I just want the original three mixes included in full fidelity. No dynamic range crushing to cater to soundbars, no excessive noise reduction, just a tasteful restoration from the best elements.

As long as they do that, then they can do whatever gimmicky modern Atmos that they want.

I don’t know who would prefer 4K77 once this 6K scan of the negative is released, unless you like all the extra grain, scratches, dust, and lower resolution.

There is undeniably a level of charm to release prints. The more grindhouse-y nature of them can be a nice novelty, and for that I’ll be keeping 4K77/80/83 around. But with that said, yeah, I’‘’ take a proper 4K+ negative scan any day of the week.

“Star Wars–later renamed Star Wars: A New Hope.”

Yep. That seals it, as far as I’m concerned.

Also, there is zero chance this doesn’t get a 4K UHD release lol. Disney is gonna wanna make bank off of the restoration work, physical media sales and cinema releases are how you do that.

First of all I want to say this is all great fun and I’m not trying to “gotcha” anybody, but in the 4K clip compilation the dirt/dust that got through the Reliance 4K restoration seems to match that of these “ALI” clips, which isn’t helping dispel my theory that these are sourced from the UHD, re-timed (often appealingly so!), sharpened and re-grained. Just to highlight a few, comparing grabs from the D+77 and the vid Sonny Hale posted:

No I don’t always have this much time on my hands, but today I did lol. Thoughts?

Breaking news: local man finds out about baked in film artifacts. More at 11.

Definitely seems too elaborate to be a hoax at this point. Not just because of those peculiar Vimeo clips, but also the internal documents the Redditor posted on Imgur seem WAAAAY too detailed to be fake, imo. Whoever wrote them clearly knows what they’re talking about in terms of film restoration, and I can’t imagine someone going through all that effort to fake it just for some internet points in a niche community.

I’m choosing to lean on the side of this being legit, the leaks look a little too detailed, in my opinion, to be faked, but of course stranger things have happened. I guess you could say I’m cautiously optimistic, but if is real it looks promising, especially seeing that they’re restoring the original mono and 6-track mixes…I also love how in the 2004 and 2011 masters are listed as rejected sources LOL.

Hello, everyone! I’m 22 and a longtime fan of of the 4K77/80/83 projects, as well as being a general fan of Star Wars, classic cartoons, horror films, and somewhat of an amateur audio and video quality/AV gear enthusiast. I’m also a hardcore NASCAR fan, as is obvious by my username. Finally decided to join this forum after being interested in 35mm scans and fan restorations/remux projects for years. 😃
