STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
Honestly I know nothing of the process or costs of running a torrent tracker.
I'm guessing if we had a OT dedicated tracker, it should be able to run on donations just fine.

As far as legal, I'm no lawyer, but last ruling up in Canada basically said P2P file trading is legal.

Can anyone help with any of these points? Sounds like if the details are right Karyoudo might be interested...

The "Farsight" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Soooo. Guess that's a big fat no-one.

I did find a great 4 set of cover art. The info on it is more correct than the cover art on disc 4 of the Farsight set.
Does that make sense?

The 'official' Farsight labels say DD5.1 and subtitles for English, Chinese, Malay and Indonesian?!
The set floating on eMule (along with a .rar package of the Farsight set) says DD 2.0 and English subs for Alien Languages.
Artwork is very nearly the same though.

I'll be using this pack. PM me if you want a copy of this cover art pack.

Does anyone have art for DVD labels? I'm still looking for that...

The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)

I wish I hadn't deleted my copy of ESB from my hard drive or I'd get you a screen shot.

It's most notable in darker scenes. For example when Luke first walks in to find Vader in Cloud City, look at the red lighting on the steps.
You can see gradients in the color. (Distinct bands going from light to dark as you move out from the light source).

If it isn't from the compression, then there was something wrong with your capture.

I'm no expert, it's just what my eyes see.

I think what is important is that a federal judge ruled regarding the Digital Millennium Copyright act that as long as the material in question is no longer available, the DMC does not apply.

This is why MANY video game manufacturers are bring ancient arcade games out for PDA's, Cell Phones, Portables, etc. Otherwise they lose the protection of their copyright.

One could argue that the OT no longer exists in any format and is therefore legally available for those in need of a backup copy.

Regarding Magnoliafan's Balance of the Force,
ADigitalman said:
There are DVD-Rs floating around with two subtitle streams and four subtitle streams. You can get a hold of one pretty much by turning on Private Messaging [PM] and then asking aloud. Lots of us on the board are willing to spread the love. All three of the optional subtitles attempt to address your points in different ways. It's been a fun project so far.

Ok, second try, anyone have these alternate titles? Just as a sub/srt file would be fine, I'm not picky.
PM me...

Who has caved?
Time
Haven't seen them, won't buy them. Maybe borrow from the local library so I can yell at my TV.

TOP 3 Reasons:

Lucas is actually considering episodes 7, 8, 9. That means more changes to come to the OT. Maybe removing the Corisant celebration?

2007=30th Anniversary: Bluray (HDDVD?) big momma jomma set is in the works. Can you say all 6 movies reworked, again... Maybe we can hope for original versions on these, but my breathe isn't held.

I LOVE the original versions. I saw the SE's in the theater (yes all 3), and almost cried.

Star Wars - The Edits and DVDr releases thread

I hope you'll all excuse the n00b question, but after much lurking, reading and LOTS of d/l'ding, I have found myself more pleased with the visual quality of the Farsight transfer (which I know makes me a bit of an oddity).

As I recall the only true defect is the missing Leai welding scene.

Can anyone give me specifics as to WHAT that scene is, about how long, and maybe a time-frame in the movie?
I'd like to see it for myself to decide how important it is to me (I have the TR47 version as well, just don't want to sit through the whole film to find the scene not knowing what I'm looking for.)

Finally I got to say I'm so in love with what I've seen on project Zion, I cannot wait.

And also, a huge thank you to the community. I had vaguely considered doing a DVD transfer myself with my hugely inadequate knowledge, a PC with a line in and a LD player. I can't imagine the time and effort that all of you have put into these.

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)
Time
Just watched BotF, and am willing to give CW as chance.

Just a couple of quick comments (not that everyone else hasn't given their $.02.

Xvid encoding: Large size file yet still looks poor with tinny audio (and occasional audio echos). How come? The file is large enough to be pretty damn amazing from an edited DVD source. Also the aspect ration is a bit wonkey in some players. I use something fairly standard (Media Player Classic), yet I have to switch to WMP to get the aspect ration correct when watching. I don't have this problem with other Xvids.

Movie itself: Great. Loved that you moved some plot points to the front and changed some of the relationships. Muzzling JarJar and whiney Anakin makes the movie tolerable again. I'd love more character development now, but if Lucas didn't shoot it, there's not much that can be done there.

My only complaint is about the subtitled languages. I can live with the scrambled audio. Any collection of sounds have the possibility of being a language somewhere. I also have to believe that there are some sort of universal translators, that people DO understand multiple languages, or that JarJar is a jackass and makes comments to people who don't understand a word he's saying. (Heck I didn't understand Boss Nass when he spoken ENGLISH).

BUT, that being said, the subtitles could be better timed (and are long winded for the period given to read them). It might work better if they were a larger type-face. I watch on a 19" TV and by the time I make out the titles I usually miss the end of them.

Finally, some of the added titled dialog needs revision. The idea is good, but actor responses are quite often inappropriate to the new context.
Example: Kill them/his family - Actor's physical body language: Ok let's go.
I don't have to kill you human's after all - (And there was much rejoicing)(?)
Etc.
Also, some dialog sounds clunky in the context of the SW universe. And what's this about a stolen Gungan crystal? It's just now how the OT would have sounded if Lucas made these 15 years ago.

I guess what I'm saying is you need a re-write, but the ides are quite good.
Should we expect a version 2?
