This is so wizard! I look forward to seeing the final version. I hope you are sticking with the Sir Alec Guinness version for continuity sake. It took me awhile to let go of Sebastian Shaw at the end of RoTJ, but I’ve come to accept Hayden’s version at the end of that film. I am assuming you’ll use that version of Anakin (Hayden) for this shot?

I enjoyed this edit. Really digging the Palpatine nods sprinkled throughout TLJ now. They are subtle, but they help bring some cohesion to the disjointed sequel trilogy. I also like Rey communing with Finn through the force before he is awaken from his coma. Things that aren’t real my taste are the conservative trimming of the opening Hux/Poe scene and Luke’s still disrespectful saber toss. The Canto Bight subplot could be trimmed more in my opinion too, but overall it was top notch. Thanks for all your hard work and may the force be with you!

Here’s my attempt at changing the tint of Exegol (from blue to green) without changing the color of the lightning. I still have no idea how to handle the lightsabers, but this is a start.

Honestly, I was fine with the original blue hue. However, the contrast between the force lighting and the new green hue of the planet is pretty cool. Also it definitely reminds me of the clone wars arcs on Dathomir with the nightsisters and their force magic. Not sure if that was your intention, but a nice call back to the prequel era regardless.

Neither, really. Or I guess a bit of both? They need to evoke the organized militaristic vibe of the Third Reich while still being clearly new blood.

On a different note, I was wondering if there would be a way to establish very early in TFA that Jakku is just a more modern name for Tatooine. I don’t like clashing with canon, and the name comes up to often to edit out anyways, so I figure we could just have a throwaway line that establishes the two planets as one and the same. I guess you could put it the crawl, although that might be rather clumsy. Then again, where wouldn’t it be clumsy?

When TFA was getting ready to come out, I thought Jakku was going to be revealed to the first order name for Tatooine. I don’t think it would be super hard to do. Perhaps just add in a few landmarks we know from the original desert planet.

Honestly, I loved the new crawl and opening you cooked up. Only thing I would change is working in more establishing shots of Mustafar as others have already done here. Keep up the great work!

EDIT RELEASED

PM me for links, if you’re interested.

Personal thoughts:
First of all, I came to hate the visual quality of the original ROTJ. I dislike most of the coloring, and how many things look oddly out of focus.
Regarding the edit itself, it’s not perfect, but I hope it’s at least enjoyable. Without a doubt it’s been the most challening edit of mine so far. There are many things I’m satisfied with, and some others I’m not.
I hope to get some feedback from you.

May I have a link, please? Looking forward to watching this edit ASAP. Thanks for all the time and effort. May the force be with you!

Any progress lately? Now after the events of TRoS, do you think you will change anything within this edit to make the trilogy more cohesive? Some have suggested the Dyad being mentioned in TFA so it is foreshadowed and isn’t so out of left field in TRoS. Anyways, I look forward to any future updates with this project. Loved the last version; keep up the great work!

Okay, honestly I’ve kinda had it with working on this scene, but whatever, here we go… So in this new attempt to extend Mustafar, I’ve taken on board your very kindly worded critisism and replaced the very low quality BBC documentry footage with more appropriate ash-ridden forest footage. I also rescored the scene and altered colours as well as keeping the TLJ deleted shot of Kylo.
In all seriousness, it’s either this or nothing. If you don’t like the look of this, then I say to either keep it as it as or open on Exogol. There has been talk of using RO footage, I think this isn’t the best idea as we should probably stray away from repeating the same footage between films. But hey, if Poppasketti can erase Krennic’s shuttle, then why not?

Anyway, here it is:
https://youtu.be/bVM5aOUbRdk
(Quality is low, I know)

I’m also working on the lightspeed skipping scene so keep a look out for that. 😉

EDIT:
Here is the lightspeed concept I mentioned earlier:

IGNORE THE BLACK BORDERS CHANGEING. It’s a mistake I just noticed. 😃

Awesome work man! I love the extension of these scene. However, I agree the last cutback to the forest I would remove. Keep up the great work and may the force be with you!

This youtube edit I found is a concept for what an Anakin and Ben force ghost on Tatooine could look like.
https://youtu.be/BlnRy7g--tU

Love it! Hope someone adds this for sure. However, a minor request would be for Ben and Anakin to be in lighter robes more similar to those of the Jedi. However, one could argue their darker robes reflect their darker past before returning to the light side of the force.

But no, it’s a somewhat awkward shot of the twin suns for the third time, and a reused piece of music from TFA.

Hmm, what if “Broom Boy” was removed from TLJ and made the last scene of TROS . . . ?

(For me this might be easier, since I’m planning a 3-film mashup anyhow.)

I don’t have a problem with the final scene besides the absence of Ben (needs to be added w/ Luke and Leia), but I definitely think the broom boy could be re-purposed as saga finale, especially in an edit where Rey is no longer a Palpatine. It would ring home anyone can be a Jedi in the final frames of the saga.

Test

This totally needs to happen in a fan edit. Love it! Plus I always wanted a little contrast between the sabers Rey uses together in the end of the film. Two blue sabers together was kind of bland in my opinion. Also it is good to see someone else with a purple saber beyond Mace.

Here’s my shitty proof of concept for extending Mustafar:

https://youtu.be/mrXKT4gguGc

Clearly you can see here that nothing really works with this clip as the video quality of the added shots is very poor as well as the added music.

I think you are on to something. Perhaps when Kylo uncovers the stone chest and grabs the wayfinder, instead of panning back to him holding it against the backdrop of the forest you can show an establishing shot of Vader’s castle from Rogue One instead. Just another link to him and his grandfather and shows the audience it is indeed Mustafar. You can make it look like he is in the interior of the castle retrieving the wayfinder instead of outside. Just an idea. Keep up the good work!

Here’s Boolio’s new dialogue which will be in Bocce with English subtitles:

Boolio: “The First Order’s super weapon— someone gave it to them.”
(Ha Wun Orr Da olanda reapon - Koo-dopi hokokeez yolats?)

Finn: “Who?”

Boolio: “I don’t know but it only fires once.” (Donnoj. Fooma wuntimax)

Finn: “How do we thank you?”

Boolio: “Shoot the Supreme Leader. Twice please.” (Zooto meesta fazkup. Dola bleeze. )

I like your change ideas, definitely helps follow up Kylo’s trajectory after The Last Jedi. However, I think this new dialogue exchange needs work. It sounds a little clunky like the prequels in my opinion. I look forward to seeing the final product. Let me know if I may be able to help. May the force be with you!

Speaking of what Palpatine wants, I also think Palpatine’s motivations need to be changed.

If Palpatine was Snoke, presumably, then Palpatine already knows that Kylo won’t kill Rey. And Kylo would also know that Palpatine knows that. If Palpatine as Snoke couldn’t get Kylo to kill her, then this guy Kylo just met definitely won’t. If Palpatine asked Kylo to bring Rey to him, it might be something more reasonable for him to ask. Then you could use Kylo’s masked dialogue to fill in that gap of why Palpatine wants him to bring Rey there. Maybe it is to kill her himself, maybe he tries to convince Kylo that he can help turn her to the dark side, or maybe he never tells him why and the truth is that he knows about the dyad and needs them both there to drain their power.

Whatever the reason, I think Kylo would look smarter if he knows it is probably a trap, and his goal is to find Rey and keep her from reaching Exegol, because he knows that is exactly what Palpatine wants.

EDIT: I suppose my motivation for this is that I still want to keep this idea that Kylo has overcome what Vader couldn’t to some extent. Vader was a pawn of the Emperor up until he threw him down that reactor shaft. I think Kylo Ren should stop being Palpatine’s pawn when he kills Snoke. So even though Palpatine is “alive”, Kylo sees past Palpatine’s machinations and tries to work against them. I think this would help keep Kylo’s character regressing too much from where we left him in TLJ.

Perhaps in the fanedit, you set up through the crawl that Snoke was one of Palpatine’s pawns or apprentices (Like Maul, Dooku and Vader) and now Kylo has destroyed his apprentice and impressed Palpatine. This way, Snoke isn’t a meat puppet and somewhat autonomous of Palpatine. You could still leave the line that Palpatine created Snoke, but now it is more metaphorical and just cut the vat of cloned Snokes. Also it solves the problem you were talking about, as Palpatine may not know exactly how Snoke was defeated in his throne room and Kylo’s conflicting feelings with Rey. It just seems a lot cleaner to me than Palpatine creating Snoke and literally controlling him.

Mentioning that Snoke is a pawn in the crawl is redundant. Simply cutting out the jar of Snokes would lead the viewer to assume such (give or take how they interpret “made”).

Perhaps, but I do not think it is clear at all in the original cut of the film what the dynamic is exactly between Snoke and Palpatine. I still don’t know if Palpatine was directly controlling him and he was simply a “meat puppet” or autonomous like the clones in the prequels. I feel like him being an apprentice would be a nice call back to the prequels too. It’s just an idea. However where you see redundancy, I see clarity.

Plus I think it helps solve the problem I have with Snoke bridging Kylo and Rey’s minds and then Palpatine being shocked they are a dyad in the force. Also why would Palpatine tell Kylo to kill Rey if he was witness to Kylo and Rey’s takedown of Snoke and his guards?

Also has anyone here seen the new SNL skit with Adam Driver reprising his role as Kylo? There are a few shots of a maskless Kylo with a goatee, but in full Kylo Ren garb. I was thinking through editing these could maybe be used as pick up shots in the beginning of the film and have Kylo telepathically commune with someone (Palpatine, Luke, Rey, Anakin, etc.) It just gives him another look and sells time passing/ maybe he looks a little unkempt as he is obsessed with finding Exegol/Palpatine. Just an idea, don’t know how feasible that would be with editing.

Stein, thanks for the list of ideas.

Some I like and agree with, some I’d have to see the movie again to assess, and others might still be worth experimenting with.

The dagger aligning with the wreckage goes along with Rey veering off to go get it and with 3PO specifying a precise approach vector. So it might have to stay as part of the Gordian knot.

I’d have to look again, but I’m not sure how one would remove Rey deflecting the emperor’s lightning at the end and have it make any sense.

I think implying or stating that the Sith fleet needs the Human Resources of the First Order would be awesome. Can it be done, I wonder?

Hey! I’m new here, but I’ve been admiring your work on fanedits for some time now. I was wondering if perhaps there could be a reference to the some of the Sith Eternal being clones? This would explain how they could amass such a force and would tie in nicely with the clones of Snoke (and potential Palpatine) on Exogal. Also it ties in with the prequels and Kylo’s line about a clone army in TFA. Just idea…I don’t know by some crazy trickery maybe you could put Jango’s clones in vats alongside Snoke (or maybe Palpatine clones).
