I agree the back story had plenty of details that didnt need georges mindless tampering. not only did the original backstory already fit with the original trilogy, it was a more well written story.
and its kind of sad about georges lack of devotion to his own creation the same neglect like frankenstein and his monster. but a good example of dedication to effects is zathura, the director of zathura even said that too much CGI looks like a video game and it totally destroys the suspension of disbelief except for augmented effects and starfields probably 80% of the film was classic blue screen, green screen & models. even the exhaust from the rockets was real fire and all the monsters were made by jim hensons creature shop, (a place that george has forsaken, with all of his crappy CG aliens). this guy was dedicated to making a good film and his choice on how to execute the effects benifited the film. in all honesty I think george just has this "alright lets get it overwith attitude" that and the fact that he knows it'll make money. I was fortunate enough to get scans of the definitive edition laser discs in letterbox and pre-special editions really are that much better.

it all basically comes down to the fact that lucas never shouldve tinkered with his work in the first place. aside from this many things in the prequels really destroyed the sense of mystery that was originally there, and forcing his original films to adapt to the prequels is a good indication that the effort put into the prequels was nowhere near the level of the original trilogy. the whole concept of starwars was the cliffhanger style where you dont excactly know what led up to the moment. if they would woud've payed more attention to their scripts and screenwriting and if it actually meant anything more than money to lucas then none of the continuity errors wouldve ever occoured. nothing against Temuera Morrison but jango shouldve been made to sound like boba not the other way around. the same goes for the new discussion between vader and the emperor in ESB. its not so much of a problem that changes were made so much as it was so obvious. which none of the edits should have been made in the first place. but none of the CG in all 3 movies matches up with the original footage. the best example would be the number of shots in ANH. if they were going to make changes they shouldve went out of their way to make absolutely sure that the new effects shots would match the old ones. a first step would be to not use cgi but instead use motion control like they did in the first place.
