I was confused also by Vader one minute being on cloud city then on board his stardestroyer the next. I never could work it out ...... unless it has something to do with his mention of bringing his shuttle.

There was a short scene in the Original version of the movie where he simply says, "Bring me my shuttle". However, i like the SE version of it better. I think it makes more sense that way.
POTD!

It works on so many levels.

My Top 10 Reasons ROTJ sucks

The argument is about claiming RoTJ is the worst of 6 movies without explaining how it is the worst of 6 movies.

Yeah, I don't think a bullet list does it.  Movies are more than the sum of their parts.  What matters is how the whole thing comes together.  ROTJ has it's share of flaws, and was burdened by following up on the excellent SW and ESB but overall I think it's a fine film.

My Top 10 Reasons ROTJ sucks
Time

Pretty good writeup and I agree with a lot, even if I don't think some are that detrimental.

6. KILL LANDO - have to disagree big time.  Lando's cool, while Han was cardboard in ROTJ by comparison...

3. HARRISON FORD - I know people would be outraged etc., if they killed off Han but I agree he phoned it in.

The biggest fail in ROTJ imo is Leia being Luke's sister.  This is the beginning of the end, the seed from where the PT snowballed into ever increasing "connections" that stretch logic and become ludicrous.  It's awkwardly handled by all the characters dealing with it.  The whole "point of view" dialogue sucked to begin with, and then they had to add this to it.  ugh.

Han dies, Leia is distraught but then perhaps hooks up with Luke.  Lando becomes the new "Han", he already knew the Falcon and Chewie.

Just now need to find the other "last hope" mentioned in ESB, or maybe just let that go.

What was the "fatal flaw" of the Prequels if you think they sucked? (aka. Let's take a break from hating on the blu-rays)

redlettermedia, but don't forget http://www.chefelf.com/starwars/ :)

For me, the prequels simply didn't live up to what Obiwan described, quite eloquently in Star Wars, when talking with Luke. The way he got misty-eyed about the past was quite different than what the PTs portrayed. Instead of some enlightened period, we got Jar Jar stepping in shit, pretentious Jedi, and politics as usual.

The devil's in the details. For example, there was a poetry with Luke cutting off Vader's hand in ROTJ, seeing it was mechanical, and it dawning on him that he was in danger of turning into the same as he contemplated his own mechanical hand. In the PT, Vader got his hand and legs cut off, and left to burn and die a painful slow death by Kenobi. It just crapped on that ROTJ moment, and showed Kenobi to be a sadistic asshole to boot.

The other is this "backstory" crap. Why is everyone involved already? Chewie, R2D2, C3PO, Boba/Jango Fett, and Jabba did NOT need to be there. Doing that just shriunk the SW universe down rather than expand it. But then again, the PT is nothing without endless references to the OT.

The PTs just destroyed whatever images the OT established about that time period.

RedLetterMedia's Revenge of Nadine [TPM 108 pg Resp. [RotS Review+RotS Preview+ST'09 Reveiw+Next Review Teaser+2002 Interview+AotC OutTakes+Noooooo! Doc.+SW Examiner Rebuttal+AotC Review+TPM Review]
Time

I enjoyed the ST reviews he did, and when TPM was posted, I couldn't help but think he would rip it to shreds with the same level of insight and humor.

My personal favorite parts are the comparisons of the opening scenes (beginning of part 2), where he explains exactly why the original opening was so memorable and iconic, while showing why TPM derailed the moment it left the station, and the comparisons of the light saber duels (2nd half of part 6), where it goes beyond the duels and really sums up the fundamental differences in priorities.

The most telling thing to me when watching the review is when, after seeing a bunch of TPM footage, OT scenes are interspersed in...the difference is jarring and it really makes TPM look vapid and generic.

Can't wait for the ATOC review!

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time
Hi. I'm slowly getting the three laserdisc rips, only have SW now, but I was shocked, after having watched the SEs for some time, to see SW as what I remember in the theatre (or at least close to it).

After watching the laserdisc rip, the SE version started looking a whole lot worse. I do appreciate some FX updates, like dealing with matte lines as well as cleanup efforts. But wholesale replacement of scenes just really bugs me. In my view is a slap in the face to the creative teams originally responsible for what were then cutting edge effects, and there wasn't a thing wrong with the scenes...I mean ticket sales didn't plummet because there was a missing ywing during a scene change or something like that. And in the theatre, in 77, the audience cheered when the Death Star blew up, they didn't go "boo, that explosion doesn't have a shock wave!"... The scenes of the Stormtroopers at the pod crashsite and scenes of Mos Eisley were beautifully minimal, Kurosawa-ish (whether by intent or budget isn't relevant...they made them work) but filling them up with annoying CG crap killed that aesthetic. I could go on and on but I'll stop.
