The Last Jedi: Legendary (Released)

Iā€™ve seen a few of the deleted scenes, though it doesnā€™t look like they are available in full anywhere yet. So far, as long as the quality is as presentable as it seems it will be, Iā€™d like to include Reyā€™s third lesson and BB8 showing Finn his recording of the end of TFA.

Noodle_flinger is at it again, already posting a rough cut on Reddit. I took a look, and thereā€™s a few good ideas Iā€™ll likely use for this project. The best one is trimming down Finnā€™s suicide run; itā€™s amazing how this helps subvert RJā€™s subversion of expectations somewhat, and keep the hypothetical first-time audience from getting to the point where they are fully invested in saying goodbye to Finn in that moment.

I cannot begin editing TLJ until the BluRay is released, for obvious reasons involving linear cause and effect throughout the progression of time in one direction. But, I wonā€™t begin work until Iā€™m 100% finished getting the prequel trilogy output, vetted, and distributed.

You can view all of them here (for now):

And yes! The two you called out are the two that felt like the film really needed added back in.

Harmy's Despecialized Star Wars 1977 - Color Adjustment Project for v2.7 (released)

Alternatively, if no one wants the 97+ crawl/flyover, and I canā€™t get the 1981, I can of course only release the 1977 version. I thought people might want the ANH crawl, even if itā€™s from SE era, but if that isnā€™t the case then itā€™s no problem!

Oh I would prefer it to stay as well!! Itā€™s great to have for marathons and for a closest to 1981 theatrical that we can get.

I see absolutely no reason to only preserve the 1977 one over 1981. Both are equal in importance and worth of preservation. There isnā€™t a correct answer to which ā€œdeservesā€ to be preserved. Because they both do. I was extremely glad you took the initiative to keep the crawl. šŸ˜ƒ

Oh and, when you say it is regraded for the next update does that mean the crawl is going to be a closer match the colors of the theatrical crawls? As those seem to be paler in comparison to the SE and onwards era crawls that have a richer/darker crawl coloring.

Edit: Oh! You might actual go with the 1981 it sounds like.

For people asking about the MKV:

Yep, Iā€™ll do them. I need to re-encode because I upped the bitrate for the BD m2ts. If youā€™re in a hurry, you can see if you can mux them yourself. I donā€™t know how muxxing sequential M2ts files works, or if it does. The big m2ts is the movie after the crawl, and two of the other smaller ones are the different crawls.

What crawl would you want first?

DLucas: If you want it mainly to grab the color for your encode, get the BD since the bitrate is higher. šŸ˜ƒ

The MKV with the ANH crawl please! šŸ˜ƒ

Btw, did you manage to keep all the english audio mixes for the final encode?

Nearly. I could do 8, so Iā€™ve left out the LD commentary (since itā€™s almost entirely nothing anyway), the non-English tracks, the visually impaired track, and the isolated score. For anyone who wants that, theyā€™ll want an MKV release of some sort or other.

One thing I havenā€™t brought up until now is that the first 3 tracks, that were DTS-HD, are going to be the Dolby Digital versions from Harmyā€™s AVCHD release. For the seamless branching to work, the BD muxing software needs to mux part of the tracks into one m2ts and part into another, and the software doesnā€™t play nicely at all with these particular tracks. In fact, only tsmuxergui and multiavchd work well with those tracks in my hands. The extra disc space went into extra video bitrate. Again, an MKV version for anyone who finds this to be a dealbreaker.

Sounds good! Looking forward to your '81 MKV on the spleen. šŸ˜ƒ

Your next edition will have one with the 1981 Episode IV crawl!? THANK YOU! I canā€™t express how much I have wanted this and gave up hope on it. As much as I love the Harmy versions and appreciate all the hard-work he has done whenever I watched the '77 classic it always felt off without the ā€œEpisode IV A New Hopeā€. Having grown up with it on VHS my theatrical cuts in my head had that crawl, and it feels missing without it to me.

You have just made this edition of the film finally complete to me with that announcement. Thank you so much.

Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Released)

Just little things. There's a few brief lines and shots that I reinstated, but the main benefit of v4 is that it will look so much better, thanks to Hundsdorfex's care with a few shots, schorman13's HDTV source, and DrDre's algorithmic upscale of the deleted scenes. V4 will be it, save for an encode using Emanswfan's regraded version. But I'm not holding anything back in anticipation. As picky as I am, V4 will be the completion. New commentary tracks have been recorded, with things being locked and set.

Oh wow! Awesome. Is there V4's coming for all 3 films to include these fixes such as the improved deleted scenes or just Episode III?

Thanks to Hundsdorfex's amazing dedication, we have yet another cool little FX tweak. This time, it allows me to better integrate this scene. Not only did he recolor Leia's eyes to brown, but he painted out Bail's figure from the balcony so I could use that establishing shot. Also, I desaturated and recolored Alderaan somewhat to better match the footage of Natalie Portman.

When can we expect a new edition of LoE with this tweak (or are you planning more tweaks?)?  Thanks! :)

Nice! Really pleased with how the colours look on the OT (looking only at screenshots for IV and V, but I've watched your RotJ). Looking forward to the 5.1 releases.

My only request, if I may make one, is that with ESB if you could have an alternate version with the McDiarmid-Emperor scene instead (with your wonderful colour correction, of course). Planning a saga watch before the release of VII, and ESB's original Emperor may seem a bit out of place. Maybe even a recut, as ADigitalMan did on DVD, to be closer to the original dialogue but with McDiarmid's voice.

Loved watching your RotJ. The colour was great. Jabba's Palace played out well with the music. Nice to see the original Anakin again. Only suggestion I might level, is that Cloud City seemed awfully lonely being the only city in the celebration at the end. I grew up with the '97SE though, so maybe that's just me. Glad Naboo is gone though.

Thanks for the effort!!

Thanks!

I am actually seriously considering creating an alternate version of ESB with the McDiarmid-Emperor scene instead, i'm not a big fan of the dialogue or the puffed up look of the SE emperor in that scene but you're not the first to request it and it is a very easy change to make.

I have no plans to reintroduce Coruscant, Naboo pr Tatooine Celebration scenes. Coruscant and Naboo were never shown in the Original Trilogy so they have no place there and just remind people of the Prequels by being there. Tatooine was of course but it just looks ridiculously overcrowded, blatently CG and OTT in general IMHO, like something out ot the Prequels.

I have to say I agree with the poster you are quoting. I would LOVE a ESB edition with McDiarmid Emperor. Having a consistent actor (and one that does not look like an old lady with monkey eyes) is preferable, even with the dialogue puffy face and puffy face. I would love to see this verision!

No need to worry Cheebo, these Semi-Specialised Editions are still very much alive, just been busy with work and other projects like Fight Club and Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl so I haven't been around here for a while.

To answer your question MrToad883, I plan to start working on the 5.1 mixes once I finish Return of the Jedi, which will be very soon, like in 1-2 weeks. Return of the Jedi has always been my second favourite OT film after Star Wars so I'm very much looking forward to finally releasing it.

One thing you guys can be certain of is that all three Semi-Specialised V2 releases and the 5.1 mixes to go with them will be out before The Forces Awakens hits the cinemas.

Hooray!! This is so fantastic to here. Your editions are fantastic and can't wait to have a complete set. Thank you.

Will you be including a Yub Nub edition of 'Jedi like before?

how are the 5.1 mixes coming along? video wise these look fantastic so far

He said that would begin working on those once he finishes the ROTJ 2.15 edition to go along with the editions he released for the other 5 films earlier this year.

And we have sadly not heard anything about the ROTJ 2.15 edition in a few months.

I have a bad feeling the project is dead. I hope not. :(

Just finishing up with John Wick and Gone Girl, then i'll get round to creating The Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2, i've already finalised the settings so it shouldn't be long.

Saw you posted those movies about a month back and some other movies since then, any word on if we'll be seeing Empire soon? :) Thanks!
