And the prequels have to just be done. I can’t keep reopening them up; it’s been a long time for me and those movies. My take on them has matured as much as it’s going to. They may not be replacements for the originals, but they’re complete for what they are. Although I could conceptualize someone doing a “half-assed” version that only gently adjusts the movies to a lesser degree.

I agree, yours are perfect and are the only versions I’ve watched since V2 when I first found them. If you never touch them again, I am beyond happy with what you made 😃

Now that the sequel edits have been done for some time…

Any plans to revisit the prequels (adding back the original titles and reinserting some small things back in) as discussed in the other thread.

And even more importantly, where is Hal’s Solo edit?!

in one of Hal9000’s writings, he (?) suggests watching the Coaxium Heist edit for Solo. i got the impression he wasn’t interested in editing Solo and that this was an edit in line with his standards. i’ve watched it myself and i think it’s a good edit.

I did download it and it seemed good! Only wish they didn’t add a crawl and kept the opening the same. The Battlefront footage sticks out like a sore thumb.

The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!)
Time

How about this one? Based on feedback above:

Luke Skywalker, striving to restore
the legendary Jedi Order, has
vanished. In his absence, the Jedi
have faded into myth across
the galaxy.

Emerging from a hidden stronghold
of the fallen Empire, the mysterious
FIRST ORDER has declared complete obliteration to anyone who dares
to find the last Jedi.

General Leia Organa, frustrated by
the fragile New Republic’s inaction,
has secretly organized a brave
RESISTANCE to find her brother, and
restoring peace and justice to
the darkening stars…

JEDIT: Based on RogueLeader’s feedback.

A good effort, however I have to keep in mind the restraints of word length and how they will fit into the crawl dimensions.

Taking another crack at it, I managed to get ‘hidden’ in there, and also moved the Republic so that the sentence reads more clearly:

EPISODE VII
THE FORCE AWAKENS

It is a time of despair.
Luke Skywalker, striving
to restore the legendary
Jedi Order, has vanished.

With the New Republic
in turmoil, the sinister
FIRST ORDER has risen
from the shadows of a
hidden Imperial fortress
to proclaim that anyone
who dares to search for
the missing Jedi shall be
destroyed.

Appalled by this decree,
a few faithful Senators
have secretly lent their
support to the mission
of a brave RESISTANCE
to find the last Jedi and
restore peace and justice
to the darkening stars…

Love this version!

And another not-so-slight edit to the crawl, because why not 😉

EPISODE VII

evil FIRST ORDER has

This has some vocabulary, but hopefully it’s not too much. The intention is to give the First Order a plan that doesn’t contradict canon or the film yet also makes them maximally threatening. The idea of them having a vendetta against people who want Luke back fits the film since all three of their major attacks occur on those in support of the Jedi.

The relationship of the New Republic to the Resistance also threads the needle between keeping the Senate in a minor role and explaining why they are not taking public action against the First Order, namely that the First Order has presumably only threatened violence against pro-Jedi factions before the start of the film and not directly attacked the Republic itself. The final paragraph also lends some tragedy to the Republic.

The only thing I wish were included in this crawl was a reference to the Imperial base being hidden, but that can be presumed.

You know me and my crawl-writing lol. I tried to add “hidden” and make it a little less wordy but with the same points as above.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>
Time

Ady, I’m guessing you probably have a thousand people asking, but I’ll ask a little differently.

Instead of an ETA (“done when it’s done”), how’s the progress going on ANH:HD and ROTJ:R?

Does it appear the major roadblocks are gone? Is progess being made the way you want? How soon do you think ANH:HD has left before all of the focus goes on ROTJ:R?

KENOBI: A STAR WARS STORY [The Radical &quot;Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi&quot; Cut]
Time

Woo! One thing to add, the bottom of the Kenobi logo can be cropped a little. There is a remnant of the underline from the uncropped logo on the left side.

I would also even suggest removing the whole “A Star Wars Story” from underneath and just have the Kenobi logo larger. Rogue One didn’t have the “A Star Wars Story” in the title card either.

KENOBI: A STAR WARS STORY [The Radical &quot;Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi&quot; Cut]
Time

You could cut the whole swimming scene and go directly to the stormtrooper opening the door and Obi-Wan choking him out. You can assume he’s wet from being in the “sewers”.

Order the scenes as:

  • Obi confronts Haja
  • Obi in the streets
  • Random creatures
  • Elevator
  • Imperials monitoring the computers
  • Stormtrooper opening door and Obi’s: "I’m in’

This will also help to explain why he didn’t have to swim back with Leia.

Shorten Haja’s dialogue to Obi in the streets:
“Alright if it’s the sewers you want there’s only one place to go. I’ll buy you as much time as I can.”

Let’s not have Haja spell out his “making amends” intentions to the audience like we’re too dumb to understand.

Edit: Haja is a Jedi fanboy. Of course he wants to help a real one.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

One of the things that didn’t sit right with me was how Owen and Ben interacted at the end. Owen became more sympathetic towards Ben and allowed him to meet Luke. he had only showed animosity towards ben and wanted him to have nothing to do with Luke, yet right after Luke almost gets killed because of Ben, he suddenly lets him now him. Then switches back to keeping him away from Luke at all costs in ANH. That encounter gave the writers the perfect opportunity to show why Owen wanted ben as far away from Luke as possible. But, no, they screwed it just so he could get his Skyhopper model.

There had to have been some discussion after Reva returns Luke as to who she is and why she was there and attacking them, and it should have been shown in the episode. I would think that Owen learns the week Ben just had, that Anakin is still alive, and that Ben was off-planet protecting Leia. He was probably just being friendly after what Ben’s been through with Leia, but the understanding is still that Ben watches from a distance.

I think there’s some stuff to add back in, maybe not as much though. What about just these changes? Some of the more tolerable that is more of a mix between the theatrical and your edits:

TPM:

  • Use Sir Ridley’s crawl but stick with original TPM title.

  • Put back the battle droid dialogue to one other, starting when they talk before going into where the Jedi are.

  • Have them go underwater to Otah Gunga, but trim it up however you can. Only use the first part of the submarine trip. (Mixed on this, the cut works so well for the pacing in your current edit but adding back in makes this edit different enough)

  • Make sure to include “sitting ducks.” But can still trim up Ric being so delighted by that little droid.

  • Could put back some of Jar Jar’s handful of, “Muy muy” lines.

  • Recreate the theatrical version of the engine startup sequence for the most part, but still remove “me no watchin’”

  • Put back Anakin’s “yes!” after Qui-Gon says “these are yours”

  • Put back “you mean I get to come with you in your starship?”

  • If any cuts remain to the farewell to Schmi, undo them.

  • Put back Qui-Gon’s line, “Tell them to take off!”

  • Put back scene on Naboo where the Viceroy sits on his walking throne, originally removed because it references the underwater trip to Otah Gungah.

  • Put back scene where Obi-Wan apologizes to Qui-Gon and Jar Jar emerges from the swamp. Be sure to remove added line over shot of company approaching gungans.

  • Revise Jar Jar’s antics throughout the battle. (Keep it as is, but put back “steady, steady” line, “ouch time.” Also, when retreating, imply he’s riding away on the animal and is shot off and lands onto the tank, using a boomer.)

AOTC:

  • Use Sir Ridley’s new title crawl, but with the original AOTC title.

  • Put back Anakin losing his saber and being (more gently?) reprimanded for it. And conversation entering the bar.

  • Anakin can mention attachment being forbidden.

  • Yoda and younglings instead of Mace on platform deleted scene.

  • Put back little description of Boba Fett.

  • Put back Obi-Wan and Jango’s dialogue, including name drop of Darth Tyranus.

  • Put back angry Ani in the garage, but cut down his confession of a slaughter and blaming Obi-Wan, when he turns to walk away cut to when he sits down:
Anakin: “Why did she have to die? Why couldn’t I save her? I know I could have.”
Padme: “To be angry is to be human.”
Anakin: “I’m a Jedi, I know I’m better than this.”

  • When Obi-Wan reports to Yoda and Windu, put back Mace asking about the assassination of Amidala.

  • Maybe work harder to have only R2 leave the ship on Geonosis and save the day, as at least one other edit has done. Ideally not flying, though, as it’d be the only time in the films.

  • Put back the crowdpleasing saber duel with Yoda.

  • Sidious can address Dooku as ‘Tyrannus.’

ROTS:

  • Use Sir Ridley’s crawl, but use original ROTS title.

  • Put back line “this is where the fun begins.”

  • Use suggested order of scenes for the second act of the movie

  • Reorder dialogue for “The Senate scene”, if possible:
Mace Windu: In the name of the Galactic Senate of the Republic…
Palpatine interrupts with: I am the senate.
Mace Windu: …you’re under arrest, Chancellor.
Palpatine: Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?
    Mace Windu: Not yet.
    Palpatine: It’s treason then.

  • Reinstate youngling slaughter

  • Put back Obi-Wan and Yoda fighting to reenter the Temple.

  • Put back Kenobi and Yoda planning to destroy the Sith.

  • Keep trims to Obi-Wan and Padme, but add back in “killing younglings”

  • Redo Anakin’s and Padme’s conversation on Mustafar based on what makes sense now.

  • Reinstate Yoda duel, minding saber ignition sounds for consistency, and referring to L8wrtr’s version.

  • Put back dialogue about the ‘high ground’ at the end of the duel.

  • Film ends similarly to the theatrical, of course. Vader can still have his Russian yell, but Padme dies and we see her funeral, etc.

  • Try to keep the new shots that remove the droids from the twins’ birth.

I haven’t made plans to modify this substantially, although I would imagine making two small changes to Ep1 and Ep2 in the event I find myself reissuing it anyway. Those being to reinstate the explicit idea Anakin is “too old,” and Anakin explicitly mentioning that attachment is forbidden for Jedi.

I do not think any changes need to be made to Ep1 and Ep2.

Ep1:
I think it works better for your vision as a whole to NOT want the Jedi to train Anakin because they think he is either too dangerous or they are unsure what his future would hold, not that he is older.

Ep2:
By having Anakin explicitly mention that attachment is forbidden for Jedi, I feel adding this back in could go either way. I tend to think of the Jedi and Anakin as being similar to the Catholics vs. Protestants. Catholic priests are more strict and have more rules that are meant to bring them closer to their religion, like practicing celibacy, while Protestants believe that “we are encouraged to love”. Blah, blah, blah… I think this helps to show that Anakin doesn’t fully agree with the Jedi’s current views and it helps to cement his turn against them in your edit of Ep3. By leaving “attachment is forbidden” more vague, it allows Anakin not to feel he is “breaking” the rules by being in a relationship, but leaves him feeling wrong enough about it to hide it from the other Jedi… another internal conflict that helps lead to his turn.
