Episode III: Revenge of the Ridiculousness
Time

I thought it might be fun to have Palpatine heckled as he announced the formation of the Empire.

Unfortunately the Utubez have so many clips of heckler put downs that decent heckles are hard to find.

The only famous one I can think of is the infamous Bob Dylan "Judas" heckle but it's not exactly applicable.

Maybe you youngsters can remember some useable real or fictional heckling?

Fan Edits getting "trolled" by new kids on the block
Time

It's probably not doing these forums much good recycling the ancient content (though the most recent posts are 2014) of those forums but I hadn't read it before.

To summerise they spend most of the time repeatedly calling Ady rude names for their amusement which becomes tired very quickly. Once in a while someone says something positive which is quickly ignored for more insult space.

The instigator reveals a PM where Ady apologises for his part of the argument siting the stress of the illness and death of his parents for his reaction side by side with his reply where he says it's all water under the bridge. Next few posts and they are mocking the death of his parents.

Classy.

On the whole there is a lack of comprehension of the idea behind his edit and fan-edits in general.

For me the most illustrative part of their discussion was :

Griddlemarks wrote: Jesus. Did he f@cking make the lizard have three eyes? Why?

Why did George put a mask on an elephant and call it a Bantha?

Why did Kersh have a molded piece of rubber sit on Frank Oz's hand?

Why did ILM paint laser bolts onto the screen whenever a blaster fired (well mostly, they did miss a few)?

It's an alien creature. In a non-profit, fan made alternative edit, it's totally justified to make a terrestrial lizard look more alien.

Think it through guys it's not that difficult.

In the official release it's irksome that you don't get a choice of which version you pay cash for.

MY REACTION TO STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS EPISODE VII OFFICIAL TEASER TRAILER #2!
Time

I've noticed we have a number of potentially spoiler policy bending/breaking threads like these.

It might make sense to merge them with the spoiler sequel thread and maybe make the spin-off thread a spoiler thread and merge any new trailers etc with that.

Is there a way of making the spoiler policy thread flash, vibrate or shoot lasers if someone joins up here with carpet bombing in mind.

Can the forum software read thoughts yet?

The best analysis of the new trailer you'll ever see
Time

This thread should really be merged with the spoiler thread.

Someone might accidentally click the link while shaving.

I wish people would post non-flash versions of their videos on youtube.

I don't have flash on my laptop so to watch these things I have to switch to another machine.

That all said the video is hilarious and well worth watching.

Plenty of material for Frink to play with.

Implied starting date of the Empire from OT dialogue
Time

The way I see it the time line for the start of the Empire is sort of right in the PT.

It's long ago enough for Luke to have no memory of a world without it but near enough for his Uncle's generation to take sides.

It's established enough to keep most of the Galaxy under it's thrall but still has a large rebellion causing problems.

What the PT got wrong was the length of time it took for the Republic to fold.

Ben talks of Clone Wars (plural) of Vader helping the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi, not turning up at their HQ and killing the surprising few that were in residence leaving the Clone Troopers (who are clearly much better shots than their Storm Trooper replacements) to do most of the killing. All this before the formation of the Empire.

To be more accurate the first Clone War should have been shown in TPM, leading to a second when Anakin was old enough to participate both as a Jedi and as a Cyborg assassin.

I proposed a fan edit reason for Luke's comments about Dagobah...he was born there :

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

People forget how much more polished the look of ESB was over Star Wars and likewise how ROTJ was more pished than either of the previous two.

While I'll agree about ESB looking more polished than ANH, ROTJ was if anything less polished than ANH.

In fact I'd go as far as saying it looked half finished in places and thrown together from left overs in others.

ROTJ is a far more dated piece of work than either of the first two films, even factoring the sideburns.

Get rid of Off-Topic (in it's current form)
Time

I've made my suggestion to a solution to a problem diagnosed by others.

It could work.

Indeed if the 'moderated off-topic' was treated was a fresh new board and the old off topic continued unmoderated the new board would be easier to moderate because all the content there would be new and all the years of old content would remain unmoderated.

If it were bound by the same rules as the rest of the boards, people posting there would know exactly were the stood before posting there.

In my personal opinion it's the best of both worlds.

There is a thread on the off-topic page suggesting some form of light moderation for that board. This is a structural suggestion that might address some the concerns on that thread which could possibly be implemented during the forum migration.

The current pre-migration set up has a board for general chat which has only the unmoderated off-topic section in it (perhaps Jay has plans to adjust this during the migration).

I suggest that what is currently off-topic be split into two boards.

One, largely unmoderated for posting non-serious topics or topics where the originator of the thread is aware of the unmoderated nature of the board and doesn't mind the inevitable larks and silliness.

The other for topics where the originator is sensitive enough to the subject to request intervention should the topic be bogged down with pictures of skyscrapers, general rudeness and irreverence.

That way those who have a comfort zone could stay within it and not be subject to or the cause of friction with those who don't.

I'd also suggest a merge of the Feature Requests and Suggestions sections as they are essentially the same thing.
