I will once again bore you all to death with my preferred sequence of events.

In ANH there is constant reference to the Rebel Hidden Base and the plans so it makes sense that the final destination of the film is Yavin and the use of the plans to destroy the Death Star. The characters all follow a path to that single destination which results in an action packed end sequence.

I would have Padme on Coruscant representing her people with representative Binks and trying to prevent an invasion diplomatically at the beginning of the film. Have some transmission on the Queen's secret channel cut off and disputed as nonsense in the senate but supported by some Jedi (Dooku, Qui-Gon) with resistance (Maceinyourface Windu). She then heads off home and is shot down over Tatooine. They pick up Anakin after winning the parts to repair the ship and then rescue the significantly damaged planet by Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon landing on the droid command ship fighting droids and finally facing Maul in the reactor room. Obi-Wan shuts down the droid army or sends a full report to the senate and escapes before Anakin purposefully destroys the ship, everyone celebrates and they eat barbecued Jedi Master...

If you've stated this series of events before I must have somehow missed it. I love it, I think it'd be much better. The question is, is it possible?

I think it could be done but on the sort of intensive reworking level that Ady uses rather than just shuffling the existing scenes.

As I've said elsewhere when I watched the first trailer for TPM I assumed that the duel with Maul took place on a spaceship and that Padme telling everyone to get to their ships would take place in the same time that the earlier hanger scene took place. TPM (Naboo, Tatooine, Coruscant, Naboo) seems to go around in circles when it really needs to go in a straight line (for me Coruscant, Tatooine, Naboo).

As for Jar-Jar George made two big mistakes there. One the whole Stepin Fetchit thing which sort of makes me wonder if George has some sort of condition in that he let that and all the other ethnic tropes pass (cowardly sneak attack by slit eyed robot obsessed industrialists... from the guy who owes so much to Japanese culture that was weird).

The other was just making him a clown instead of giving his clumsy actions a story/character grounding. I would make him a full representative of his people so re-dubbing him to be eloquent and mannered but out of his depth when it comes to physical activity. Not many politicians would be graceful in a war zone (a fish out of water).

Having the Federation fleet vanish leaving one ship behind seemed weird too.

But this is clearly not the direction this edit is going so I'd continue talking about it over here.

Info Wanted: Specific TPM Edit Question/Suggestion
Time

I thought it would make more sense to stick the Maul fight on the ship at then end of the film and have the droids as an early obstacle to get to the "droid control power thing" than have a futuristic space power-station suddenly plop over the side of a royal palace with fighter hanger. Instead of all those empty bridges in the duel you could have had added peril of droids firing at the Jedi if it was on a ship but I obviously played with a different lego set to George.

Would you want to see Anakin or Obi Wan in the new trilogy, portrayed by their PT actors?

the whole reason I want him back is because I feel he genuinely deserves another shot at this role.

Friends, try for a moment to envision the inevitable scene that will take place (if this rumor is true) involving a spectral Hayden Christensen speaking to (or about) Adam Driver, saying something along the lines of "don't go down that path I traveled all those years ago." Are you recoiling in horror? Good. That is the correct response.

I don't really see how this scene could be a bad thing. If the writing is good enough any bad idea can be made good.

Well, my hope is that they will try to make good ideas great instead of trying to make bad ideas good...

Yeah, it's been known as EPISODE IV for as long as it's been known as A NEW HOPE.
There was nothing in 1977 to suggest that STAR WARS was a sequel to anything, but that changed in 1980...

In 1981-1998, it did say Episode IV in the crawl, but nobody thought "I missed I-III. Back to the video store to look for I."

As someone who took his younger cousin to the triple bill showing of the OT and showed older people the films on video I beg to differ.

I introduced a Russian couple to the films with TPM and they really wanted to see episode 2 and 3 (which hadn't been made yet) for some reason only to be confused by me leaping to Episode 4.

They liked Batman Forever too which confused me at the time.

For the record;  He only works in Rogue One.  Completely unnecessary in the ST.

Anakin would be Vader already though?

Maybe he could appear as a hologram (the design for the Death Star was around during the Clone War period) or he could appear under heavy makeup during one of those rare meditation chamber scenes.

I rather liked the bit in Shadows of the Empire (the novel) where Vader removes much of his armour and continues to try to use the Force to heal himself in vain.

Anchorhead said: For the record;  I've never seen him in anything, so I can't really speak to his chops.  However, through the years I've seen a few clips of his work in the Star Wars films and a few other films.

 He's good in Shattered Glass.

Then again, I think he's good in Star Wars, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Just one?  I'm thinking eight billion makes more sense.

Why "Ben"?

Anchorhead said:

Fortunately, Lucas sold the franchise before he could explain Ben's name.  You know, because Lucas is so clever with regard to names e.g., Sidious, Tyranus, Grievous.

Left to Lucas we may have eventually learned Ben's real name was Count Infectious, or Lord Contagious, or maybe Senator Atrocious.

I'm sure Lucasites will claim that the Dark Lord's moniker was meant to evoke the image of a Dark Father but we know the code was originally going to be words beginning with "in" but with the "in" taken out ergo Sidious but then he thought Darth Capacity and Darth Absentia sounded a bit fem.

So Maul.

I can just imagine Christopher Lee talking to his agent, "So his birth name is Duke Dooku?? What's his Sith Moniker Darth Diplodocus? *giggle* WHAT! You better be 5h1tt1ng me!"

[fill in the blank] Just Died!

Dr. Oliver Sacks also died yesterday.

I had a sort of reverso crush on him(as in I became fascinated with the idea of the chap before knowing what he looked like).

When all the to do about Awakenings (the film) was happening I read about the guy and he sounded quite exciting and the sort of person I would probably have had a crush on in his earlier years as well as being utterly brilliant and the ideal brain to know in his amazing ground breaking years.

And then I saw what he actually looked like back when he was the age I was when first reading about him :

Call me shallow if you wish but this guy had it all. Mind, Heart and easy on the eye... silly stuff I know.

But it's hard not to fall a bit in love with someone who faces terminal illness with such grace and eloquence.
