Long time, no update, but work is always progressing. I’m trying out a fancy new program and trying to isolate some vocals. Here’s Leia tending to Luke, with all audio noise and Kersh being muted.

A bit of an improvment to say the least. Hopefully this process can be used all over the place to clean up the rest of the raw on-set audio.

Most of the cut is picture locked, with myself and RogueLeader doing some audio work on it now.

No new updates with this project really, still chipping away at things. Here’s a rough cut of a section from Hoth. A lot of new stuff is in here, but be warned that a lot of audio and video work needs to be done.

Exciting to see some of this unseen stuff! I’ve only watched episode 1/2 so far, but it’s great seeing this footage. They finally showed off a cut of the trench run with the Dam Busters footage too!

Could imagine that during the production someone may have had this idea and shoot some test scenes for this, before abandoning the concept.

There weren’t many test shoots for the OT, and if they were, they were for puppets, or VFX, or something they knew they needed to get right on set, like Yoda, Jabba, the Rancor, Lightsabers, droids, or costume tests. These wouldn’t be done on finished sets, or with dressed actors, but to see how the mechanics of a creature, make-up or mechanism works on camera. They were usually pretty meticulous about planning ahead of time, and wouldn’t waste time/money/effort to shoot something like an AT-AT full of stormtroopers (?) just to abandon it.

Once again, there is no script, storyboard, photographic, video or proof of any kind to suggest that such a sequence would of been shot or test shot or anything.

In the future, I implore you to look at tbone’s Star Wars Universe of Cut Scenes, as it is by far the most comprehensive archive of articles on deleted scenes in Ep1-6. Everything mentioned that had been cut is backed up by various sources and is extremely detailed.

Can’t remember ever reading anything about it, but if they built it, i’d guess they would have used it at least for some test sequences.

There are probably some alternate line deliveries, or different pieces of dialogue that suggest other things. Han saying “That bounty hunter we ran into on Ord Mantell changed my mind” was cut, which implies another adventure they had before ESB, for example.
It is likely however, that we generally know about just about everything that was cut, and that there aren’t any big subplots, sequences or scenes that have been cut out or kept under wraps.
People will debate forever still though that Luke missed the first time during their chasm swing, or Leia spat on Tarkin, or Vader’s TIE exploded, or the Biggs scenes were in there from the start. It’s fun to think about, but it’ll never be proven in anyway.

If there was something shot that we didn’t know about, it wouldn’t be big scenes, it would be little things. 2nd unit stuff like the Battle of Endor pilots, or extra footage of action scenes, inserts or alternate angles of scenes, or original versions of scenes later reshot.
At this stage, with what we know about the OT, in my opinion, there is very little deleted material we don’t know about, and certainly not a wedding scene. If there was any big scenes that haven’t seen the light of day, we would certainly know of it, due to interviews, storyboards, call sheets, script drafts, novelisations, comics, storybooks, on-set footage, or just anything.

As someone who loves deleted scenes, and specifically Star Wars deleted scenes, there is no deleted wedding scene.

I’ve read several drafts of ROTJ, story treatments and development notes, and books upon books of making-of material. I’ve looked at call sheets, photos, raw footage, dallies, pre-vis, concept art, animatics and anything and everything related to deleted scenes.
I can safely say there was never any wedding scene shot or shown anywhere in the world on any international TV station, or early showing, or uncle’s VHS tape, or George’s garage.
Potentially this was some idea that was floated in early production, or during the late 70s with George planning out his larger 9-15 film saga, but there is no evidence to support this.
Most drafts end on Endor/Had Abbadon, celebrating the Empire’s defeat, with no reference to Han/Leia planning to get hitched.

There wasn’t even a wedding mentioned until 93 with the Prophets of the Dark Side novel. The new canon now says they snuck away on Endor to get married, but that wasn’t until 2017, in Aftermath: Life Debt.

Basically, there is no wedding scene that was scripted, storyboarded or shot in any shape or form.

There are a lot of early internet rumours on that linked page, always fun to read mid-90s myths.

“A friend of mine was just telling me about the Leia-Vader torture scene. She said that she was reading an interview with Carrie Fisher, and in the article she described the scene as the most awful day of filming on the set. She described the scene in very much the same way it was portrayed in the [NPR] radio drama. She described being hung upside down while they filmed her being tortured until she eventually passed out. She then noted how pissed she was when she saw that it had been cut from the movie”

I’m gonna definitely say no to both claims here. This is the first I’m hearing of it and there has never been any mention of any scene in anything I’ve ever read, watched or listened to.

He already did. ESB:R was originally made and released at 720p, but he used Topaz to upscale it to 1080p.

From my knowledge, I thought that Ady used the 2004 DVD Release of ESB for the Revisited Edit, not the 2011 Blu-Ray.

It’s mostly sound related stuff that needs work. The whole Wampa attack and Yoda’s test scenes are silent right now so they’ll need ground up work.
The Lobot scene hasn’t yet been integrated, but that’s on the list.
I think I may leave out Veer’s death, as it’s hard to work with.

If you look closely enough, Mark Hamill is carrying a prop that looks closely like a lightsaber, possibly a reference to his role in Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), of which was filmed around the same time.

Looking at the clips you have, They seem to need very thorough cleaning. If you’d like, I can do a pretty good job cleaning these clips. If you’re up for it.

I appreciate the offer, but I have aimed to go for a little bit of a retro look to it. I still think the most recent 2019 BR, and even D+ project look far too clean and sterile.

I did do a pass on the raw deleted scenes off the 2011 disc, and doing an upscale and DNR pass to get rid of the digital noise and artifacts introduced by the modern encoding. Then introduced a new grain layer, using real 35mm film.

There’s a pretty high quality view of the X-Wing pilot suit here in this 1977 printing of the novelisation. Both front and back.

There must’ve been more efficant ways to find a reference for the costume. Maybe the toys, but I know how hard they were to get right after the film had come out.

I’m really leaning towards a lie for this one, it seems like a waste of time to sit through a 2 hour movie to take notes during the last 20 minutes. I mean it was the 70s though, maybe she just really liked sitting through it.

I really didn’t think it would work, but I saw the shot done in TMBTM’s War of the Stars II, and he did it pretty amazingly to match the GOUT.

The current cut of the film is at 2:16:01 (theatrical is 2:04:54), and does not yet include the Wampa Attack or Lobot Capture. I’m still working on the Wampa scene, and trying to wrap my head around the Lobot one.
A lot of the visuals are locked or close to being locked. Most visual work is purely transitions, or grading. The Wampa scene is going to be a lot of work with blaster bolts, Wampa arms and other small bits of work. Should be fun.
