STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

I’m just glad to know I am not the only one that found that matte background kind of wonky during Han and Lando’s dialogue exchange. Diverging a bit, but has Ady ever indicated how the Boba “death” may be altered or if his fate in Book of Boba Fett would be taking into consideration moving forward with this edit? I know that series was not the most popular and I never liked how Boba’s “downfall” was handled in RotJ. I just don’t know if there is happy medium where his “demise” in RotJ can be fixed, but he still ends up emerging from the sarlacc like in the beginning of that show.

I like what you are doing with Boba, trying to integrate him into season three. The audio exchange isn’t completely there yet, but I definetly see what you are going for. I think less may be more. It seems a little too wordy as I know you are trying to sell the new plot through dialogue and insert in some legend’s material. Also, I would let the subtitles for the mando language stay on screen for slighly longer, they are a bit abrupt.

“Sorry, I can’t join you (just) yet. The Hutts are (already) showing interest in my territory. But I will be there when you need me.”

"Check again for a ping from Skywalker('s acedemy on Ossus).

Honestly, my number one ask is to replace that matte painting shot when Han is departing with the strike team and talking to Lando with the falcon in the background. It is the most obvious matte shot in the entire saga in my opinion. I am still shocked Lucas didn’t tinker with it during the special edition. Especially in HD it always stands out to me like a sore thumb to me.

The addition of the Ghost is really a nice nod. However, I don’t know if Ady would consider this as I do not think he is including additions outside of OG trilogy now. I think the battle droid easter egg from the sandcrawler in ANH is going to be removed for the HD release too. I would love for the Ghost to be included though if possible.

Seems you are hard at work and have a roadmap laid out for the final book at least until the Mandalorian movie comes out now in 2026. I am eager to see the conclusion as Season Three of this show combine with the Book of Boba Fett are the original source material I had the most issue with like many others. The prolonged Grogu/ Din reunion and Boba Fett being semi involved in the final season of The Mandalorian will definetly make this my go to version for rewatches. Also a dedication to Carl Weathers at the end would be a nice touch!

Do you take any stock in the fact that Giancarlo Esposito recently floated his idea to return again as the clean shaven Gideon who met his demise is a clone theory. I’d rather him stay dead at this point. It is like if they had brought back Captain Phasma for TRoS. I think we would be entering into the “you killed Kenny” territory.

Yes, you’re correct. The only reason why I have a problem with the concept is that it would have made more sense to launch like 10+ of them at that time - there are literally hundreds of them there (perhaps in the thousands) and it’s not like all of them were fixed overnight. They could have launched a small batallion and threatened to destroy key worlds like Coruscant if people tried to stop the rest.

And the fact you have Palpatine announcing his intentions to the entire galaxy prematurely when a single Star Destroyer is ready to go. He has been waiting 30 plus years to rebuild this armada and he jumps the gun when he could have just waited a few days, weeks or months to have the entire fleet ready. However, that is an issue with the story overall. It just makes the normally cunning tactician seem inept.

Very good.

I’m not sure about the back shot of BoKatan right before he asks if it should be hers. Otherwise, the pacing of the lines with the visuals is great.

I agree. It really comes together when you see it paired with the visuals. However, I did think the backshot of Bo stood out slightly, but it is not a hill I would die on. Overall, you making Book of Boba Fett and Mando season three worth watching is truly…wizard!

I think it sounds pretty good, but reserve judgment until seeing it with visuals which I know you say is coming. Din does sound like he has slipped an ambien sometimes, but I just think that is how his character comes across especially with a modulated voice. I think it is just more apparent in this monologue because normally he is a man of few words so such a long speech may take a little getting use to.

Wish AI could be given some prompt to put more inflection into the voice based on mood. However, I am still in awe of how far the tech has come in just a year. Really looking forward to this final book. Thanks for putting in all the hard work acbagel.

I liked the idea of Din’s exchange with Fennec, but will the final cut do more to mimic the actor’s lips when delievering new AI line? The reason I ask is because it is obvious in some places Fennec’s mouth is not moving when the new AI lines are delivered to Din.

PS: I like Dimitrios’ lore reasoning behind both sects of Mandalorians compromising a bit for a unfied Mandalore.

Look in my eyes, what do you see? A cult of…

Sorry, I actually like this idea a lot and adds more weight to her taking the mythosaur pauldron as well. I too was not happy with the writing in season three with it feeling like the armorer (possible turncoat) was setting Bo up for failure, only to never pay off on that. I do question how the armorer knows for sure if Bo saw the mythical creature or not by just looking into her eyes though. Overall though, I cannot wait to see what everything looks like polished. You are doing a great job; keep up the amazing work!

I personally vote for an endgame style epic conclusion and go with a three hour book six. It will feel anti-climatic I believe the other way and Din without Grogu for all of book five is gold. I love the new scene previews enhanced with AI and I believe they mostly work as is. The imperial theme playing while the box is opened could be axed in my opinion. I really like the world building of the Moff Gideon news reel Dr. Perishing is listening to. The AI use for the armorer mostly works and I honestly could not even tell you what was edited in the droid bar scene as I believe I have only seen most of season three once (perhaps saying to turn the music back on).

Like others have said, I think with season four in the distant future and a season two of the Book of Boba Fett unlikely you go for a three hour epic for the conclusion of this series. It can always be reassessed in the future if you want to incorporate the upcoming film into this series. Ultimately, this is your baby and I trust your decision, but that is the way I believe I would wrap it up. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Acbagel, I am excited to see what you are cooking up. I love this series and your passion! I expect the final product to be nothing short of spectacular.

Interested to see how the removal of the mod & krrsantan recruitments goes. I did not have an issue with them in your last edit. It was just how the water monger’s complaint lead to the recruitment of the wookie that seemed a bit of a logical leap. Also, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Hutt Twins intro in the show as it lead ultimately to a nothing burger in the original serries, so I will be interested to see how their intergration in this edit has meaning.

So I just finished watching the updated Book Five and enjoyed it overall. The repurposing of Boba’s spirit vision into a bacta tank dream montage was clever, as well as the stinger of Bib Fortuna’s death. I really thought Boba’s authority and overall goals worked so much better in this edit than the original source material. I liked how you minimized the Mods and Freetown folks presence throughout. Gone is the power ranger eque street bike “chase” that looked like it was in slo-mo and the cringey fighting sequences of the freetown folk extras.

I did spot a continuity error around the 1:35 mark (I believe) as the mayor’s Twi’lek envoy appears in Garsa Fwip’s bombed out business, yet his appearance in the scenes leading up to this have been removed. Also while the AI lines worked well, the water monger having an issue with Krrsantan was little bit of a logical leap, but I guess it could be chalked up to him being an overall troublemaker as he lacks any purpose or a job so he is taking it out on places of business.

I also liked the music used at the end, when Luke trains Grogu and speaks to Ahsoka. However, I belive it may need to be dialed down a notch as it drowns out the dialogue a bit. In closing, great edition to the series and I commend you as I believe adapting the Book of Boba Fett “modern day” material was a daunting task. It is not my favorite book of the series, but makes those “modern day” Boba scenes much more tolerable and saves Boba from being a shell of his former self. Great job; looking forward to Book Six in the coming days (weeks)!

I do really like the “Ben, come home” line. It is subtle, but I think works and shows Leia despite all of “Kylo’s atrocities” still thinks her son can be redeemed. Something her husband literally laid his life down for as well. I think it is poetic and rhymes as Lucas would say. Also is mirrors Anakin’s redemption, both being too late to actually make amends for their trangressions due to the death of themselves or the ones that they love. Something very tragic in that.

Just my two cents, but AI has come such a long way in such a short time. Truly impressive work, Jar Jar Bricks! Ultimately this is Hal’s baby though and this edit has already given me much more love for an intially lackluster trilogy ending film than I thought possible so I will defer to Hal’s judgment in this home stretch.

PS: I still would love the inclusion of the Kylo/ Luke convo proposed in this edit to pay off TLJ “See you around, kid” line.

Yes, the passing of Carl Weather will be hard to predict how the series pivots with Grief Karga being written out of the series, but remaining out there in universe like Cara Dune or if they will actually say he passed away in story as well.

I like EddieDeans structure proposal and I am eager to see how it plays out. I do need to go back and watch your original book five when I have a moment as it has been a minute. I am all for extending the Grogu and Din separation as much as possible, as Jon Faverau said in an interview I believe they were supposed to be apart for three years and honestly it does not even feel like three weeks in the original show.

As for trying to make Boba part of the retaking of Mandalore. I believe there are a few directions you may be able to go with the use of AI or depending on your/ this community’s editing skills with visual inserts as well. I know Jar Jar Bricks is amazing with AI.

You may want to connect with one another, as I think you could maybe use Din in his ship (helmet on obviously) conversing with Boba over the ship’s speaker using an AI convo for both men. You could have Boba saying he can’t make it unfortunately as he has his own problems putting down a gang war in his newly won territory on Tatooine (adding a mini hologram of Boba with helmet on would be even more ideal; think Palpatine during order 66 scenes with Plo Koon). Another more ambitious approach would be adding the Slave I to the fleet the amasses during season three to retake mandalore. The ship with a few Boba lines could really sell he is there helping. However, this may be out of the scope of your project, but I know it could be pulled off with the skills of people within this community. Just my two cents, let me know what you think!

Return of the Jedi Renewed (released)
Time

I just got done watching this edit and overall I am very impressed. Some tweaks in the Jabba’s palace took getting use to, especially the loss of the Chewie and Boushh (Leia) scene and not seeing the demise of the Oola. However, I understand why these cuts were made to streamline the beginning and to make the Han’s rescue less convoluted. I like what you did with Boba Fett; less cartoonish demise, but can still be viewed with the Book of Boba Fett and not break new canon. Also the arrival of the Emperor in the beginning made sense and progresses the plot along nicely. Another thing I liked is keeping a small piece of the musical number from the SE in the palace, without going overboard.

Other choices I enjoyed was eliminating Han’s jealousy towards Luke. The new matte backgrounds in a few places (though to this day I wish someone would remove that dated matte background during Han and Lando’s farewell before the strike team leaves in the shuttle). I enjoyed Leia and Wickett’s mini adventure being cut and a lot of the Ewok’s more childish antics. I do wish some traps had of been left in like the two logs that crush the AT-ST, but overall it worked. I also like some of the effects added in the space battle and the removal of the blue tint of the throne room. Most of the new music worked for me too, which I was cautious about going into the edit. Overall, I believe this may be my go to cut of Return of the Jedi for the next few years until Adywan’s version releases. Amazing jobs; thank you!

PS: Why was Naboo removed at the end? My thought was you only wanted to leave places we saw in the OT, but then Coruscant was left in. Simply curious…

So I just finished watching the updated Book Four…Bravo! This is my favorite book so far and I loved how you reworked the scene in the imperial commissary where Din no longer removes his helmet. The payoff of removing Din’s face reveal till the parting of him and Grogu on the imperial cruiser definetly worked for me…chef’s kiss!

I believe you used the updated deapfake of Luke’s face in the conclusion too and while it looks a little devoid of movement, I think it really sells it is “Mark Hamill” as Luke again. The Book of Boba Fett scenes vastly improved so I do not think they need touch up down the road. Overall, awesome job and you deserve all the flowers…this series is awesome; can’t wait for the revised book five.

One minor continuity issue I may have noticed is during the battle of Tython there is one transport ship shown landing around the 46 minute mark, then we see through the scope there are two transport ships at 46:38 ish then at 47:30 another transport ship lands and drops off more troops, but there only appears to be two ships total and Boba Fett takes out only two later. So by the edit I believe it would imply three ships total, but one is unaccounted for by the end. It could be implied one took off during the battle off screen, but I thought it was worth mentioning as I know you heavily edited the scene to fix the student film quality directing of the original which worked for me btw!
