It might be a bit extreme but we could drop the door the whole way down and cut his head and hand off (more Jedi related gore).

I think it's fine as it is, the poor beast could have fatal internal injuries with only minor external ones (it seems to have very thick skin) but mockups might help rule one way or the other.

Someone should do a mockup poster in the style of Jaws but with the door a killing poor starving Rancor (DOORS : The Revenge).

I'd do something about Boussh's dialogue, too. So lazy and limited. Must be one of those languages where every word has 40 meanings or something.

There's nothing lazy about Boussh's dialogue. I would say it's actually had more thought put into it that the others. It would have been easy to put together some foreign sounding dialect (using some unusual-sounding real Earth language like with the Ewoks) but they decided to have a complex dialect where context and stress is everything.

I think the way Boussh speaks is a very strong creative choice.

It depends how you look at it.

Some people (like me) love Garrindan's quirky and very alien vocal style in ANH, other people think the undeniable comedic effect spoils the mood.

Same with Boussh.

There is no reason why Boussh couldn't speak in noises so high pitched that only Threepio and Boussh could hear them so we would only have Threepio's word for it that he actually said anything and that would make no sense to the viewer (or rather the listener).

My personal take is that having a four word vocabulary is justifyable in terms of culture but it might sit better with the audience if it was changed to something that sounds like it has more variety.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

It's a mixed blessing in some ways.

When Ady bids farewell to Episode V he will have (as does anyone who wants to play with ROTJ) a lovely list of ideas to add to his own from day one.

As ROTJ:R draws to it's completion date the various prequel threads will also break up into episode specific threads and the process will happen all over again.

I hope that when the dust settles the ideas that Ady doesn't want to use get picked up by other talented people for alternate versions.

It must be a bit like planning a journey.

There is a nice glossy guide book of suggested places to visit, places you have always wanted to go to and maybe a few places you'll just wander into while finding your way around.

I could imagine that as helpful as all our input is, it must be frightening sometimes to look at some of these ideas and trying to figure out which ones are fun but impossible and which ones look possible but are so much hard work they might as well be impossible and trying to bridge the gap between increasing expectation and a family life.

Discussion: Which Star Wars Kenner mini-rig should be realised in the movies.
Time

There's a nice item here about the origins of the mini-rigs:

http://theswca.com/images-speci/mini-rigs/mini-rigs.htm

Basically it started with bored workers at Kenner playing in the spare parts bin, but then they thought it would be a good idea to make small vehicles that children could buy with their pocket money as the larger ones were rather pricey.

None of the designs actually appeared in the films though sometimes you get items like the Imperial Tripod gun being classed as a mini-rig because it was in the same price range so in a sense they were (with Splinter Of The Mind's Eye and the Marvel Comics) the beginning of the EU.

I wish we could have a bit more ground troop action like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIWtNYp-IXQ

Yeah the dude who made that is awesome - his Battle of Endor (space battle) is also amazing, as is his other work.

need to get a hold of this guy and see if he can lend us a hand in jedi revisited.

He is already working with me on ESB:R :)

Yay! hopefully that means we'll get realistic explosions in ROTJ:R too, the guy knows his onions.

Fair enough but of all the animals in all the galaxy it seemed a bit convenient that Jabba collected a head Lucas had already made for the previous film.

Lets insert a Gungan head, lol :D

Better still (apparently this git is from Endor how many inhabited worlds are there in the Star Wars universe....9?):

Maybe it was some clever visual metaphor, Han being frozen in the last film being flanked by two creatures from the ice planet from the last film.

Nice job there Angel at making the Rancor more scary, those claws look a lot sharper in that light.

Cute as the Tauntaun trophy is it does represent so much of what is wrong about ROTJ, sticking stuff in because they have paid for it already makes sense in terms of saving money but if Hoth was meant to be the middle of nowhere how the hell did that head get there.

It makes the Star Wars universe a much smaller place and kind of takes you out of the moment and yes I did notice it when I was 13 because I had been inspecting every publicity photograph I could get my hands on for months before the film came out.

The same with bloody medical droids in the briefing room.

Boba Fett appearing in some capacity in the film pales in terms of how those little things grate for me (and they are easier to remove too).

It looks like a joke photoshop job (like sticking an Alien skull in Predator 2).

As for the Rancor and I'm probably talking out of my....erm....chair here but would it be possible to remove all the minature elements from the live action and double the frame amount by inbetweening slight changes between duplicate frames and then speeding the footage up to give the footage more life and then recombining it?

The shots with the giant hand and the model together still lack a certain weight and depth though the DVD did go a long way to improving things.

They fit the look of the robes but it doesn't make sense. The Trade Federation were just a means to an end and when that end was achieved Vader killed their leaders and I assume Palpatine took charge of their assets.

If the Neimodians were to be on any side it would possibly be with the Rebels (if they would have them).

If they served the Emperor in any capacity it would be in chains rather than robes of state.

Nice mockup though.

You know, I never thought about it until the recent mock-ups - are those "bridges" supposed to be bridges or supports for the inner elevator tube inside the tower shaft? I guess that's the problem with the shaft around the elevator being unmolested by any sort of gantryway looking things in that without anything connecting the inner tube with the outer tower structure, it wouldn't be very stable.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post a few pages back (its funny how ideas you bring up are brought back up again by other posters), it would be kinda cool to see Palps falling down Mola Ram style, though I have no idea how one could do it other than taking the Mola Ram scene or the Gandalf TWO TOWERS entrance scene and modifying them appropriately.

Or we could just leave it as is.. >:)

As supports they are just as useless as they are if they are bridges, perhaps someone should try replacing the bridges with some other form of support but we don't know what the ring (which contains the walkway Luke defeats Vader on) is made of, it might act as a giant clamp holding the lift shaft in place.

The Star Wars universe is full of bizarre architecture which would defy current engineering skills (how does Cloud City stay up?) but it might look more stable with a bit of support.

Girder Supports

My admittedly far from perfect mockup of Palpy falling backward was just a hand drawn (and it shows) silhouette with a few inserts from commercially available models (the face, the clasp, the hand).

If someone made a good model and filmed it either under water or on a strong support and virtually panned away from it to infinity I'd imagine the effect could be quite convincing. Palpatine's face make up is so cartoonish that a blurry model falling (maybe kicking too) could be made to look rather like the old guy.

The Mola Ram shot was terrible by the way (one of the most embarrassing special effects in ILM's portfolio). The Indiana Jones films need the same sort of make over that Ady is doing with Star Wars (not so much Raiders which is near perfect but all the others and especially TOD).

Angel, I can't imagine Palpatine laughing his way to death.

He is evil not insane (though Lucas himself seemed to forget this in the later stages of ROTS) and would see death as a defeat not a transition to a higher realm of existance (like Obi-Wan).
