Keeping an eye on V2 of this edit, it sounds very interesting to me. Hope to see the fruits of your labor soon!

I just got done watching this edit and overall I am very impressed. Some tweaks in the Jabba’s palace took getting use to, especially the loss of the Chewie and Boushh (Leia) scene and not seeing the demise of the Oola. However, I understand why these cuts were made to streamline the beginning and to make the Han’s rescue less convoluted. I like what you did with Boba Fett; less cartoonish demise, but can still be viewed with the Book of Boba Fett and not break new canon. Also the arrival of the Emperor in the beginning made sense and progresses the plot along nicely. Another thing I liked is keeping a small piece of the musical number from the SE in the palace, without going overboard.
Other choices I enjoyed was eliminating Han’s jealousy towards Luke. The new matte backgrounds in a few places (though to this day I wish someone would remove that dated matte background during Han and Lando’s farewell before the strike team leaves in the shuttle). I enjoyed Leia and Wickett’s mini adventure being cut and a lot of the Ewok’s more childish antics. I do wish some traps had of been left in like the two logs that crush the AT-ST, but overall it worked. I also like some of the effects added in the space battle and the removal of the blue tint of the throne room. Most of the new music worked for me too, which I was cautious about going into the edit. Overall, I believe this may be my go to cut of Return of the Jedi for the next few years until Adywan’s version releases. Amazing jobs; thank you!
PS: Why was Naboo removed at the end? My thought was you only wanted to leave places we saw in the OT, but then Coruscant was left in. Simply curious…
When you do intergrate the edited opening into the rest of the film, I’d love to have a copy. If you can add the German subtitles back in that be a bonus!
So I just finished watching the updated Book Four…Bravo! This is my favorite book so far and I loved how you reworked the scene in the imperial commissary where Din no longer removes his helmet. The payoff of removing Din’s face reveal till the parting of him and Grogu on the imperial cruiser definetly worked for me…chef’s kiss!
I believe you used the updated deapfake of Luke’s face in the conclusion too and while it looks a little devoid of movement, I think it really sells it is “Mark Hamill” as Luke again. The Book of Boba Fett scenes vastly improved so I do not think they need touch up down the road. Overall, awesome job and you deserve all the flowers…this series is awesome; can’t wait for the revised book five.
One minor continuity issue I may have noticed is during the battle of Tython there is one transport ship shown landing around the 46 minute mark, then we see through the scope there are two transport ships at 46:38 ish then at 47:30 another transport ship lands and drops off more troops, but there only appears to be two ships total and Boba Fett takes out only two later. So by the edit I believe it would imply three ships total, but one is unaccounted for by the end. It could be implied one took off during the battle off screen, but I thought it was worth mentioning as I know you heavily edited the scene to fix the student film quality directing of the original which worked for me btw!
Does anyone have an HD version of L8wrtr’s Phantom Menace edit I can have? I tried reaching out on another site to L8wrtr, but have not gotten a response back yet. I have only been able to find DVD quality up to this point. Thanks to anyone who can provide it to me!
I’d love the Episode V canon audio file and the upscale of Episode IV when you have a moment. Thanks!
Hey Hal, I was listening to your commentary for this edit and you mention the removal of Jabba from the podrace scenes due to the world shrinking nature of the prequels. However, he seems to be left in the HD version I am watching. Was there an edit before where you removed him and if so what was your reason for reinserting him the final edit? Love your edits and hearing your commentary, I was just curious as the commentary does not seem to match what is on screen in this instance.
May I get a link to this edit; V2 if possible? Thanks and may the force be with you!
May I have a link to these edits; possibly V2? Thanks and may the force be with you!
Hey Acbagel,
I went back and checked regarding my previous comments in regards to continuity. I believe I was referring to the end of Book Two where Boba is talking to Fennec about how you can only gets so far without a tribe by the fire (2:25). His robs are acid burned, but he does not visit the sarlac pit to retrieve his armor and get the acid burns on his cloak until book three (0:25). Not a big deal, but just wanted to point it out.
In terms of Moff Giedon’s facial hair I was say I was prepared for it to be jarring since his look is different in season two and season three. I went back and watched the new book three for a second time and I can so those fears are unfounded. You did a great job with the face. I just wasn’t a 100% sure you had tinkered with it since the hologram scene is not 100% clear image of his face and the stinger is a long shot from far away. Also it has been some time since I watched the original presentation of those scenes. Look forward to book four!
Also, I think I am for extending the Fennec being shot scene and keeping the Greef/ Mando conflict scene. I think it is important to see his change of heart and while I know many do not like the sequels, I think it helps reinforce force heal in the universe as we see both Grogu and Rey use it more than once. I would trim the Mando head injury if one needs to be cut as I feel without the helmet removal included, the scene is not that important and he is back with the gang only like a minute later so that gets my vote for the trim.
Duplicate Post
One thing that struck me in a weird way was how Fennec was handled in Book 2. We never see how that wannabe Bounty Hunter gets the Information on Mando, so this could be a bit of a leap for a first time viewer.
Yeah, him gunning her down and getting the info on Mando is not something I would be opposed to being reinserted into Book 2. I went with it because I have seen the original show though, but it could be a bit of a head scratcher for someone who is watching the series for the first time with fresh eyes.
I finished the revised book three recently and I do love what you have done with it! The standout scenes in my opinion is Boba being responsible for the speederbike crash of Din’s when he is carry his armor back to town. I also like the end montage from the introduction of the shadow council scene from season three, to the brief scene borrowed from season three with the mandos amassing their fleet and finally Boba with his “tribe” and Din with his “tribe”. You have done a great job. Cannot wait till the updated book four!
Minor Note: I was a bit concerned about continuity issue as you have moved scenes around from different scenes. The Moff Gideon scene was the biggest concern, especially how close the hologram scene is during the mando heist on the cargo ship and the shadow council scene and the stinger at the end of the moff overlooking his dark troopers (regarding is his facial hair appearing, disappearing and reappearing). However, I think it works as the hologram is not very clear, then you have the shadow council scene, then you have a long shot of him admiring the dark troopers. Only other minor continuity scene I believe I found, but I could be mistaken is moving Boba’s scenes around his cloak is burned by the acid in some earlier scenes now that are moved around before he visits the sarlacc, but overall it is not too noticeable. I do love this series and look forward to seeing how you save the modern day Boba Fett scenes and season three of mando. Keep up the great work and may the force be with you!
Watched the revised Book One and Book Two over the weekend and you really have outdone yourself! The ending to Book Two is so satisfying. I can’t wait to get the rest of the revised books and to see the conclusion of season three of Mando in this series. Keep up the amazing work!
So happy to hear an updated Book 2 is releasing tomorrow! I just finished the revised Book 1 a few minutes ago and I absolutely loved it, so perfect timing. I’m interested to see the changelist from the previous version of Book 2 to now. Thanks for all you do and may the force be with you! (Please send a link when you can)
I held off watching the series so far due to the mixed to poor reviews I have heard of it. I do greatly enjoy the original trilogy and I am pretty mixed on the Hobbit Trilogy. However, I would love to give your film a shot. May I have a link please? Thanks!
May I have a link to your GoT films when you have a moment? Thanks!
Apologies if these has been touched upon before, but I have an older copy of this edit with Vader, Palpatine and Tarkin looking over Coruscant at the conclusion of the film instead of the fledgling Death Star. I enjoyed this choice, so I was just wondering when it reverted back to the Death Star over Coruscant and the reasoning behind the change. Love your edits Hal, just curious.
What are your other ideas beyond the editing of the intro to improve the theatrical release? Too bad there are no deleted scene I am aware of that have been released beyond the cut scene from the trailer.
I enjoyed the link you sent me to the opening adventure in 1944. The changing of Indy’s voice makes all the difference in the world and really helps sell the illusion we are watch a younger Harrison Ford play Indy on the big screen again. Why they did not change the voice to a younger Ford in the theatrical release with all the money at their disposal I will never know.
One thing that did not work for me was the removal of the subtitles for the German soldiers. There is a good bit of coversation in the opening in German and while we can surmise the gist of the conversation, I believe these should be reinserted. Overall, nice job and I look forward to seeing how the final cut turns out!
Any update on this project? I liked your change list. I hope it is still in the works!
May I please have a link to this edit; it sounds great!
Hal, I understand. I have dabbled in the past with some minor editing so I may see if I can give it a shot. I was just making sure there was not a version that already existed before trying my hand at it. Thanks for the quick reply; love all your work!
I personally do like that AI produced conversation between Luke and Kylo. It definetly helps tie TLJ together with this film as that thread of “see you around kid” is never followed up on. It would be some nice connective tissue and is pretty quick and seem to be possibly seamless with some minor touch up. Just my two cents; the AI voice stuff has really come along way in just a year or so…it is impressive in my opinion.
I am looking for a link to Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side - An Attack of the Clones Fanedit by DsqrD Studio. I messaged the original creator a few weeks ago and have not gotten a response. If anyone has the link it would be appreciated. Thanks and may the force be with you!
