Info Wanted: Lord Of The Rings - Deleted Scenes Or Footage - for my edit?

I am certainly coming round to your way of thinking.

I still think it would have been more daring of PJ to stick with the original but I think you are right and that it might not have worked cinematically for a large number of people. In any case I have decided to go with a compromise. I’ve gone with what’s in the film (I have to really, as there isn’t enough footage for a viable alternative), but I have reduced the length of the cliff-hanging part so there isn’t another elongated moment of contrived tension that wasn’t there before! Again, that’s not me having a go at PJ, it’s just what I wanted to see… I can be quite picky sometimes, that’s why I’m editing the films!

They should be done in a couple of week’s time, I’m just unsure as to whether there would be interest from other folk in seeing them?

Cheers. That’s all I could find as well!

I remember, around the time the third film came out, reading that several Mt. Doom endings had been filmed, although I have no solid evidence to back up whether this actually happened. For one of the big things I’d love to change would be to have Gollum’s demise as it is in the book. I appreciate PJ wanting to make the ending a little more Hollywood cliff hanger-esque (quite literally), but I adore Tolkien’s ambiguous, even fatalistic, end.

If any extra footage does make the light of day then I’ll happily integrate it into the finished product but in the mean time I’ve made a start to the editing and am so far very happy with the progress.
