As for the meditation chamber view screen, i have removed all of the graphics and have just kept the outer detailing. It did look too busy so i'm going to keep those to use in ROTJ:R

Yay! Awesome. :)

I wonder what they'll be used in ROTJ for... maybe they could be put on the Emperor's window so he's not randomly looking out into space doing nothing?

The emperor doesn't need a HUD. He stares out the window at the universe and sees everything with the force!

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

An idea for ROTJ to improve the battle on Endor and reduce the ewok problem.

1. Replace the Tydirium with a larger cargo shuttle and instead of a small strike team make it big enough to carry 100 rebel commandos. This would require a new CGI cargo ship and maybe a build of the back ramp of the cargo ship. Then film some extras boarding on the calamari ship and then exiting on Endor. An added benefit of this change would be to keep the shuttle Vader and the Emperor travel on as 'special', not just run of the mill general purpose shuttles.

2. Feature more rebel commandos in the ground battle. These could be largely responsible for the victory with the ewoks simply helping the troops find the 'back door' and acting as decoys. This would require location shooting in a forest with lots of extras in rebel and stormtrooper outfits.

So your convoluted scheme achieves what exactly?
Instead of Anakin being the fallen Jedi who becomes Darth Vader... he's the fallen Jedi who defeated Darth Vader and assumed his name? What?

Convoluted eh? Not like the plot of Eps 1, 2 and 3 which are incredibly complex and make NO SENSE at all (copyright redlettermedia :)). I thought this was a forum for how we would have done ROTJ differently so this was MY opinion. Admittedly it diverged a bit off topic with the turn of Anakin but that is important for ROTJ.

Sure it affects the prequels more but it also affects the Vader/Luke plot in ROTJ, particularly Ben's explanation to Luke.

Also it affects the way people treat Luke. If it was common knowledge that Anakin had turned to the dark side and become a sith (and everyone would have found out especially amongst the rebels) then they would be very wary of Luke. However if Anakin is still remembered as a great hero of the old republic then they would be far more welcoming to Luke.

A great problem in ROTJ and the OT is the handling of the fact that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker. Ben's from 'a certain point of view' argument is weak. Also everyone seems to remember Anakin as a great hero not the child murdering scumbag he actually is.

My solution is this:

Darth Vader is Obi wan's apprentice. He is called Darth Vader since that is his name (Darth is not a title for sith lords). Anakin is a full jedi knight and a hero of the republic.

Darth Vader is tempted by the emperor and the dark side and eventually becomes a sith. He starts helping the emperor to hunt down and destroy the jedi. Ben and Anakin lead the war against the emperor and vader. This war culminates in a duel between Ben and Anakin vs Vader overseen by the emperor. Vader is winning and all will be lost. The galaxy will fall into darkness and also Padme (and his unborn children will die).

In desperation Anakin is tempted to use the dark side to kill Vader. He does this but is unable to come back to the light. Ben realises that Anakin is lost and will now replace Vader as the emperors new henchman.

The emperor orders Anakin to kill Ben and they duel. Ben wins the fight and flees but Anakin is hideously disfigured. The emperor does not wish the public to know that his champion (Vader) has been defeated so he has Anakin suited up and calls him Darth Vader. No one can see his face, so no one will ever know. The emperor will let it be known that Vader killed Anakin and forced Ben to flee. He will say that Vader was hideously disfigured by the cowardly jedi and must now wear a mask in order to stay alive.

This satisfies the following continuity problems.

Darth Vader was a pupil of Obi Wan who turned to the dark side.

Anakin was a full jedi, not a padawan.

Darth Vader kills Anakin. Well not quite, but that is what the general public think. Only Ben knows the truth. When Luke questions him about it he can truthfully say that Anakin was a great jedi and a great friend. He wanted to shield Luke from the fact that Anakin turned to the dark side in an attempt to defeat the real Darth Vader).

Anakin is still remembered as a great hero by the general public. Only Ben knows the truth that Vader is Anakin.

The real Darth Vader (not Anakin) can kill the younglings although I would not have that scene in at all.

I really don't see what the problem people have with the entrance to mos Eisley is. There is hardly any Cg in there at all. All the buildings etc were models. Only the speeder and some minor stuff that is left in the revisited edit was actually CG. People complain because they see Mos Eisley as this small spaceport and the SE turned it into something larger. Well it was always supposed to be a lot larger and , before anyone says it, no i'm not taking this from the Lucas revision. The falcon was parked at docking bay 94. that means that there is at least 93 other docking bays so it has to be a larger place than we originally thought. It was actually one of the only additions i thought was right in the special editions (apart from the crap droid and ronto/jawa humour and stupid ronto blocking the camera). The only thing i would probably change is the mirrored stormtroopers

I agree. The only one other thing I really liked in the SE were the windows and balconies on cloud city.

The AT-ST doesn't make much sense anywhere, but makes more sense in the wide open snowfields than the cramped forest. :p

Yeah, with repulser craft like snow or landspeeders why design an easily flawed 'chicken walker', just sneeze and it falls over.

J

I like the ATST in ESB, but judging by the changes in the new 16 minute clip ESB:R will be my version of choice. The new emperor scene and 'Bring my shuttle' more than make up for losing a brief glimpse of the ATST.

The ATST and the speeder bikes in Jedi do not make much sense but then you may as well ask:

Why didn't the gunner on the star destroyer just shoot the escape pod "just to be sure"? (I bet he got force choked soon after!)

Why do the stormtroopers ride giant lizards on Tatooine?

When our heroes jump in the garbage chute, why don't the stormtroopers check out the station schematics and go and wait for them at the door?

Leia knew the falcon was being tracked so why didn't she ditch it on a neutral planet and take a different ship to Yavin?

Why didn't the death star designer put some protection around the exhaust port?

Why didn't the empire nuke hoth from orbit instead of sending a ground assault?

Why didn't vader just break the falcon's hyperdrive rather than just having it switched off?

Don't start me on the rescue 'plan' at the start of ROTJ.

Why didn't the emperor have large shutters installed in those tubes the rebels fly through to get to the death star reactor?

Why can't a crack legion of stormtroopers crush an insurgency comprised of teddy bears armed with sticks and stones?

SW is full of plot holes if you scrutinise it too closely. The story and the spectacle are what matter (well apart from the teddy bears, I can't suspend disbelief that much).

Anal retentive or what!? I'm amazed some peeps on here made it more than 10 mins into any of the Star Wars Special Editions with all the gaffes/ CG atrocities and continuity errors - must make their heads explode!

I'm all for attention to detail but there has to be a limit. When peeps are asking for things like potato asteroid being removed, highlighting something that appears on a single frame and now this - then you've gone too far. Give adywan some credit. His work is amazing and his decision-making is spot-on. I hate for him to get bogged down on a single scene which is already awesome - when there is a WHOLE FILM to edit.

Well said that man. Stop examining each pixel, frame by frame. The new scene looks great. It is the ROTJ emperor saying (more or less) Clive Revill's lines. Scene is done. I don't care if the audio is changed between now and release, though I respect Ady's decision as to that.

That's not to say I don't like Adys changes. I loved ANH:R and I am excited about all the changes in ESB:R. I just wanted to say that I have a love of the old fashioned arts of movie making.

Ady released a pre SE version of ESB ;) Its full of the stuff you like in the best quality available. You can check it ;) There you will find "your dagobah"

-Angel

As I said, I like the stuff Ady has done. IN ANH:R he enhanced some mattes but they are still there. He revisited with a light touch. Even when he did cut loose with his big changes (DS reveal and the battle of Yavin) I felt he was spot on (particularly the battle which is now epic).

In ESB I love some of the SE stuff, such as the windows in cloud city but I hate the vader shuttle sequence / Boba Fett's voice and the Emperor's dialogue. It looks like Ady is removing/fixing all these but keeping the stuff I like and giving it a polish too. The best of both worlds.

Also, any word on (1) the yellow/orange lights on the Executor nose being recolored to match the blue along the side of the ship and

Sorry, didn't see this the first time. Yes the lights have been recoloured at the tip in that shot along with the removal of the bad garbage matte on the executor from the closest stardestroyer.

Angel, i really don't think that the darkness of the Executor looks any better than it being too light. In fact i think it looks worse. It doesn't have to be that dark. Visually it's now become lost in the sea of stars. I've recoloured and darkened it a little but i won't be changing it any more.

What really depresses me about this shot is just how much they destroyed the detail due to the crushed blacks. Another thing i noticed is that they recomposited the falcon for the 2004 release as it's in a slightly different position from previous versions

Ady, that looks great. I think GL should just hire you and lock you in a room with the original 35mm film. It would be great to see what you could do with access to the originals.

So are you suggesting to lighten up the previous shots when you are clearly see that the trench is dark as hell? I kept the details i kept the lights with every visual impact available. I still think my version is more organic from the original flat one. Not to mention it looks less like a prop ;)

-Angel

No, I am not suggesting that, I am suggesting keep it dark in the other shots and keep it light here. There could be heaps of explanations for the difference if you really need one.

1. There may be a new light source. The local star perhaps, or a reflection from Bespin or one of its moons.

2. Most of the other shots could have been in deep space so they looked darker.

3. A simpler explanation is that this is a chase shot. We are following the falcon. It has gone into a dark area so the director made the shot lighter to suggest that the participants eyes had adjusted to the dark and their pupils had dilated.

As for the 'prop', I think the model is awesome. When the image is viewed as it should be (moving, not frozen) it looks incredible. I think the lighting in ESB is one of the films strengths. It enhances the mood of the whole film. I think changes to the lighting should be minor (IMHO).

I like i still see quotes "like/favorite/nostalgia/originality" in the shots that were suggested to be altered for artistic reasons and not for the 80s feeling. I accept that :) because its ady's edit. Still its not (for me) a strong reason for not doing it.

Anyways too much talking and less action. this was a request from a friend that pointed that the light comes from some source that lights the side of the executor weirdly. You can tell me that might is the sun that comes behind the bespin system and there is an other mysterious sun that comes behind the executor. I dont know how much with all the maneuvers from the falcon and the executor pursuit how the angles are changing and new lightsources are in present but even so the main light still comes from the left and the right light appears from nowhere... So:

This might look more proper..

Its me or it looks more awesome the duo colors for the executor rather have one tint all over it? Blueish for the hull and gray for the trench.

-Angel

I prefer the lighter look in this shot. The Executor is such an awesome ship and we see so little of it up close. In the darker shot we see much less detail and so the scene loses quite a bit of impact.

In ROTJ there is a big thing made about The Executor losing her bridge deflector shield allowing for the A-Wing to crash into the bridge window.

In ESB an entire bridge pod is taken out by a rock without any indication of a deflector shield being hit.

Is this worth thinking about or can we mark it down to an unlucky strike?

If it does niggle any readers which of the two films does it create the bigger problem for?

It never bothered me, I just thought the asteroid hitting the star destroyer was a cool shot that established that the fleet was taking some damage during its hunt for the falcon. IMHO it requires no explanation.

It is impossible to make the techy side of SW consistent throughout the entire saga and I don't think it is a good idea to try. If you do you end up trying to figure out how far the kessel run is and what doing it in less than 12 parsecs means and how that equates to the falcon being "on the other side of the galaxy by now", just a second after the star destroyer loses it.

I suggest we should leave physics out of it. SW is fantasy not hard sci-fi. For example, in reality, asteroid fields are very sparse with millions of kilometres between each asteroid. Nothing like the one in ESB. I suggest Ady should do what looks good. Judging by SWR he will.

I never liked Han's "I know" line after Leia says "I love you" either. I think George Lucas was right having Han say "I love you too." "I know" is too cheesy. I heard the line was filmed, do you have access to that line Adywan? Perhaps you could replace it with that?

By the way, if you believed what I just said, you just got punk'd.

"I know" is cheesy and "I love you too" is not???? Coming from a smuggler????

Boy, I recommend you an urgent exorcism... GL, I command you to abandon this guy's body!!!! ;-P

How about Han breaks his hands out of his restraints and makes the W sign!
