Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

One possibility that hasn't been entertained much is the First Order could be the former Rebels (they won the war and got all the Imperial kit which they have continued to finesse).

And the Resistance are the remains of the Empire.

They were thoroughly defeated and have turned to using the tools of their conquerors (X-Wings etc).

Not saying this is what's happening at all just pushing it as another serving suggestion.

The Republic had trooper armour like the Imperials so the Alliance in displacing the Imperials they may have reverted back to controlling the Galaxy with white plastic ground troops.

Maybe the price of victory was to become the enemy.

I know there is a history between Ady and Angel/Vaderios that need not be gone back over here but some of his mock-ups where the Falcon interior from ANH was given the ivory colours of the ESB/ROTJ set and where Threepio's eye lights were turned up in ROTJ to match those seen in ANH and ESB helped unify the look of the trilogy a great deal in my view.

I'm not sure how doable those things were to do in motion though.

The War of the Stars Part II - The Future in Motion (Released)
Time

I don't know if seeing this flagged up again in the forums subconsciously prompted it or not but I saw this again today.

It really is amazing how different a film (from films) you managed to make this.

I was thinking both parts could be edited into a television mini-series cut (Salem's Lot, Winds of War etc) of maybe four episodes.

It might make it easier to digest all the fun to be had in both edits and allow for some fun designing television style titles and figuring out where the ad break act stops would go.

It says some thing when even after seeing it a couple of times Yoda landing still made me ALOL.

Thanks again for making this happen.

Lando was looking out for the entire population of Cloud City.

If he had called the evacuation too early there would have been a blood bath, if he had warned Han there would have been a blood bath. He tried to negotiate with a Sith Lord.

This never goes well.

Leia should have known this but her emotions got the better of her.

In this regard having her Vader's daughter makes perfect sense in retrospect, much more so than Luke being his son :

I liked it too but I still prefer to think of Dooku not actually being a Sith Lord but rather a Jedi that knows the reality of the situation but isn't believed so is trying to do something about it on his own and in the process being manipulated into aiding Palpatine.

It's makes him into a more noble and tragic figure of pathos.

A bit of a Cassandra if Star Wars is going to play on myth.

I would have him appear as a hologram in TPM assessing a similar situation to the Naboo crisis on one of the other later Separatist worlds opening the scope so it wasn't an isolated case.

I'd have plead with the council to send more people with Qui-Gon and have him hanging around outside his funeral with bitter look on his face.

Not a fan these inquisitor chaps myself.

Either get off the can or Sith that's what I say :-D

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Red Leader doesn't use the Force.

He is shot in exactly the place he mentions off screen and is shot again on screen and then crashes into a unconvincing landscape of grey painted plastic tubs.

You are also posting this in the ESB:R thread. This is not the thread you are looking for.

I think you are over-exaggerating a tad.

It's a Star Wars film so a baton passing motif isn't universe shrinkage it's an object in the fictional universe occupying more than one position in time.

This happens in the real universe.

People buy or come to own objects owned by famous people only for the new owner to also be famous.

As it stands the ship is in the PT only with blue paint scheme and in the background serving no other service than fan service to Easter egg hunters.

No more superficial than a Tomb ?:-D

Star Wars isn't reality. It's fable and ripe with symbolism.

The notion of a significant object starting out as a shining royal yacht, changing form and becoming a pirate ship but still fighting the good fight is in-keeping with that milieu in my view, though clearly not in yours.

The Falcon isn't just a ship. She's as much a character as the Tardis or the Enterprise or Trigger.

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *
Time

Look at it this way.

There were numerous episodes of the radio series, issues of the early Marvel comics etc where not a single Force user appeared.

They still felt like Star Wars though.

In many ways the Jedi are more conspicuous by their absence and true to their initial description by Ben, in the premise of this film, than they actually were in person during the whole of the PT.

The lack of Jedi is the reason why the Rebels need to try fight even harder against the seemingly undefeatable Empire.

While having Darth Vader building See-throughpio was daft, and having Boba Fett's dad being the clone template was daft, I don't think having a single ship appearing through the saga, changing shape and function as it changes hands is universe shrinkage.

Look at a fine film like The Yellow Rolls-Royce (1964) for inspiration.

It actually expanded the world the story was in by having the single object being the needle by which the generation spanning narrative is sewn.

Similarly Black Beauty (1946) has many stories linked by one horse being passed to different owners. Showing a snap shot of history both urban and rural.

It's pure fan service of that there is no denying but fan-service of a much higher calibre .

You could use it to fix one of the most annoying things about TPM with it too.

The royal yacht could have it's decorative plating removed to be sold to release Anakin's mother from slavery so while she can't be with her son she is no longer property.

That way the evolution of the ship becomes part of the story.

In ROTS the cargo arms could be installed finally defining the shape as being the one we will recognise later but it still has enough luxury to it to appeal to a buyer like Lando.

Come the next film it's had several owners and looks very different.

Come the sequels it's had a few more modifications.

The real universe as we see it isn't encountering new things all the time.

We only see a small portion of the things available to be seen in one lifetime so a fictional universe should be allowed a degree of that (as with R2 and C3P0 and in this case the Falcon... maybe).

Implied starting date of the Empire from OT dialogue
Time

I assumed from the beginning that Tarkin was ethically loyal to ruling order of the day.

I never saw him as an arch-villain but more a pragmatic military leader who saw ruthlessness as necessary to insure order and stability.

He thinks he is doing the right thing.

I assume he would have acted in a simular manner during the last days of the Republic which even pre-PT seemed to be a time of chaos and unrest.
