The only slight problem you may have with using TROS footage is the costume change might be slightly jarring but it could work!

You could have the scene where Luke sneaks off to the Falcon past Rey and transition to him going to burn down the tree (would need to possibly include a reason why in his discussions with Rey earlier) and then have Yoda appear and have that scene play out. Then Luke sneaks on to the Falcon and has the scene with Artoo. Then it would be both his old master and an old friend bringing him back to the light?

Absolutely love this idea, as I am the same as you, love TFA, want it to end on a high note instead of what comes next. For a proof of concept, I think this is great, the only complaint I would have is the music transitioning between some of the scenes and the muffled sound hiding Luke’s ‘go away!’ line. But I’m sure that will be fixed in no time. Looking forward to seeing this finished.
