Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Lucas is (as far as someone can be while still breathing) legendary.

He is behind two of the most popular film series ever. Started what would become Pixar, gave Harrison his career break, Lucasarts innovated so much in the early days that you still see games with functions first introduced by them. ILM has it's fingerprints over 80's 90's and 00's cinema like no other FX house. The editing technology that fan editors and independent film makers use pretty much began with Lucas.

Even when he cocks up it adds to the Legend that he is.

The Red Tails interview with Oprah is pure 'silly' Lucas.

He made three good movies.

THX 1138, American Graffiti and Star Wars.

He screwed them up afterwards but the world would be a lesser place without them.

Sorry, I don't buy A. A tangent isn't on-topic just because it's connected to the topic by definition of being a tanget. He might has well have started talking about Anaheim's baseball team and the terrible contracts they signed Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols to.

Besides, I'm pretty much the off-topic authority here. ;-)

Unlike Garrett Gilchrist's 'warez' (self recobbled or stolen) you don't have to buy anything.

The guy is essentially asking Ady, "Y U No do what what Gilchrist did?" RE beta versions (not ripping off other people's work as we know Ady is too nice a chap for that)

Hey Adywan, Is there any chance of getting a "Beta/Early" Release copy of ESB Revisited before Star Wars Celebration Anaheim?

If you want to see a "work in progress" for an obsessive fan-edit, check out The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut. There have been 4 major releases of that, and on top of that a few demo/workprint/buggy versions. It's lots of fun trying to track down the ONE you want. And of course, Mark 5 is going to be amazing, with a new HD transfer ...

Slightly off-topic, but I'm wondering when Adywan is going to tackle the Star Wars Christmas Special. That's in dire need of restoration, and with Ep VII teasers running around, it's a really important element of the canon that a lot of people forget.

Why am I reading about The Thief and the Cobbler on a Star Wars site, in a Star Wars forum, in a Star Wars thread? And apparently that wasn't even the "slightly off-topic" part!

ERROR

ERROR

DOES NOT COMPUTE

SYSTEM SHUTDOWN

A) Because the chap is talking about the possible beta releases of Star Wars Ep V Revisited edition by Adywan in the thread related to that project.

B) He isn't aware of the 'history' between the creator of the The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut on these forums and with the various contributors on here he attempted to gain cash from illegally selling their work.

Probably :-D

Even a neophyte fan editor could do a better job editing Williams' score than was done here.

You rang?

Took me literally 5 minutes, and I consider it sloppy and rushed. How the hell the official version got okayed though is utterly beyond me.

That is better but it's still an ending rather than an opening.

I'd imagine if someone took the open blasts of "The Throne Room" (designed to match the beginning of a triumphant scene) and truncated them you'd get something closer to the effect of the Fox fanfare.

Info: I can do a fan restoration / preservation / edit of any film you want...

I had another idea how to spend your fortune.

You could redub the Godfather movies with Marx Bros dialogue.

Allocate a Marx brother to each of the major gangster brothers, make the Stooges and the Crazy Gang into rival mobster families.

Have W.C.Fields for the voice of Don Corleone and Saturday Night Live comedians as the newer gangsters in Godfather 3.

Fredo would have to be Zeppo.

You could throw in Bob Hope and Bing as cops. It would be a hoot.

Do we have to explain that the word rape means more than forced sex to you again Frink?

It means spoiled, ruined, contaminated "rape of the forest etc". The sexual aspect is just one use of a perfectly valid word.

The analogy he uses is sound albeit arch.

One clings on to a happy memory while repeatedly being insulted and disrespected by the provider of that happier time.

It's an analogy not an exact parallel.

If you want to keep defending things like this, I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you.

That's the spirit x

Bizarre as it may initially sound the LucasNoise droning sound works rather well as a build up to the first brassy blasts of the main theme.

Maybe that with a new Lucasfilm logo would do the necessary.

If all these prohibitions on metaphor were enforceable nobody would be able to express an opinion on any subject. Even important ones like pizza toppings.

The new fanfare is bloody awful. What idiot thought that a truncated final few notes from a well known film would serve as an opening to a series?

It's like replacing the organ fanfare to Buffy the Vampire Slayer with half a random scream or a bit of a Sarah Michelle Gellar orgasm/ acrobatic sound from season 3.

The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread
Time

Last night I watched the new Thunderbirds series Thunderbirds Are Go!.

It's obviously paced for the attention spans executives assume children have these days and suffers from having it's practical effects overwhelmed by the CGI elements but that aside they basically did my idea for what to do with the defector shield dish in ROTJ.

In the episode it's a solar collector but they snap the dish off the tower with explosives and it slides downhill.

In my mind the dish sliding was sort of like the Enterprise dish crash in Star Trek Generations but other than it's pretty close.

I would then place the scene where Han is bandaging up Leia's arm inside the fallen dish.

Makes more sense than blowing up miles of forest.
