This is being fixed. The original voice is being restored. To hear how it will sound in Ady's ESB:R, watch from 3:36 in this video:

I didn't know that line had been changed either, but that sounds much more natural so I'm pleased it's being changed. Ady really does think of everything, doesn't he :)

I didn't see this covered, but I apologize if I've missed something.

I've always been annoyed at the voice telling 3PO "Who are you" sounding so unlike a strom trooper. I mean, I do understand that the intention behind it was probably to not ruin the reveal for the audience that the Empire was already on Bespin. But the voice just sounds a bit silly, all gruff and weird. Besides, I don't think a normal storm trooper voice would be immidiately recognizeble, especially since they haven't been heard since ANH, so I don't se any harm in adding that.

Or, if keeping the reveal at all costs is a high priority, the voice could be changed to a normal person's voice, implying that the line is spoken by an imperial officer. I'd be happy so long as anything is done to it.

That's more or less what I assumed. A more radical edit might make the time difference more explicit — the Bespin scenes and the Dagobah scenes are intercut in the original and ESB:R, whereas a time-stretching edit would place the Bespin scenes after most of Dagobah.

The only problem with this is that the Han/Leia romantic subplot plays out like they were only on the Falcon for a few days. You could justify this in a harder piece of SF by citing relativistic effects — they take a few months to get to Bespin, giving Luke the requisite time to train, but they only perceive a few days — but in something like Star Wars it comes across as handwaving.

Well, I always thought they behaved very differently towards each other on Bespin, more tenderly and such. Like some time had passed since they first left the asteroid field. Of course, the movie itself isn't very good at conveying this passage of time - indeed it feels like merely a few days (except for Han's comment about Bespin being "pretty far" away).

It's a shame really, because a simple line from C-3PO about how "this long trip is finally over" or something like that would have probably done the trick.

I don't think so, looks too distracting, sorta like the prequels. BUT, maybe have a HUD in one of those little circles? I think it would go nice in the blue one, but who knows

I agree. A smaller version in one of the displays consols would work better.

ok ADYWAN is the emporers theme going to appear in the emporer conversationcin ESB:R?

heres how it would sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfNYjhuQOiI

I agree. I think I asked ady this myself way back, and I believe he said that he may add few snippets of the emperor's theme in there, but wouldn't let it be in the entire scene. Correct me if I'm wrong, ady.

Anyway, I think it would sound great. But a little less loud than in the youtube link.

The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).

What's still bugging me about ANH sometimes is the imperial forces in general and Darth Vader in particular. Everything from his voice to his helmet to his characteristics and place in the chain of command. Lucas has mentioned that Vader is an equal of Tarkin. I don't know how this could be done, but something to make Vader seem like less of a flunky would be nice. He rooms around the Death Star corridors too much, he brings Leia to Tarkin like some kind of security guard, he allows officers to bad-mouth him, etc. Aside from that, his helmet is dull, lacking the shiny quality of the sequels and his voice is poor. Adywan improved it for the DVD 9 but it still sounds like he's just a dude with a helmet on. In all the other movies, the voice sounds as if it's generated by the life-support system. But I doubt anything short of a re-dub would completely get rid of this problem.

Aside from that, I find the ANH rank badges ilogical, random and impossible to decipher. I feel a switch to the ESB style badges would be preferable here. Making Tagge and Motti Moffs would be good too. Admirals and generals having such influence in the desision-making process doesn't mesh with the way they are treated as pawns in ESB and ROTJ.

Concerning suggestions yet to be covered, I know someone mentioned that the snakes and lizards in the dark cave on Dagobah look a little too terrestrial and ordinary. But I don't know if Ady commented on it. Is there any intention of removing them or doing something to them that gives them a more alien look? I'm sorry if ady's already covered this.

Btw, all these comments are getting me very excited for the offical trailer release. Was it may 21th?

Concerning models versus cgi, I'm glad ady is gooing the model route. I am still of the opinion that models look better thn cg, at least with bigger ships, because they are actually there. Something about them actually existing rather than just being rendered in a computer. For instance, I thought most capital ships in the pt looked fake, like from a video game.

Interesting. It seems like Kurtz had a big influence on ANH and ESB. I have heard about this before, but it's always interesting to here his own words about it. I agree that Lucas needs more people to question him. We grow as people through working with others and argueing. No one man is flawless, and everyone needs another person to point out when something is bad. Lucas has too many yes-men now.

But did anyone else feel the interviewer kept asking too many pointed questions? Sometimes it felt like he just was intent on bashing Lucas beforehand and just wanted to get Kurtz to agree with him, rather than really letting Kurtz's opinions speak for themselves.

I don't mind things winding down a bit, actually. When the pace was at its most hectic, it seemed like I could go to the kitchen and make myself a sandwish and come back to an entire page of new posts! Interesting discussions all of them, but it was hard to keep up there for a while.

The issue I have with Yoda's voice is that his speech problem, if you can call it that lol, seems more natural in TESB and ROTJ. In the PT he is simply talking backwards, and to an exaggerated degree which is annoying.

I seem to remember his speech being largely okay in TPM, but not in the others. Imagine OT Yoda delivering this line: "around the survivors a perimeter create". Haha, Lucas really took the backwards talk a bit too far there me thinks.

in regards to vaders suit I think it should be dulled down a little bit in ESB and ROTJ because a new hope it wasnt shiney at all. one question though seeing as I havent yet got star wars revisited was vaders voice tampered with because in the film i thought it sounded like vader was talking through a walkie talkie were as his voice was crisp and booming in the other films.

I feel the exact opposite. For me, it is Vader in ANH that looks (and sounds) a bit dull. TESB is often considered Vader's finest hour and I think his look was a hugh contributing factor to that. I vastly prefer his suit to be shiny. As for Boba Fett, I would prefer him cut from ROTJ entirely.

I agree about the voice, though. I often feel like ANH-Vader is a prototype-Vader that doesn't mesh well with the other films. His voice is poor, his suit is duller, he acts like a lackey rather than a commander, nobody is afraid of him, etc.

As I understand it, Adywan did alter his voice somewhat for the DVD-9. I have listened to a test clip and it did improve things, but I unfortunately think nothing short of a redub would entirely bring the voice quality up to TESB/ROTJ level.

Btw, no critism to James Earl Jones at all. He did a great delivery in ANH, as he always does. It is likely the cheap recording technology that is to blame here.

The rank insignia in ROTJ is a particular annoyance to me, but adywan has sadly said that he isn't bothered about them. Since I have absolutely no knowledge on editing films, and no fate whatsoever in Lucas ever correcting this, I feel a bit bummed that ady won't fix this hugh technical error.

But hey, I still greatly look forward to ROTJ:RE, especially since ady mentioned what he has in store for the final space battle. It will be grand for sure.

Well, we don't want him using the exact same sounds over and over again, do we?  We don't want another Boussh on our hands.

Its one thing to have different sounds that are consistent with what came before, but its quite another to have an entirely new type of sound altogether.

Its like if Yoda suddenly spoke proper english, or the Millennium Falcon suddenly started sounding like an airliner.

On that note, even the lightsabers sound a little different in ROTJ. I realize I have issues with the sound in ROTJ....

Again, I agree. But I didn't notice this before somebody pointed it out, but once they did, it became very noticeble and annoying.

Watch ROTJ again with this in mind and compare with another movie, ESB for instance. I'm sure you'll hear the difference.

If it would save you money, ady, maybe you could tone down the battle in Reveng of the Sith a bit when you get to that edit? I always felt that the ROTS one was too cluttered, there is so much going on at once it's making me disy, and it's hard to even make out who's firing at whom. By decluttering it you could hopefully save a little money in ROTJ:RV, and sort of allow ROTJ and ROTS to meet in the middle, to borrow a phrase from ben dancer.

This has probably already been brought up, beat down, destroyed, and rebuilt, only to be beat down again, but...

... I would really love it if R2-D2's beeps were changed to fit in with the rest of the Star Wars saga!!!!!

Even the PT got the beeps right. What the hell is up with R2's beeps in ROTJ? That has always bugged me, even when I was a little kid.

To quote C-3PO: I heartily agree with you, sir.

R2's beeps suck in ROTJ, and it has bothered me for some time. I know it will be time-consuming, but I hope ady corrects this.
