Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)
Time

I’m sad, burned the discs and they worked fine on all players, but my fancy new 4k Blu ray player only loads the main menu, and Everytime I hit, “play movie” it just goes back to the menu again. 😦

Any idea what would cause the 4K BD player to be less forgiving? I’ve seen this happen before where BD-compliant burned discs will work fine in actual stand-alone BD players, but then stuff like an Xbox One or maybe a PS3/4 will not play it. Stricter standards maybe?

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly International Cut/US Theatrical Cut (Released)

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed it. Since I wanted to put this together quickly a few issues have been pointed out so I might have to do a version 2 sometime or release the 4K version cut down to the international cut, which is what I worked on first.

Sounds great! I’d definitely enjoy seeing a second release that is even more fine tuned. Maybe add subtitles as well, if that is possible?

Terminator 1 & 2 Projects (Released)
Time

I watched T1 a few months back but hadn’t gotten to T2 yet. I’m about 3/4’s of the way through T2 now and wanted to drop a big thank you to Team Blu for both of these terrific releases. I love the menu theme for these and how they play off of each other–great designs! I got a 2-disc Blu-ray case and printed out the double-movie cover and now have the perfect Terminator collection.

Hard Target - Ultimate Cut. (Released)
Time

I finally got a chance to watch this.  I had a great time sitting through this one!  It had been a long time since I'd watched my region 1 DVD, so I was doing my best to look for differences.  The theatrical release is all that I have ever seen, so nothing from the international/European edit was familiar to me.

The first scene I noticed was from the beginning where Binder is shown to be a more competent adversary by tossing the gasoline can at the hunters.  Binder jumping into the house before it explodes was new, too.  Some of the musical cues caught me off guard a bit as well, but I was not at all turned off by them.  Some of the different musical touches added a more dark atmosphere, in my opinion.

I had not even noticed the motorcycle balancing act being removed until reading comments here!  I think you had the right idea in trimming that down as it was a bit silly.

For me, the most notable differences took place in the Mardi Gras warehouse battle.  A lot of the fights were fleshed out more and allowed to breathe.  Is all of this visible in the European edit of the film?

One scene that surprised me was when Fouchon is hitting Chance with the wood plank.  In the U.S. edit, Chance grabs hold of the fiery plank and the camera slowly pans up to his face as flashbacks occur.  Fouchon and Chance have somewhat of a stare-down before the fight continues.  In this cut, Chance just quickly breaks the board and fights on.  I realize this was so because you rearranged the scene, but it was a moment I remembered well from the DVD.  Not sure which way I like better, but that scene stood out the most to me.

Oh, and I can't forget Chance's flips.  I had never seen those before, minus the one where he surprises Fouchon by jumping through the fire.

I thought the picture quality was great on this release.  Easily a step up from the region 1 DVD.  No complaints with the audio, either.  A very bombastic track.

I have yet to purchase the U.K. Blu-ray, so I can't compare to that one.  I had been hoping a U.S. release would see the light of day soon, but it still remains in limbo.  Have said that, I really enjoyed your edit, CSchmidlapp.  You did a terrific job.  Your edit easily bests the region 1 DVD I own.  I look forward to another viewing in the near future.  Thanks again for making this available.

Are you talking about a V3 cover with all on it? if so someone else can do it but to be brutally honest right now, the V3 means nothing to me now, I don't even look at them, that is old stuff, we are so far beyond that now it is not even funny lol, but I have no problems at all if someone wants to work one up, I just won't ask my art guys to do it, to many BD projects going to have them break away lol.

Sorry

Yeah, I was referring to this cover being modified for the V3 release.  Looked like a really nice cover, so I thought I'd ask.  I believe it was asked already, but I assume there will be no V4 release for DVD?  Thanks.

Mine is OK with XP but will not even install in Windows 7!!!!

Same here.  No luck getting Rogue Squadron 3D to install on 64-bit Windows 7.  I even tried this workaround, but still no dice.

Info: Re-mixed audio tracks on video releases

Another example of a missing mono track: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. When MGM put together the restored extended cut, they only did a 5.1 remix, since the original mono track conformed to the shorter U.S. theatrical cut, and according to DVD Savant a restored mono track was not included in the restoration budget.

The Blu-ray includes a mono track...but it's a fold-down of the modern remix! All the other MGM Leone films include the original mono (albeit not lossless), but TGTBATU doesn't.

The original DVD contains a mono track, but naturally it's not lossless. This film deserves a lossless preservation of the mono track from laserdisc. Both of the 90s letterbox LD releases contain a digital track as well as a CX-encoded analog track.

I think it could also be possible to make an extended version of the original mono track, by taking the lossless Italian mono track on the Mondo Blu-ray for the additional scenes, and switching to a mono fold-down of the English whenever someone talks. That way, you'd have a mostly original, English mono mix that could be synched up to that superior release.

And if you want to go one further and make an English mono that includes the grotto scene, to synch up to the MGM Blu-ray, you could probably cut together the lossy Italian mono on that disc with the English dialogue from the remix.

All this is true.  I never picked up the Blu-Ray for this very reason and, well, the fact that it did not contain the theatrical cut.  I sought out the first domestic release to get both of these features.  The mono sound effects sound so much better compared to the 5.1 remix...Think of Terminator for a good comparison.

I was just about ready to order the region A Blu-Ray when I read some posts about the 5.1 remix being subject to criticism. Can anyone that owns this release of Escape from New York confirm whether or not it has the original soundtrack used in the first edition DVD?

I have not yet been able to get an answer to this. Maybe someone who owns it will see this and confirm it for us, as there's a chance one of the releases just have a stereo fold-down of the re-mix.

I tried to do some digging after reading this thread, but there is not a whole lot of reviews talking about the Dolby 2.0 mix provided in this Blu-Ray release;  not surprisingly, only the DTS HD-MA track is discussed.  A user review over at Blu-Ray.com indicates it is not a simple down-mix of the 5.1 track, though.  I was just hoping someone here might also be able to confirm.

The Griff, thanks for the info on the EFNY HDTV version, will check it out. The original Dolby Stereo mix should apparently be available on the Blu-ray according to someone who posted about it here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/309515/5-1-remix-soundtracks-on-films-first-released-on-older-media-in-stereo

"On a sidenote, I recently picked up ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK on Bluray, and was pleased to find out the 2.0 track was the original Dolby Stereo mix and not a simple downmix of the new 5.1 track. (Lazy downmixes are sadly not a rare thing, vs being a truely separate mix) The original mix retains the original sound effects and occasional directional dialog."

Both the Optimum (UK) and MGM (Fox) release includes an additional Dolby 2.0 track, hmm...
