Hey guys, I'm starting a Jedi v. Sith fantasy football league with various but minor tweaks that make it unique and follow a Jedi v. Sith theme. I am pimping a league but I'm just looking for like-minded fans who will get the most out of something like this, some of the fantasy football forums out there are too traditional/haughty.
If you don't know much about fantasy football this league may not be for you, but anyone who is interested is of course welcome. I'm setting it up as a 0.5 PPR, 16-team ESPN league with a $75 (possibly $50) buy-in. (I of course do not profit in any way from this money, this is like an ante I do not control, the popular website Leaguesafe handles it.)
You may not do well unless you have played FF before, these are kind of the people I'm looking for, because I think being a fan of the series and at least a little familiar with fantasy sports will give you the most enjoyment out of this league. But, if you're just dipping your toe in and want to join that's cool too! I will explain stuff as best I can to any such player.
The Star Wars specific wrinkles are these:
Two divisions of 16 teams, one made up of 8 Jedi and one made up of 8 sith.
I am Darth Plagueis. You can choose any Sith or Jedi identity you want so long as it is a real character (I count Kotor, EU, etc) and real force user (or very close ally a la General Grievous). Beyond that I only ask that Yoda speak as Yoda really does in the message board/draft room, though I encourage anyone to take on their chosen persona.
For the playoffs, the Jedi wildcard will be the team with the most remaining points, while the Sith wildcard will have the best remaining record. This is because Jedi arguably have more discipline while the Sith overpower and brutalize.
During the regular season all head-to-head matchups will be Jedi v. Sith, to keep with the theme. And during the playoffs it is mostly points-based, so no Jedi are ever fighting other Jedi.
At season's end if a Jedi wins the league then all the other seven Jedi get an additional $10 since they are more altruistic. If a Sith wins the league then the winner and 2nd place Sith each get $35 more because most Sith adhere to the Rule of Two.
I also think the large auction draft (fake ESPN money) will be fun with various Jedi/Sith personalities one-upping each other. If you've done an auction draft before you know it can be exciting. Finally, the league will crown a champion force user pretty close to the release of the movie. So the champion can feel free to splurge their $600 check on any of the toy/tickets/food hype-insanity going on at that time.
So, if anyone is interested in joining the dark (or light) side of this league, please say so in here. Thanks!
I have 7/16 spots filled as of now.
