The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

One of the first things I was taught in film classes that involve color-correction, first in Telecine & Color Correction and now in Avid Online, is that you need to calibrate your display.  (Hell, we're expected to do it every time we sit down to color correct, but that's likely just because other people use the workstations outside of our classes, so we have to be sure to undo any damage they did.)

Look up "display calibration" on Google, I'm sure you can find something to help you there.  If your display can do blue-only, or you have a blue filter, you can use SMPTE bars to calibrate it (you can still use them to set brightness).

seeing Ady's version made me wonder if that was indeed the way it was originally, but during editing they found that by changing the order it made things more emotionally intense.

That's exactly what happened.  And I agree with you - the cut of the scene in the theatrical release was the superior cut.

Frankly, I wish Ady had kept the theatrical cut of the scene, and put the "original" cut (as it appears in Revisited) in the deleted scenes section.

*edit*

And I think the Purist version did restore the hut scene to its original cut, didn't it?

*re-edit*

Ah, Moth3r beat me to it.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

I guarantee you that if he poured the money for the 3D conversion of all 6 films into restoring the OUT instead, and released it in a Blu-Ray box along with the 1997 SEs, 2004 SEs, and the 2011 SEs (assuming there will be more changes), he'd make all his money back and more.  I think that would be more profitable than 3D re-releases.

Mainly because I know I would buy that, but I'll not see any Star Wars film in 3D, ever, no matter what, and I can't be the only one.

I'm no sheep.  I just don't have time to help someone out who acts as entitled as you.  I'm currently swamped with class work - I'm cutting two feature-length documentaries, working as a post-production supervisor on a graduate thesis film, have 3 projects to online, and 5 treatments to develop into short screenplays, not to mention that a friend of mine's band is trying to get me to cut together a music video for them before I finish any of this stuff.

I was willing to help you out with this because it's something I've considered doing myself, and since you were being nice about everything I was willing to work some extra long nights to do this quickly.  Now that your true colors have shown through, I'm not doing it for you.

I may do it for myself, and if that happens I'll send you a PM, but I'm not going to overwork myself for you.  If I do it, it won't be until Christmas, and you probably won't hear about it until it's done.

Besides, if you really wanted to get this done, you could take the time to learn the software necessary to do it instead of trying to get someone else to do it for you.  Hell, if you work in film (as you claim), I don't see why you seem to think all this is beyond you.

I could do it, but it'd end up being 2.0 stereo in the end.

 Why the loss of 5.1?

I work in Avid Media Composer (film editing student), and it can't do 5.1.

I suppose I could split the 5.1 into 6 mono tracks and work with them that way, but then I'd have to figure out a way to recombine them into 5.1, and I don't know how to do that.  Plus, I'm on a Mac, which immediately makes it more difficult.

Oh, and I don't have the Purist Edition.

What are you waiting for? What are you are you looking forward to?
Time

The Doctor Who Christmas special.

The Futurama Christmas special.

The new season of Dexter (I know it started, but I haven't gotten to watch it yet).

The Walking Dead on AMC.

Fallout: New Vegas.

Harry Potter 7/8.

Tron: Legacy.

Batman 3 (yeah, I know, long ways off).

Actually developing my treatment for an adaptation of All You Zombies into a script (the only school-related thing I'm excited about this year).

The day when I finally get my last Doctor Who DVD from Netflix (I just returned The War Games, the Second Doctor's final serial, and I'm waiting for Spearhead from Space, the Third Doctor's first).
