I’m an hour late (because I’m an idiot), but happy 85th anniversary to Fantasia!
First of all I want to say this is all great fun and I’m not trying to “gotcha” anybody, but in the 4K clip compilation the dirt/dust that got through the Reliance 4K restoration seems to match that of these “ALI” clips, which isn’t helping dispel my theory that these are sourced from the UHD, re-timed (often appealingly so!), sharpened and re-grained. Just to highlight a few, comparing grabs from the D+77 and the vid Sonny Hale posted:

It’s still pretty early. If this is, in fact, real (which it looks like it is), hype will almost certainly start building as it comes closer and we get official announcements and whatnot.
Definitely seems too elaborate to be a hoax at this point. Not just because of those peculiar Vimeo clips, but also the internal documents the Redditor posted on Imgur seem WAAAAY too detailed to be fake, imo. Whoever wrote them clearly knows what they’re talking about in terms of film restoration, and I can’t imagine someone going through all that effort to fake it just for some internet points in a niche community.
I’m choosing to lean on the side of this being legit, the leaks look a little too detailed, in my opinion, to be faked, but of course stranger things have happened. I guess you could say I’m cautiously optimistic, but if is real it looks promising, especially seeing that they’re restoring the original mono and 6-track mixes…I also love how in the 2004 and 2011 masters are listed as rejected sources LOL.

I’m 22 and a longtime fan of of the 4K77/80/83 projects, as well as being a general fan of Star Wars, classic cartoons, horror films, and somewhat of an amateur audio and video quality/AV gear enthusiast. I’m also a hardcore NASCAR fan, as is obvious by my username. Finally decided to join this forum after being interested in 35mm scans and fan restorations/remux projects for years. 😃
