We cannot campaign for the OOT and simultaneously call for editing of the PT.
Double standards of the highest order.
I don’t agree at all because it’s not the same thing. I don’t think anyone cares whether or not Lucas made a special edition of the original Star Wars trilogy, hell make one every year in a constant stream of different versions for all I care. What we all care about are the original versions. We simply want access to them and that’s what Lucas have been denying us for so long. And the fact that he called the new versions “special editions” really says everything about that issue in my opinion. Any “special edition” should have an original otherwise they aren’t special editions.
But back to your statement regarding “double standards of the highest order”. I certainly don’t deny Lucas the right to make prequels or to view the Star Wars universe in which ever way he prefers. This is not an issue of remaking the prequels and replacing Lucas’ vision with them as cannon instead and deny the few fans of these crappy movies their right to view them as Lucas intended them to be seen. No, simply give us fans a really good Star Wars prequel trilogy telling the story of the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, made with the same energy and sense of adventure as the originals and we will all be happy campers. Disney would surely make some serious bucks from such a project and I personally wouldn’t care whether or not Disney declared the new versions official Star Wars cannon and relegated Lucas versions to the Star Wars Expanded Universe. I am capable of making up my own mind which prequel trilogy is cannon and not.
I have a hard time seeing how Disney could manage to screw up the prequels so totally that the result was worse than Lucas versions, I don’t think that’s possible, so in that case - go for it.
