Does anyone here have an interest in making Snoke out to be an apprentice of some sort of Palpatine? Since the vat of his clones have been replaced, I think it could work, but it would also result in the removal of his line, “you have ever heard.”

I have been an advocate of this for awhile. I think it is cleaner and harkens back to the PT and OT of Palpatine always having an apprentice, but always looking for a stronger and often younger one. Also, I think you could imply Snoke maybe is withholding info from Palpatine and possibly thinks he could supplant him in his weaken state especially with the FO and Kylo Ren as his ally. The reconning between TLJ and TRoS has made for a murky grey area of how much Palpatine knew and controlled Snoke. Sheev seems genuinely surprised Kylo and Rey are a dyad in the force, yet Snoke says he bridged their minds and seems to have a better grasp of their force link then “The Senate”.

Just seeking some clarification after watching the newest workprint (which is exceptional). Is there still a plan for Ben to be incorporated as a force ghost with Luke and Leia at the end of the film? I think this is an absolute must in my opinion. I had already seen a few mockups on youtube with him inserted. Is anyone in particular working on this or willing to take it up? I wish I had the skills to pull off such an endeavor, but no doubt in my mind the talent on here can pull if off for sure! Keep up the great work everyone and thanks for everything Hal.

I thought that too!

And it could be another way to show Hux is losing his influence within the First Order. Clearly he is not as important as he was in the previous films, and if his army is becoming less important, then we have a more tangible reason why Pryde’s political influence is outgrowing Hux’s.

RogueLeader,

I am still holding out hope someone will implement this idea. I agree it ties into the prequels and TFA line nicely. It also helps explain how they had enough manpower to control the fleet. Finally, I believe it helps reinforce the fact that Palpatine is a clone in this film which is quite murky in the theatrical release.

Oh yeah, and if anyone so inclined wishes to add a distant Vader’s castle to the reverse shot when Kylo picks up and looks at the Wayfinder, I won’t try to stop you.

However cool that would be, it’s not necessary, and I’m happy merely to namedrop Mustafar in the crawl. That’s enough to tie it into Vader and make sense why there were two: one for the master and one for the apprentice.

I know it is minor, but I would love if someone could insert Vader’s castle into the background of this shot too!

So just to add my two cents, I am fine with option A or B of the lightspeed skip presented. However, B is growing on me as it is sort of cool to present an “adventure” that happen off screen. My mind helps fill in the blanks of the Falcon occurring damage in a dogfight in their off-screen pursuit, hence the flames when Poe and the gang return to base. Also I am all for the removal of “Ghouls”. The audio isn’t clean and I cringe every time I hear it. Although it isn’t a hill I’m willing to die on if it doesn’t bother others.

To chime in on a few things discussed here lately, first all I think Ben’s force ghost is required at the end. I liked the idea of one planet from each trilogy, but the addition of Corellia would be cool since it represents the SW Stories films. However, I am more than willing to have Naboo added even if it messes with the symmetry of one film per “series”.

One last thing I would like to add, it perhaps we could have some variety of ships destroyed over the planets. Presenting four star destroyers in a row falling seems a little plain jane to me. Perhaps someone could add a dreadnought or tie fighters or even resistance ships, maybe even the new starhawk.

Here’s a test for the Sith whisper thing. At least the first chunk of it. It’s unfortunately a little cramped since there’s no extra footage to work with and the arrival of the riders comes up suddenly.

It is simple, but I like it. Anything that helps eliminate the problematic “Goonies” macguffin is never a bad thing.

Here’s Luuke (impersonating Luke) on Ach To, no longer referencing Leia having known the secret. He just calls Rey out on it, like “So what? You’re still you.”

I added a shot right after Luke sits down so Rey can be seen (sort of) turning her head, so let me know if you feel that works.

I think this is a very welcome change for a Rey Palpatine version of the edit.

Honestly, I cannot even tell this is not the theatrical cut of the film. That is how seamless this edit is…bravo Hal!

Making my way through the work print during my lunch break. A few things I’ve noticed so far that I believe could be tweaked. Some have already been mentioned:

  • I’m an advocate of the “Mustafar Minute” being added I the beginning if possible

  • Perhaps the removal of Palaptine’s “Kill the girl” line. His plans for Kylo and Rey are somewhat muddled in this film

  • Removal of Klaud (could someone just put a digital door in the background in the cockpit to paint him out)

  • I could go either way with Boolio being dubbed over in an alien language

  • Perhaps the removal of the light speed skipping combo

  • Please remove the stormtrooper convo about the knights of Ren (at least the secondary troopers reply back)

  • Please remove “they fly now”

  • Please remove the flashlight gag or at least the sound when Poe activated it

  • I’m down for the trimming of Kylo’s tie fighter exploding

  • If we could make a shot of ochi’s ship leaving the planet after the transport explosion that be awesome; seems like Kylo would pursue Rey woo unless she was a further distance away

  • I’d cut “I’d like to see your brains in the show”

  • I’d probably add some Knights of Ren dialogue as suggested

That’s it for now; overall I really am enjoying it. Just think we could trim some of the minor fat still left

Coruscant End Celebration
pw: fanedit

The incredible backplate was made by jonh, and I comped in the ships and added a bit of texture.

This is awesome! Love the idea of having a planet from each trilogy. Minor suggestion, I think it be cool if the planets that appear are in sequence of their respective trilogy chronologically: Coruscant, Bespin and Jakku. Either way you go, love this addition to the ending.

What does everyone think of other planets added to the falling Star Destroyer scene? Naboo, Coruscant, Utapau?

I definitely would love this if someone could execute it convincingly. I would say Coruscant is a must if we are doing one planet from each trilogy (Coruscant, Bespin or Endor and Jakku) as most have suggested. I’d also like to possible see Naboo, Kashyyyk, Corellia, etc.

Completely agree but isn’t that what we’re here to fix?

I feel Lando could have stood at Leias bedside and said something like “Goodnight sweet Princes, I love You!” Or something touching. Very easy scene to do in the circumstances.

There are amazingly talented people on here, including yourself, so I’ll never bet against any of you. However, we do have to work with what we have available to us for the most part. I think cutting Lando’s first introduction is not the way to go personally. If there was a way to project to the audience a little more when and how long he has been on Pasaana then I say go for it. However, Lando does serve a purpose of giving us some history of the planet, info on Luke and his travels post ROTJ and gives us info on Ochi and his purpose in the story. I can see this scene being cut for edits removing any mention of Ochi, the dagger and Rey being a Palpatine. However if not, I think the scene should remain. This is just my personal opinion…you guys do you. I appreciate all the hard work everyone has poured into this film and cannot wait to see the end results.

For what it is worth, I am not in favor of this change. I like the Lando introduction and his exchange about sending Leia his love. Sure it is overly nostalgic and perhaps interrupts the pacing a tad, but without this scene then Lando is definitely nothing more than a glorified cameo in my opinion.

It was the “send Leia my love” line that really annoyed me. They never followed it up. We never saw them together, yes Carrie died before filming but they had plenty of option to give us a heartfelt farewell with Lando by her deathbed. That would have been beautiful imo but now it feels a bit hollow.

I understand it ringing a little hollow on the backend of the film as Leia and Lando never get a moment together. However, that is indicative of this entire sequel trilogy; missed opportunities for OT characters to have meaningful interactions with each other. Even though in this case, with Carrie Fisher’s passing this would have been hard to pull off. I enjoyed the line as it was a nice tip of the hat to TESB and how smooth Lando was trying to be when they initially met and how antagonistic their relationship played out throughout that film till the end. This line to me shows that despite starting out as not trusting Lando and even thinking he was in it entirely for himself, they formed a lasting friendship and he became one of her most trusted friends (and vice versa). We missed so much between the OT and ST, lines like this help me film in the gaps between trilogies.

And I hadn’t really considered removing Lando but doing so makes sense and would make that middle chunk a little less cluttered. Any against?

The Clone Wars Arc Edits [OPINIONS NEEDED] (a WIP)

How’s this coming along? I am super interested in seeing what you’ve been working on. The clone wars really redeemed the prequels in my opinion, but the sheer size of the series can be overwhelm for rewatching, especially if you are having a SW film marathon. I’d be super happy to have a few of the best arcs I can watch between episode II and III during my SW binge watching.

Maybe Palpatine’s plan was to have Vader meet his clone on Exogol had Luke killed him on DS2.

Would be interesting to have Vader know that Palpatine won’t die on the death star, it would certainly explain Vader’s change of tune from ESB where he planned on overthrowing him to ROTJ where he’s completely submissive to his rule.

I could imagine an alternate scenario where after Luke strikes down the Emperor, Vader tells him that he is still alive on Exogol and that they must find a way to destroy him once and for all.

Marvel is making a “What if…” animated series for Disney Plus with this concept. I’ve always hoped if it is successful, they would do the same thing to SW. What if you Qui Gon hadn’t died? What if Anakin had not have been burned on Mustafar? Etc."

Don’t get me wrong, I love Lando in this movie. The nostalgia is strong, I just wish there was more going on above Rey and Palpatine than what we got. ANH, RoTJ and RO space battles all had stakes and better pacing. As soon as the armada shows up, there is no more tension. The music just helps to cement the resistances winning is a forgone conclusion. Also as soon as Pryde’s ship is destroyed, it’s like the Sith Eternal and the FO just fall apart like a cheap suit. I don’t know if there is anything that can be done in editing to rectify this, besides removing the wide shot of the armada to reduce the unbelievably factor of that mass of ships assembling at one time. However, it just a concern I still have after seeing all this amazing work stitched together. If anyone could come up with something, I know it would be this super talented community we have here.

The easiest fix that would require hardly any work would be to cut Lando’s scene until after Uncle Palps is dead as well… then it would be more believable that they came at the last second and finished off the fleet… maybe

Yes, that is definitely the easiest fix. However, if Lando doesn’t arrive until after “the senate” dies then we lose Palpatine’s force lighting into the sky which might not be the worse thing since I still scratch my head as it how he didn’t lightening his own forces during this.

Kewlfish,

Thanks for putting this together. I just finished watching it. It’s nice to see all the contributions coming together into a fully formed ending.

I wish there is something more that could be done about the space battle/ “ground battle”. It just seems like there are no stakes at all and Lando’s arrival is so deus ex machina. Perhaps we could cut the wide shot of the armada’s arrival as it’s a bit overwhelming and so unconvincing that Lando rallied that many ships in so little time after no one answered the call one movie prior. Other than this, the ending is vastly improved from what we received theatrically. Thanks to all who have contributed; I’m excited to see the final product!

I was able to watch with the edited link above. I like the idea, but just listening on my computer without headphones most of the comm chatter is hard to make out over the swelling music. Perhaps you could tweak the audio slightly to make the dialogue a little more audible. However if it is an artistic choice, I think you’ve met your goal. It definitely helps sell more there are thousands of beings manning these ships regardless.

It’s a cool concept if you can reconcile Ben and Rey being a couple after all the horrible things he has done. Anyways, the editor chose to go with “Rey Solo” and it definitely sounds clipped. I personally prefer Ben as a force ghost over this, but different strokes for different folks!

As the boy pulls the broom to him and begins sweeping, a voice crackles into a distant speaker. It is Poe, saying ‘We are not alone. What our mothers and fathers have fought for we will not let die. Today we make our last stand…for the galaxy!’ Many ships jump into hyperspace here, not just one.

Goosebumps.

Edit: Since Crait is now the opening of the film do you plan on including palpatines broadcast in there in some capacity? After the galaxie’s decline to help, hearing the broadcast could be what sets up the rallying of the people’s Fleet at the end of the film.

I integrated the Broadcast into the Crait sequence here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tUe4Nz4dKptm5UzcBu2QhX9N9FuaISoa/view?usp=sharing

It still may not be useful, but its definitely possible to integrate.

This is pretty cool, but I think another possible area to integrate it is when the resistance has already fled the base and Kylo is staring at the disappearing dice. The camera lingers on the radio equipment inside the makeshift base. You could have the broadcast play here at the end of TLJ and have TROS pick up with Kylo obsessed with finding Palpatine or the origin of the broadcast at the least.
