Not defending MS in anyway, because i know they have their share of flaws/problems. But you do realize that MS has stock in Apple, and its my understanding that part of the agreement is that MS can use (take) 'features/programs' (ie the crazy application switching thing that Mac has). Now i dont know the specifics of it, and im sure that its slightly more complicated than we want this so we'll use it (and ill give you that even when they take that stuff MS doesnt always implement it as well) but that said, i dont think its fair to say MS 'rips off' apple when there is an agreement (technology sharing agreement would be the best term i think, but not sure how much sharing it is) between the two.

with that said, I remember the days when people with a mac had to pull the light and mirror show to be able to connect to windows file shares. maybe this has changed in recent years, but the point is you cant forget that even if it is better now (and once i disable 'idiot' (simple) file sharing on xp i generally have no connection problems unless its with someone using idiot file sharing or windows me) it wasnt always that. The simple file sharing in windows is one of the prime examples of MS trying to 'dumb' things down for the average user that doesnt know anything and making it harder on those of use who actually know what we are doing (which seems to be most people on this board, and probably everyone in this thread)

Please dont take any of this the wrong way, but I feel (and this is a generalization) that mac users tend to overlook any imperfections with the mac and point out all those (perceived and real) with the pc. Mind you most pc users do this too. The guy who works for me uses both on a regular basis and he probably is the most impartial opinion i've ever heard. he has pros and cons of both.

part of the problem microsoft has is that since they are so mainstream, and the compatibility is a big part of their appeal, when the release a new OS its excpected to be backwards compatible. So if they do a complete rewrite, starting from the ground up, and working on all the 'security issues' and other problems then they will loose that compatibility with previous versions of software (i read some article detailing this). I personally think they should bite the bullet and start fresh (keep it simple, and not put all this bloatware in) and it would help the product in the long run, making it much faster and reliable.

i could probably go on with more specifics, but ill say just 2 final things. Windows ME was NOT a predecessor to Windows XP (as someone seemed to imply in an earlier post). ME came out at the same time as XP and pretty sure it was more of an upgrade to 98, sort of a middle ground from going direct to XP. Also it was a total failure and from my few experiences with it had trouble with everything, I'm pretty sure microsoft stopped supporting it.

finally, i find it totally ironic that in order to get your product certified or tested with MS XP (whichever the lowest 'certification' is) you need to not have unnecessary reboots, yet nearly everything that MS itself puts out requires a reboot.

ps. I agree Win2K is a fine peice of software.

I would not consider "Oliver and Company" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" forgotten, both are available on dvd, and i think most people know of them, especially roger rabbit. "Song of the South" isn't really forgotten either, just not officially available. I think a lot of people know about it, Disney wishes it was forgotten though.

One that i always got weird looks when i brought it up was "The Peanut Butter Solution". didnt know the name of it when i was asking, just the plot. Found a 'preserved' dvd copy on ebay though.

So was being wheelchair-bound what got him taken off the Enterprise? Doesn't seem very fair, especially in a politically correct Star Trek universe. All Starfleet captains really do is sit in a chair all day anyway , and I imagine you can get some pretty badass hover-wheelchairs in the future. In fact, I'm pretty damn sure they could easily undo his paralysis with the help of some nanobots or some other trekky-future technology.

if im not mistaken, that episode was actually the original pilot episode (well the story told in it was) it was one of those 'flashback' episodes, i believe they used a trial if my memory serves me correctly. they showed clips of the mission with captain pike's crew (the clips were from the original pilot)

the only character that survived the original pilot was Spock. They felt that the audience wouldnt buy the 2nd in command being female (it was actually gene rodenbury's wife). not sure if there was any other reason they scrapped that pilot or not.

*edit* just went back and read the whole thread and noticed that HSvIIJ mentioned the pilot episode. i couldnt quite remember the title of it but HSvIIJ mentioned it in his post 'The Cage'

this actually has to be supported by the burner itself and just because you can burn +r's doesnt mean you can set the book type.

here are instructions for how to do it in nero http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php#Nero-Booktyping-Bitsetting if you cant get those options its most likely your burner doesnt support bit setting.

as far as what it does, it basically makes the burnt disc more compatible with standalone players

so yiyf! what's the best tea out there, in your opinion?
I just drink standard black tea with milk. You guys call it English Breakfast tea. In England, you ask for tea, that's what you get - none of this herbal strawberry cinnamon stuff. I mean, it exists in England, but you say 'Tea' and people assume you mean the black stuff with milk, maybe sugar.

I must say though I do like green tea - not the liptons shit you get in the supermarket though, I'm talking about the real stuff. I have a japanese friend who imports it. Great stuff.

my brother and his fiance just returned from tawain and the brought me back some green tea

Video and Article: Rep Won't Let Customer Cancel AOL Account
Time

In that capacity, it pisses me off that AOL fired the guy. He was just doing the job. And the company, to save face, uses the guy who gets caught as the scapegoat and disavows any knowledge of his existence. Geez, this is AOL, not the Her Majesty's Secret Service!

while it is company policy (AOL is well known for not letting (giving people a hard time) people cancel their account) if that is an accurate transcript he took it way to far. Company policy or not, there's gotta be some point where you're just like, 'ok, sorry you're not happy with our service. we regret that we can't make it better for you, thank you. we will cancel your account' or something along those lines. and the reps need to use their head more in those situations.

rep - 'why do you want to cancel'
customer - 'i just do'
r - 'can we do any thing to make it better'
c - 'cancel my account'
r - 'no, i want to help you. you'll regret this later'
thought on response - wtf? who the hell are you, its freaking internet service

imho the rep should have let it go and not been so pushy, he made it seem like the guy was making a decision that would ruin his life
telling him its in his best interest to keep the account, id seriously ask him if he was threatining me at that point and tell him im calling the cops.
telling the customer that canceling the account wouldnt be helping him
asking to speak to his father??? (who the fuck does this rep think he is)

only thing i can say in his defense is that the customer should have demanded to speak to a manager like 2 minutes into the convo, though since the rep should never have been that pushy it doesnt really help his situation.

Agreed. I have no idea what Lucas was thinking having Padme die in birth. It completely destroys the continuity.

As for Leia being the youngest Senator, I believe she was elected in her late teens, whereas Padme says in "Clones" that they 'ammended the constitution' to allow her to serve multiple terms as queen, so she was probably 20 or so when she started.

nope they wanted to change the constitution so she could serve more terms but she didnt want to/feel it was right. havent seen the movie in a long time (right before sith came out) but pretty sure thats how it went.

WHO LIKES To drink

I gotta call you on this, in my experience people that make comments like this usually double (at minimum) their drink count.

i do it all the time in my long island icetea. man those things are the devil, 6 of the worst alcholes mixed with some icetea, and lemon. they dont even taste like there is alchol in them.

and this supports my claim since you 'had' 4 of them and don't even know whats in it.

vodka, tequilla, rum, gin, triple sec, sours, coke (just a touch for color)

http://coffeetea.about.com/od/icedteaalc/a/longisland.htm

first three google results, next two varied slightly (had an orange liquor) but none had whiskey

and if you want a drink to mess you up http://www.webtender.com/db/drink/1262 equal parts kahlua, vodka, club soda in a rocks glass (with ice) pour them in in that order (slowly over a spoon so they are seperated, kinda like you make a black and tan) then drink (basically chug it) through a straw

I am too, Bossk, but part of that is that I am a Superman fan and desperately want this movie to be good, even if I'm afraid that it won't be. If for nothing else, than it has been quite a bit of time between Superman IV and Superman Returns, and I'm afraid that if Superman Returns bombs, then it will be another 20 years or longer until we get another Superman movie.

which is why they should have gone the batman begins route and started from scratch. only thing i still really dont like in batman begins is the batmobile

how so? if you mean the box set after all three where done that doesn't really count (imho) because it was known from the beginning. and i believe i heard they had a get the box offer with the proofs of purchases of the three movies and shipping cost

Exactly...I also said this in the other Superman thread, but what's with all the dissappering and reappering shit at the end of Supes 2?

And if Superman is faster than a bullet, why does it take him like 5 mins to get from Metropolis to Paris?

I'm only fucking around, who really gives a shit, it's just a film!!
I always wondered how and why in the film Superman sort of 'faded' from Clark Kent to Superman. He didn't get undressed to reveal the superman suit underneath, he just sort of 'faded'. Even in the revolving doors it didn't look like there was any undressing going on, just 'fading'.

Anyone got an answer for me? Huh?

just an artistic way of showing the speed at which he changed

no, dont change the aspect ratio. thats the witdh vs height. if you change that it will distort your picture. you want to change the size proportianatly (ie cut both witdh and height in half) bhotoshop has a check box to preserve the proportions when you change one dimension gotta figure it out yourself in paint

Yeah, basically. Mark's pretty geeked out about comic books. Who better to ask than him? ^_^

I think that the reason most people like other comic book characters over Superman, is because he's too much of a boy scout. He has not inner turmoil that makes him cool. Plus, unlike the other superheroes, we can't achive his status. He's an alien. At least with Spider-Man or the X-Men we could have a chance, and with Batman we could be just like him too, but Superman? No. We really can't be him.

So the only way for Superman to be cool is to have him act like a pretentious prick?

if inner turmoil = pretensious prick then yeah. but your the only one that said that. you can have inner turmoil without being an ass

Wii package: what would you pay?
Time
Gaffer, unless my memory fails me none of those bundles (and there were others over time) where at launch. also bundles like this are not packaged by nintendo but rather by the retailer. while its true nes came with games there were various different bundles and i couldn't tell you what was the release package. i don't recall if snes had a game packaged with its launch but i think genesis had sonic and 1 controller.

after the system has been out for a bit they usually have bundles, generally special packages (n64 w/pod racer or n64 w/dk country). and iirc these where either slightly more or happened after the first price drop.

nintendo kept the system packaged with 2 controllers and/or a game the longest and their last 2 releases where 1 controller and no game .

now, this is not to say i dont think a system shouldnt come with 2 controllers and a game but thats a thing of the past and i doubt systems will release like that again (actually increases system cost).

so of all the systems you mentioned getting which were at launch and which weren't, cause that changes 'what your used to'.

basically if nintendo brings it out at 199 or less that will be system and 1 controller no games. any 'bundles' at launch will be retailer made. if it does come with wii sports price will def be 249.99 though my guess is 249.99 system and 1 controller accessories/games similar to those of n64/gc at launch $10 more max

-Darth Simon

*edit* i voted >299 based on what i said figuring it will be about $330 (to $350) for that package
