The DTS audio issues have been fixed, I will be sending out an ungraded and graded UHD version of the film with fixed audio.

The center track somehow snuck its way into the LFE track making all the dialogue overly boomy for people listening on a 5.1 setup. It also counts as doubling for people on headphones, making all dialogue way louder than it needed to be. The audio issues are now fully fixed.

The version I sent out before was higher quality than UHD but had a few exporting issues. I’ll be sending out the ungraded UHD version soon with one of the reels rescanned. The graded version will take a little longer but will also be out soon. If you haven’t donated and would like a copy feel free to PM me.

Has this version been released yet? Not sure if I missed it (I did donate).

Yes it has, all donors should have access. It’s the same Google Drive link as last time

All 35mm is meant to be run at 24fps, but anyway there is no such thing as scanning at any fps. All the scanner does is snap each frame perfectly at whatever speed it needs to do it properly. You can then tell playback to run whatever speed you want (although 24.00fps would match the intended cinema speed). If you have Cinema DTS audio it is best to just leave it all at 24fps so you don’t have to stretch the audio and introduce artifacts. If you are gonna combine to home media audio that has often been timed for 23.976 so it is best to leave that audio as is rather than mess with it yet again and just set the metadata so the video is played back at 23.976 (but don’t like have software try to re-render from 24fps down to 23.976 as that adds all sorts of artifacts for no point and takes forever!! just leave it untouched and have the metadata say the video is to be played back at 23.976).

I’ve been trying to track down the original Cinema DTS audio. Apparently there’s someone that has it but I haven’t yet received it.

Will it be scanned at 24 or 23.976 fps? If so, you should adjust the audio speed to match the source. If it is scanned at the latter frame rate, synchronizing the audio will be equally simple.

It will be scanned at 24fps, I don’t think I’ll have any problems synchronizing the audio. I should be in possession of the original DTS .AUD files soon anyways so that would be perfect.

The preview images are from a proxy file of the final scan.

PM me if you’re interested in donating!

As of 03/04/2024 the print has been scanned and will soon be sent to donors.

The print comes from Spain and is dubbed. I’ll be syncing this print with English DTS audio. It is a fully open matte print throughout all 6 reels.

A contribution of $10 will get you a full UHD version of the print.

I’ll be posting updates here if you want to keep up with the progress of this project. Feel free to PM me with any questions, concerns or suggestions you have.

I live in the UK so scanning would be about £600 per reel. If there’s any way to fundraise to get someone from the US to buy this it would be greatly appreciated as I think shipping to a US address would cause to many issues from here.

I have a scanner in London that could do the entire scan for less than £600, but it’s not worth sending the film from the US to the UK just for scanning. It can be done to higher quality in the US - join my discord channel and send me a message there.

This is the type of quality you can get out of the Gugusse Roller.

Which is very rough on film and cannot handle 1,000ft reels let alone 2,000ft reels. The only things that DenisCR can scan on it is trailers and other similarly short reels like music videos, snipes, and theatre ads. The Gugusse Roller is a Raspberry Pi project really, not a film scanner.

I’ll make an account and contact you, I can start a fundraiser and get it sent to you in the US.

Scooby-Doo (2002) 4K 35mm Restoration (OPEN MATTE) (Request)

I have just seen one of my favourite films going for less than $1k on eBay as an Open Matte. Is it possible for someone here to start a fundraiser to get this bought and scanned? I would love to do it myself but as I haven’t done it before I think it would be better left to the people that have done this before.

For me, it would cost £1,104.31 total.

US $799.99 (£666.66)
+ US $289.04 (£240.87)
+ US $236.14 import charges (£196.78)

Scanning I’m not quite sure about, I have no clue where I would get it scanned here in the UK for a decent price.
Something that would be able to be a fundraiser would be something like a Gugusse Roller or Kinograph.
