
Time

I just had a HD crash and 69 hours without power (from that blizzard in the midwest a few days ago), so I’m going a bit cross eyed. Could someone please direct me (or even tell my old forgetful mind what the title is) to the preservation / fan edit that had all 6 Star Wars films on screen at once. It was on my HD, but it crashed before I could make a DVDr. I tried a search, but couldn’t come up with the results. Thank you so much in advance.

Idea: Return of the Living Dead - a workprint...
Time
Well, I have the original 1985 HBO vhs that's in great condition. I paid $90.00 for it back then, the day it was released. I was thinking of maybe using most of the DVD 5.1 remix (mixed down to 2.0) with soundtrack reconstruction where necessicary to replicate best the original feel of the mono soundtrack. I know the Damned's "Dead Beat Dance" was removed from the DVD version and replaced with generic soundalike music and Roky Ericson's "Burn the Flames" is slightly different in that one, but I'm not sure about the rest of the music cues. I think that's the major bulk of the differences; the music.

The workprint is dupey, of course and very unfinished (lots of storyboard scenes), but there're a lot of extended scenes as well as an alternate ending.

I remember Fangoria saying at the time that the movie was "Unreleasable, except maybe on a double bill with 'Plan 9 From Outer Space'.", and, indeed, the workprint makes the film look pretty uncommercial. Post production did a great job in bringing the film to life. Puns.

Idea: Return of the Living Dead - a workprint...
Time

I’m thinking of doing a Return of the Living Dead workprint on DVD. It would include a restoration of the original soundtrack (maybe in original mono and stereo enhancement) and either scenes from the early workprint or at least scenes from it. Has anyone attempted it or something like it?

EDIT: Heh, I mean the early workprint or scenes from it. Not just scenes of scenes. LOL!

Idea: How about an 'Exorcist 2: The Heretic' fan edit?
Time
Now, I've seen this ending. A friend of mine came into an original print of The Heretic when a local Film Depot shut down. It's the original, untampered with cut until the last reel. The last reel has the Burton dies ending. I occurs to me that just the last reel was replaced for the US release (makes sense since it would be cost prohibitive to restrike all the prints), and the extensive recut was for the Euro market and TV.

I'd never seen the VHS release and I only saw glimpses of the movie on broadcast TV, which I why I thought the versions were similar, save for the ending.

I just bought Exorcist 2: The Heretic at Wal Mart the other day. I’ve seen the film many times with both endings and it’s always facinated me. It’s a pretty terrible film, but there’s a grain of a great film in it. I guess the question would be to those who have seen it, what do you think needs to be cut, rearranged, etc. ? I know for a fact, I’d cut the initial exorcism scene and the Linda Blair tap dance scene from the beginning. I’d probably start the film with Richard Burton speaking with the Cardinal and leave the therapist scene lead into Burton’s arrival at the autistic children’s place. It’s a shame you couldn’t have Linda Blair’s introduction in the film come when she runs into Burton for the first time. It’s a good moment. Anyway, what do y’all think?

Help: looking for... Yellowbeard! (has anyone done a good transfer preservation?)

Does it? Can't anyone tell us?

Please?

I've seen the making of and I have a (Very bad) dupe of the final minutes of the Short. Why just the final minutes? I'm a rabid Nilsson fan and the end credits feature an otherwise unreleased song of his, "Men At Sea". You'd think MGM would at least have done that much to put the doc on the disc. I guess that's what we get for Sony acquiring MGM.

'Let It Be' - has anyone done done a quality preservation? (Released)
Time
smc999, thanks for the heads up on the Get Back/Winter DVDs. I'd been looking for these since I first heard about them. If anyone is going to do a restoration or an extended version of "LET IT BE", these DVDs are essential. Whereas the actual released film showed nothing but great preformances and sad and depressing studio banter, this set showed the Beatles having a pretty good time in spite of it all. It even shows the Beatles backing Yoko on one of her sceam therapy pieces, as Jabberdoo satated. I think the best one, though, is John imitating Yoko while she's sitting right there next to him! An excellent anthology.

Info & Help Wanted: Coming To Your Screens Summer 2007 - Super8 OT project...

(gets out the 'ol Rocking Chair...)

You see, back in the day (A long time ago... the 70's), VCRs weren't commercially viable for consumer use, so Super 8mm was the most standard, well, standard for viewing movies in the home. The films were expensive, so most people bought digests. The digests came in 50, 200 and 400ft reels. At Sound speed (24fps), that was about 2, 7, and 17 minutes per reel, respectively. These 400 ft color sound reels went to the more discriminating Super 8mm buyers. Most of us kids at the time bought the 200ft black and white, silent versions to relive our movie thrills.

I had most of these reels, but sold them a few years back for some quick cash. It would be wonderful to see these again!

BTW, I believe the ESB reels went as follows:

Reel one: Battle on Hoth, Dagobah crash landing and the asteroid field.
Reel two: More Dagobah, Bespin sequence.

Bring them on!
