The Empire Strikes Back <em>IMPERIAL &quot;AUDIOPHILE&quot; EDITION</em> - Restored &amp; Remastered Score - J. Williams &amp; LSO (Released)
Time

I wonder if ABC considered doing an updated version ?
There have been several official remastered release of the LP since. One (or some) of them are considered to have the best sound quality i think. Which one(s), i don’t remember, there have been so many re-issues (cd/digital) it became very confusing.

Personally i am totaly fine with this version, i am not an audiophile. But for the sake of the set being up to date and compete in sound quality with the official versions.

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)
Time

I was looking to know if this mysterious 70mm track (from the 4K77) was actually a real recording. I have my answers.
Thank you hairy_hen for your work.

Is there actually several people/theaters known to own a 70mm print or it is a one of a kind ?

Reading the few previous messages… since i moved few years ago, i realized how environement has a big impact on sound.
When you move from a square/rectangular room with hard wall, to an open room with half the wall beeing glass (large windows)… Well…

I had to buy a new amp and a umik… and later a miniDSP too for my sub 😃

A little off-topic, how is the Disney+/UHD soundtrack ? I must say i never listened to the DVD/BD soundtrack but i remember it was controversial (swaped music on surround tracks or something like that…)
(I have no complain against the 97 SE soundtrack)

<strong>4K77</strong> - Released
Time

I registered on the board in 2006. I think at the time i was waiting for the “X0 Project”.
The wait(hope) for some official release has been so frustrating.

(I have never been really excited by “De-specialization” projects)

I was a bit hyped by the work from M. Verta but we will probably never see it and it would maybe have ended up beeing “restored” too much.

Recently saw that a 2.0 release is planned, with reel by reel color timing. I feel like in the end, this is what i have been waiting for 20 years. (the 1.4 version is already fantastic)
Thank you !

Laserdisc players - screenshot comparison
Time

Honestly i can't remember why i resized them in 1024 at the time (i made them a few months ago). But i must still have the various huffyuv avi
EDIT : i redo them with the correct size

it's from the French SE SET

I have the 1995 THX French (dubbed), French SE, Japanese DC(v1), Kuraray Faces.

1995 THX FR with 2950 :

I will try to do the Leia shot from the first post with the 2950 (i think something must be wrong with the 2950 of _,,,^..^,,,_)

Laserdisc players - screenshot comparison
Time

Hello,

I have also done comparisons myself between the 515, 310 and 2950 (with his "so-called" natural soft picture).

(not been able to get a CLD-D925 yet !)

PQ :

515 = sharp - (with some noise from the circuitry but overall OK)

2950 = soft (if not blurry) - with absolutely 0 noise from the player (quite impressive actually) but it has a bit a "blurry" look

The best would be sharp picture from the 515 with build quality of the 2950

I can not tell really if 2950 = too much NR or if 515 = sharpened, but i really prefer the look of the 515

Drop-out :

2950 = absolute winner. most of the dropouts are erased. The 515 and 310 look bad in comparison.

Of course my comparison is absolutely incomplete without a D925

Captures (cheap cx2881 connexant card) :

515 :

2950 (dropout almost erased) :

515 :

2950 : (watch R2 vertical lines on the right)

515 : (zoomed)

2950 :

It's maybe not really noticeable on the captures, but when looking on TV (CRT TV), the 2950 really has a "blurry" look vs the 515.

Unfortunately i don't have the disc with the test pattern

I hope to find a 925 someday to complete this.

-

By the way, i have bought the Kuraray pressing of the "faces", and the quality is terrible Vs. the DC (i have the jpn one). The clv set smear A LOT on my player.. that's just weird
(I have a CLD-R7G for NTSC)

EDIT : original size pictures

If you have used the PAL UK set (it's written on the first page but i haven't read the whole thread), i remember it has (more or less annoying) curious color variation on the tatooine desert like "normal ~ a little greenish ~ back to normal.. etc

(i don't remember for the rest of the movie)

I brought it a while ago while i was looking for the best presentation (my French Set had dropout issue) but i sold it after noticing that.

The french set had not theses issue. (if i remember)

OK. I am trying to get a 2950 myself.

I have heard good things about the LD-V4300D (some say it has a raw output and better signal than the 2950/925 however i think it's pretty old).

I have got the Service Manual of the 2950 and i think that for an electronic expert (with all the detailed diagram there is in it) its maybe easy to get the raw signal from a LD-Player

Hello Moth3r,

I was wondering if finaly you get your hands on a CLD-2950 to compare it to the picture of the 925. It seems no one has the same opinion on the question.

And maybe if you got some information from Laserman (about a mod to output a raw signal) before his disappearance.

I have for NTSC a CLD-R7G and for PAL a plain S310 ;) and if the output of the R7G is of course very clean, i admit the Pal resolution is REALLY a plus.

Thank you

GOUT, Automated Theatrical Colouring, and a Reference Guide
Time

The process seems overdone to me (http://savestarwars.com/goutcorrect.html)

Han face is almost orange. And some shot are too green. (not sure it was really intented in 77)

Are you sure the prints you have examinated are 100% fresh ?

I think its oversaturated.. or something else

However if a put the 2 captures in photoshop and mix them (50% opacity), the result seems more convincing

But i havent seen the movie in theater before 1997 so i can't tell.

(my screen is calibrated with a colorimeter)

Jap Definitive Col. Hue

thank you for your answers

Yes Zion the 3 pictures are maybe from you (i take them from another threat)
The first is taken with my CLD-R7G and a very cheap capture card (conexant)

As I said, I am a little disappointed by the hue of this set because i havent the "issue" with others random movies on the same player.
However I obtains excellent results if a tweak hue of my capture card.

But strange for a "THX" set.

Exemple with correction (maybe a little too much)

Jap Definitive Col. Hue
Time
Hello all.
This is the first time i post here, but i am following the forum for some time.

I am making my own preservation project (mainly for friends and for fun)
I have a question about the hue, skin tone of the def. col.

I have the Japanese Def Col. First edition (with the book) and the skin tone is really red~purple in comparaison with my other sets (SE, Pal fr THX, Pal fr SE)
Nothing than can't be tweaked but ..

Here a raw screencap (from DSCALER with a cx23881 all player filters off) :

http://crumby2.free.fr/defjap.jpg

I have seen some raw cap of the US Def. Face. and the hue (not perfect too) doesn't seems so off :

http://crumby2.free.fr/image61nk.jpg

So the Jap Def has a worst hue than the US ?

Sorry fo my english
Thank you - Happy new year
