For those doubting that GL had the whole saga planned out in detail while making IV
Time

You guys should really check out the original script to The Empire Strikes Back. It pretty much disproves the whole “planned out in advance” thing, and you can tell that they had planned for the story to go in a different direction. Most importantly the big twist is not there. It was a fun read though, I enjoyed it.

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread
Time

Yea, me too. I’m pretty sure the last time we saw a live action RA-7 was in A New Hope. I am really happy to see that droid again! Also, I just wanted to point out that the costume is expensive as hell because of the chrome platings. For reference, I had a Daft Punk helmet chromed and it ended up costing me $350. Just imagine how much it would cost to chrome a full-body suit! I’m glad to see that they are putting a lot of money and effort into costumes for extras. It really adds realism to the movie and it’s cool to see that they are doing this.

For the overlook shot, I stood at the edge of the parking lot. I used the hills at the bottom right for reference. Matching this shot was pretty easy because I printed out a picture of the shot and brought it along with me. For the scene with the Sandcrawler, there are multiple places that the scene could have been shot because the hills are so far off in the distance. I’m sure if you walked around enough you would be able to find the exact hill they walked up. Another possibility is that they may have placed the camera on the ground to make the hill appear larger. For my picture, I just put my model on top of the hill behind the viewing area for the R2-D2 canyon. I was losing the lighting conditions and people were leaving, so I just rushed to take the picture. For the shot in the movie, I think they had the camera further off to the right judging off of the mountains in the distance. You definitely were able to capture the scene better than I was able to!

Here is the hill I walked up to take my picture of the Sandcrawler:

I think that you were closer to the actual location because the hills have rougher terrain compared to mine. Also keep in mind that it has been around 40 years (wow that surprised me) since the scene was shot so the landscape may have changed a bit.

Yoda and Palpatine NEVER should have been given lightsabers.
Time

I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to disagree with you guys on the issue with Palpatine’s lightsaber. Although it does seem weird that he would need one, I think it really adds to his character and makes him more menacing. When you look at him, you would think that he is a feeble old man that does not have much skill in combat, but then he takes out his lightsaber and it suddenly makes him seem like a much bigger threat. Yoda follows the mindset of not using his powers for attack, but Palpatine seems like the kind of person who would do the opposite. There are many situations I could imagine him using his saber, especially when he gets confronted by Mace Windu and the other Jedi.

With Yoda on the other hand, I totally agree with you.

Here are my pictures! The perspective is off on a few of them because I was unable to screen-match them while I was there. I also loved the color correction on your pics, so I tried on a few of mine!

Shot with my Sandcrawler model in front of the mountains (It was really hard to position my model, so I’m pretty sure the scene was shot, and then a picture of the model was placed over it in the actual film)

Question About Music Removal
Time

So, I am working on a few projects, and I have come to a stage where I have to remove the music from a few scenes in the OT. I have the soundtracks from all of the films. I have looked at a few tutorials on removing music using Audacity, but none of my attempts have been that successful. Does anyone here know of any reliable program/method I can use to pull this off?

Star Wars The Force Awakens: 1986 Edition - I need help!
Time

I am really looking foreword to seeing what this project will look like when it’s done! Here are most of my ideas:

•Use original Lucasfilm logo

•Make opening crawl less “polished”

•Restore “Finn will be fine” and “Kylo finds the Falcon” scenes

•Snoke should be a person with makeup/prosthetics (like the original Emperor from TESB)

•Planet explosions should be redone

•Lightsaber + laser effects should be redone to simulate a hand animated style

•Elaborate shots should be simplified.
Examples: Falcon chase on Jakku, Maz’s Castle falling apart, Air battles, exc.

•Simplify holograms (if possible)

•Remove Rey’s “stop holding my hand” line

•Add a “choppy” effect to CGI creatures to simulate stop-motion

•Add subtle errors to ship battles (matte lines + perspective issues)

Is there anything that you actually like about the prequels?
Time

I think they did a good job creating the planets in the prequels. They had some pretty creative ideas overall. The trees on Kashyyyk were really cool, I liked the rock formations on Geonosis, and the cities inside the sinkholes on Utapau was neat. I also think they did a good job making Tatooine still feel like the same planet from A New Hope. Another thing I really liked was the soundscape of Courisant. The constant ambience of the ship flying past sounded really cool and it made the location feel realistic.
