What does everyone think of other planets added to the falling Star Destroyer scene? Naboo, Coruscant, Utapau?

I definitely would love this if someone could execute it convincingly. I would say Coruscant is a must if we are doing one planet from each trilogy (Coruscant, Bespin or Endor and Jakku) as most have suggested. I’d also like to possible see Naboo, Kashyyyk, Corellia, etc.

Completely agree but isn’t that what we’re here to fix?

I feel Lando could have stood at Leias bedside and said something like “Goodnight sweet Princes, I love You!” Or something touching. Very easy scene to do in the circumstances.

There are amazingly talented people on here, including yourself, so I’ll never bet against any of you. However, we do have to work with what we have available to us for the most part. I think cutting Lando’s first introduction is not the way to go personally. If there was a way to project to the audience a little more when and how long he has been on Pasaana then I say go for it. However, Lando does serve a purpose of giving us some history of the planet, info on Luke and his travels post ROTJ and gives us info on Ochi and his purpose in the story. I can see this scene being cut for edits removing any mention of Ochi, the dagger and Rey being a Palpatine. However if not, I think the scene should remain. This is just my personal opinion…you guys do you. I appreciate all the hard work everyone has poured into this film and cannot wait to see the end results.

For what it is worth, I am not in favor of this change. I like the Lando introduction and his exchange about sending Leia his love. Sure it is overly nostalgic and perhaps interrupts the pacing a tad, but without this scene then Lando is definitely nothing more than a glorified cameo in my opinion.

It was the “send Leia my love” line that really annoyed me. They never followed it up. We never saw them together, yes Carrie died before filming but they had plenty of option to give us a heartfelt farewell with Lando by her deathbed. That would have been beautiful imo but now it feels a bit hollow.

I understand it ringing a little hollow on the backend of the film as Leia and Lando never get a moment together. However, that is indicative of this entire sequel trilogy; missed opportunities for OT characters to have meaningful interactions with each other. Even though in this case, with Carrie Fisher’s passing this would have been hard to pull off. I enjoyed the line as it was a nice tip of the hat to TESB and how smooth Lando was trying to be when they initially met and how antagonistic their relationship played out throughout that film till the end. This line to me shows that despite starting out as not trusting Lando and even thinking he was in it entirely for himself, they formed a lasting friendship and he became one of her most trusted friends (and vice versa). We missed so much between the OT and ST, lines like this help me film in the gaps between trilogies.

And I hadn’t really considered removing Lando but doing so makes sense and would make that middle chunk a little less cluttered. Any against?

The Clone Wars Arc Edits [OPINIONS NEEDED] (a WIP)
Time

How’s this coming along? I am super interested in seeing what you’ve been working on. The clone wars really redeemed the prequels in my opinion, but the sheer size of the series can be overwhelm for rewatching, especially if you are having a SW film marathon. I’d be super happy to have a few of the best arcs I can watch between episode II and III during my SW binge watching.

Maybe Palpatine’s plan was to have Vader meet his clone on Exogol had Luke killed him on DS2.

Would be interesting to have Vader know that Palpatine won’t die on the death star, it would certainly explain Vader’s change of tune from ESB where he planned on overthrowing him to ROTJ where he’s completely submissive to his rule.

I could imagine an alternate scenario where after Luke strikes down the Emperor, Vader tells him that he is still alive on Exogol and that they must find a way to destroy him once and for all.

Marvel is making a “What if…” animated series for Disney Plus with this concept. I’ve always hoped if it is successful, they would do the same thing to SW. What if you Qui Gon hadn’t died? What if Anakin had not have been burned on Mustafar? Etc."

Don’t get me wrong, I love Lando in this movie. The nostalgia is strong, I just wish there was more going on above Rey and Palpatine than what we got. ANH, RoTJ and RO space battles all had stakes and better pacing. As soon as the armada shows up, there is no more tension. The music just helps to cement the resistances winning is a forgone conclusion. Also as soon as Pryde’s ship is destroyed, it’s like the Sith Eternal and the FO just fall apart like a cheap suit. I don’t know if there is anything that can be done in editing to rectify this, besides removing the wide shot of the armada to reduce the unbelievably factor of that mass of ships assembling at one time. However, it just a concern I still have after seeing all this amazing work stitched together. If anyone could come up with something, I know it would be this super talented community we have here.

The easiest fix that would require hardly any work would be to cut Lando’s scene until after Uncle Palps is dead as well… then it would be more believable that they came at the last second and finished off the fleet… maybe

Yes, that is definitely the easiest fix. However, if Lando doesn’t arrive until after “the senate” dies then we lose Palpatine’s force lighting into the sky which might not be the worse thing since I still scratch my head as it how he didn’t lightening his own forces during this.

Kewlfish,

Thanks for putting this together. I just finished watching it. It’s nice to see all the contributions coming together into a fully formed ending.

I wish there is something more that could be done about the space battle/ “ground battle”. It just seems like there are no stakes at all and Lando’s arrival is so deus ex machina. Perhaps we could cut the wide shot of the armada’s arrival as it’s a bit overwhelming and so unconvincing that Lando rallied that many ships in so little time after no one answered the call one movie prior. Other than this, the ending is vastly improved from what we received theatrically. Thanks to all who have contributed; I’m excited to see the final product!

I was able to watch with the edited link above. I like the idea, but just listening on my computer without headphones most of the comm chatter is hard to make out over the swelling music. Perhaps you could tweak the audio slightly to make the dialogue a little more audible. However if it is an artistic choice, I think you’ve met your goal. It definitely helps sell more there are thousands of beings manning these ships regardless.

Seems like they have a new edition arriving in 5 hours… 🤞

It’s a cool concept if you can reconcile Ben and Rey being a couple after all the horrible things he has done. Anyways, the editor chose to go with “Rey Solo” and it definitely sounds clipped. I personally prefer Ben as a force ghost over this, but different strokes for different folks!

As the boy pulls the broom to him and begins sweeping, a voice crackles into a distant speaker. It is Poe, saying ‘We are not alone. What our mothers and fathers have fought for we will not let die. Today we make our last stand…for the galaxy!’ Many ships jump into hyperspace here, not just one.

Goosebumps.

Edit: Since Crait is now the opening of the film do you plan on including palpatines broadcast in there in some capacity? After the galaxie’s decline to help, hearing the broadcast could be what sets up the rallying of the people’s Fleet at the end of the film.

I integrated the Broadcast into the Crait sequence here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tUe4Nz4dKptm5UzcBu2QhX9N9FuaISoa/view?usp=sharing

It still may not be useful, but its definitely possible to integrate.

This is pretty cool, but I think another possible area to integrate it is when the resistance has already fled the base and Kylo is staring at the disappearing dice. The camera lingers on the radio equipment inside the makeshift base. You could have the broadcast play here at the end of TLJ and have TROS pick up with Kylo obsessed with finding Palpatine or the origin of the broadcast at the least.

The Starlight Project Part 2: The Last Jedi (WIP)
Time

I just read through this thread and really like the idea of making Holdo, one of the last surviving senior officers of the New Republic Fleet. This would help illuminate why Poe is perhaps at odds with her as the New Republic did not believe Leia’s warning of the threat of the FO to the galaxy until after it was too late. Once Leia (the founding member of the resistance) is incapacitated, her band of like minded followers is taken over by a “bureaucrat” who has already made the fatal mistake of underestimating the FO and is now hijacking the resistance in the name of the New Republic who got the galaxy into this mess in the first place.

Also if there is a way to insert that the resistance believes there is a FO spy onboard then I think it would lend more credibility to Poe/Holdo’s cat and mouse game with each other. Plus it would also pay off one film later when Hux is revealed to be a resistance spy in TROS kind of lending credence to their suspicions of a FO spy in this alter version of TLJ.

Nev,

I’ve read over your plans for the project starlight verison of The Rise of Skywalker and it seems quite ambitious. I am quite eager to see how you pull that endeavor off. However, at risk of sounding like a broken record I am eagerly awaiting an updated version of this TFA project. Do you think you will release a second version of this first or dive into editing your version of TROS first? I can’t wait to see the completed deleted scene of Kylo on the Falcon and your efforts to make Phasma a more formidable opponent for our heroes on Starkiller Base!

Here is another take on the crawl based off of Hal’s most recent draft. The Kimji scenes make it seem like the galaxy has no hope. Poe’s rally speech makes it seem like this is the one chance for everyone to band together. So why make it seem like they have already done so in the crawl? It makes Lando’s arrival have more impact later.

EPISODE IX
THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

Countless systems have been enslaved
by the dreaded FIRST ORDER. Fear is
everywhere, hope is fading.

General Leia Organa, troubled by
visions of an unseen threat, has
dispatched her brave agents to
investigate. While Rey, the last hope
of the JEDI, continues her training.

Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren
scours the galaxy, chasing whispers
of a hidden power that would allow
him to destroy any challenge
to his rule…

I agree with your assessment and like the new crawl you came up with. There needs to be a sense of dread and the audience needs to think the the deck is stacked against the resistance. Also it helps explain why no help came for Leia and the dwindling forces on Crait.

Yeah, I don’t like the idea of making Ajan Kloss Naboo either. The Rebellion/Resistance has never had a base on a highly populated planet. After they realize the emperor has returned, it should give them some pause that they’re literally hiding out on his homeworld.

Not to mention Leia has already seen her peaceful homeworld destroyed. I doubt she would want to endanger her mother’s as well.

Kewlfish, I personally think that video you posted with the repurposed battlefront cinematics doesn’t seem too jarring too me. It’s such a brief snippet that I don’t think your average viewer would even notice it’s rendered from a video game. I mean it certainly is up to par with the CGI clones of the prequel films.

Jonh, I was going to ask you, but are the only shots where Luke wears are wig the parts where he says “I was wrong…” “What are you most afraid of…” and “Because you’re a Palpatine” Is that correct?

in the shots where he’s sitting too😅😅(f_cking wig) and:a thousand generations live in you now, too
and he is 5 kg fatter hahahah

Luke has definitely been eating well in the afterlife. Hamill lost all that weight for a minute of screen time in TFA and maintained it through TLJ. I guess by the time of TRoS, he just said screw it.

Hello There! here is an unfinished test to place the battle of Mustafar in TLJ, I have an idea behind my head with the voice of Vader, so that he guides Kylo to him to link the line “finish what you started” with the he story of Palpatine pulling the strings, to me it is more important that this revelation is made just after the death of Luke.

I believe I will make you an alt version to place at the start of IX

Just an idea that came to me recently, I don’t know how feasible it is; brought it up recently in another thread. However, I was thinking if someone took the clip of Kylo suggesting a clone army in TFA and re-purpose the line to him saying “a clone” when encountering Palaptine. I know his voice is modulated in TFA and he is maskless in TRoS so it may not work. If someone could clean it up, it could make Kylo seem more intuitive and help explain further in the film that the Palapatine we encounter in TRoS is indeed a clone. Also it would pair well with Palaptine’s deleted line in response “more than a clone, less than a man.”

Definitely a missed opportunity. I wouldn’t mind in the future for Daisy and John to reprise their roles in a Disney Plus show or mini series with Rey reforming the Jedi Order and Finn being her first student.

Both Daisy and John have said “You ain’t gonna Disney+ me!”

I’ve read the interviews, but I feel they may be singing different tunes if their careers don’t have quite the upward trajectory they are hoping for. I think Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver are going to continue to go on and be involved with bigger projects and be potential leading men. I don’t know if Daisy or John are going to be able to carry a movie by themselves, but time will tell.
